I love our library! They have a good variety for the size of the library, plus they are very helpful. They also get new stuff constantly.

It is in a nice new building that is shared with Albemarle County. There are county ESOL offices upstairs and the county warehouse downstairs. Northside has a vast selection of books and other materials. You can do everything from check out a book to check out an internet hotspot for school work. Have kids and want to go to the Virginia Discovery Museum? You can pick up free passes here. The same is true for Va State Parks. The State Park kit includes a backpack with educational activities for kids. Interested in sewing or embroidery? Northside has maker kits that can be checked out as well. One of the services that I use are their meeting rooms. You can check out meeting spaces for 2 hours at a time. They are enclosed spaces with up to 4 people. It has an exterior monitor for presentations with multiple inputs. Don't want to come inside, no worries... they have drive up window to pick up and drop off books. Don't want to do that either? They have a great digital library where you don't have to leave your couch. If you want it, Northside has it!

This Library is very cool!…read more This was my first time visiting this library and I was very impressed with how aesthetically pleasing it looks on the inside, how many breakout rooms there were, a gaming room, separated area's for children's play, teenagers, study space/working space, lounge space for older patrons with bigger lounge chairs, etc. I spent about 2 hours here with some children and they very much enjoyed the children's learning area. There were magnetic busy boards, busy games, wall games, magnetic dominos, puppets, magnetic people mix and match, and the books! While here, I noticed people of all ages, ethnicities and abilities enjoying the services of the library. It was very clean and I was impressed with the spread of variety of things for different groups. There were DnD groups renting out rooms, coders, puzzlers, arts and crafters, and much more. It was a very pleasant and safe experience, we will visit again.

That renovation/restoration took a long time, and it's now a lovely place to visit and learn about our 4th President and his wife Dolley Madison. In addition to the house, which acknowledges its part in running a plantation through the work of enslaved people, it has exhibits about slavery at Montpelier and archeological finds. The property also has lovely grounds with a beautiful garden that's filled with many colorful flowers in the spring. The visitor center offers a movie, and the house docents offer hour-long tours on the half hour. They also have picnic tables under shady trees to enjoy lunch. The views from Montpelier are breathtaking. They charge a fee to visit the house and grounds. If you only want to visit the grounds, the fee is lower.

(Having experienced the bicentennial as a kid on a summer-long vacation, I am looking forward to it.) The guided tour of the house is well done. The out-buildings and grounds are self-guided. There are many and spread out, and the whole property is on a gentle slope. Could be an issue if it is a hot and humid day. Be sure to visit the garden! Think twice about buying the Looking Through the Landscape book for $10.00. I thought it would be something I could put on my bookshelf but no. Hardly a pamphlet, it contains QR code links to YouTube videos they created. It was snuck in during the checkout process and frankly left me feeling duped. I chalked it up as a donation.
