While it's part of the sports park, there was parking close enough to make it easy to get there, next to the soccer field. There are two skate parks…read more Far off the street is an add-on type of skate park. There are a few of these throughout the state with a few items plopped on what could be a parking lot. Closer to the street is the new skate park, both with street and vert features. During opening day, the group from Skidmark Skate Mag were there, with free stuff--and a very long line. After the grand opening festivities ended, the serious skating began. It's a good small park with a centrally-located bowl, and some street features around the sides, including a wall ride and rails. There is a large quarter-pipe at the end away from the street. While the people who own H-Skate and their team were friendly, don't expect this of everyone. I can't emphasize this enough. Local people seem to be rude and aggressive far too often. That isn't like any other skate park I've visited in the state, thankfully.

According to the city's park web site: "Open daily from 9 a.m. until dusk. Located next to Lake El Estero behind Sollecito Ballpark. Rules: 1) Skaters under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult; 2) All skaters are required to wear safety gear, including a helmet, knee and elbow pads and wrist/hand guards." As many unatttended skate parks have these requirements, I can tell you that it's likely that this is a disclaimer required by the city's insurer--and likely to be ignored by skaters, as I have seen most places where admission is not required. Hopefully, spring will come soon.

The issue isn't with the design necessarily, but rather with the location. It's located in the middle of a ravine that leads to the creek out of view from passing cars. Fights happen there a lot and people tend to use it as drinking and smoking spot. Just recently, someone had cut out the light fixtures that illuminate it at night. Having light down there during a late night session was perfect but now I wouldn't go there at that time anymore. Overall, it has a place in my heart but I think that there needs to be more community involvement for it to be a safe place to skate.

The park is also very well-maintained and clean, which isn't always a guarantee with public playgrounds. It's the perfect place to let the kids burn off some energy in a safe, fun environment. There are permanent restrooms and covered picnic tables. There's a history walk around the playground perimeter and bright cultural murals. The artificial turf seems a little grimy, but otherwise it is a great urban space for kids.

What I enjoyed most about the beach was the tranquility, peacefulness, and calmness. The entire view of the area was gorgeous. I was able to soak up the ocean air and breeze. To top it off, the beach was not crowded at all. Overall, I spent about four hours there. On-site, parking was complimentary. There were portable restrooms available at everyone's convenience. There were signs to help navigate the walking trail or even heading towards the beach. I highly recommend visiting this place. I'd return in the future.

This is a fairly new state park. It is a small section of coastline in the town of Marina, just a…read morecouple of small towns north of Monterey. It used to be owned by Fort Ord which was a US Army base from World War 2 to about 1994. They used this coastline which was mostly sand dunes to train soldiers mostly in rifle and artillery fare. There are a few remnants of structures from the past but most are gone. There are plaques now to tell you what used to be where. I found it to be a good educational read. Some of the trails are going under renovation so I had to improvise my hike here. The trails seem like they come close to the highway and a few entry points going to the beach. The beach I went to was very empty due to the rough coast. It is usually pretty windy, and the water very cold, rough and with rip tides. Not really a beach to lay a blanket and/or play in the water. It was very peaceful tho in that strong nature sense. Parking is free, low crowd density, good for shorter non-strenuous hikes, I think I can find a purpose for this place.
