This was such a cool playground for kids. We were visiting from Los Angeles and saw this was close to the aquarium. So glad we stopped by. My son had a blast and made new friends. So many cool things to do and I even saw some adults having fun too ha ha

Apart from the roller slide which really hurts the old ass this park is the best! The twisty slides are very fast and my kids love running across the bridge and all the amazing slides. Such a great park!

When I learned that there was a Dennis the Menace park, I knew that I wanted to take MY little menace to check it out! My son loves nothing more than to run around like a chicken with its head cut off, zooming across the playground, playing in the sand or wood chips, getting dirty, climbing or sliding down everything in sight, and burning off all of that energy he keeps trapped inside of him all day long! And sure enough, he did just that! We didn't have a whole lot of time to stay, as we were headed elsewhere with a ticking clock behind us, but we were able to get out and let him explore some of the larger, more impressive play structures, tunnels and slides! As he ran around, finding something new and exciting around every corner, I marveled at how impressive this park truly is, both in size and variety of the structures available. I wish we had something like this back at home, but for the most part, our parks pale in comparison...and that's before even mentioning the pee-wee baseball field (complete with concession stand) and duck pond (with rentable paddleboats) on either side!

After hearing so much about Dennis The Menace Park located in Monterey & bookmarking the park for forever, I am ecstatic to say I finally made the visit. Not realizing that this park was initially opened in 1956- YES!! 1956!!- I was literally floored by the size, condition, and beauty of this place. The parking lot is kind of small but with our visit being a weekday, there was no issues. There are restrooms and working water fountains but I can't speak on the conditions since our party didn't actually use the washrooms. There are play structures specifically for younger kids vs older ones. My 5 year old had the time of her life and tearing her away was 100% a difficult task. My only complaint is the fact that Dennis The Menace Park is located sooo very far from us! 5 stars. Hopefully we'll be back sooner than later.

This huge kids' playground, just a stone's throw from the Monterey Municipal Wharf and a short stroll from Cannery Row, is easily one of the best family stops in the area. The park is packed with fun attractions for both kids and adults, with enough variety to keep everyone entertained for hours. . There are multiple play structures, big twisting slides, swings, a suspended walking bridge, a cement boat, concrete tunnels, a rock-climbing wall, a spinning cone carousel, and even a giant roller slide that's a hit with all ages. One memorable feature is the tunnel bridge -- perfectly sized for kids, but a fun (and slightly snug!) adventure for adults too. Younger explorers will also love the small maze made of chain-link fencing lined with bushes, leading to a standalone play structure with a corkscrew climber. . Visually, the park is anchored by an impressive giant arching staircase that resembles the profile of a rising sun. It sits at the center of the playground and makes for a fun photo spot as well as an energetic climb. . The whole space has a charming Charlie Brown theme, and you'll even spot a playful lion-shaped water fountain greeting visitors near the entrance. Bathrooms are conveniently available on-site and are connected to the preschool next door -- a huge plus for families spending long stretches at the park. . Just beyond the playground is a small lagoon where you can rent paddle boats, adding another layer of fun to the outing. There's also a baseball diamond next to the parking lot, which adds to the buzzing, lively feel of the area. And as you enter from the parking lot, you're welcomed by a giant vintage train engine on display -- a total showstopper for train-loving kids. . The only drawback is the parking lot itself, which is on the smaller side. On busier days, especially weekends or warm afternoons, it can take a bit of patience to secure a spot. (Reason for knocking a star off the review. Not the end of the world, but worth noting for those making a drive specifically for this playground) . All in all, this playground is a gem -- creative, spacious, and full of variety -- making it an unforgettable stop for families exploring Monterey.

What a fun play area!! It is well-maintained and has a variety of structures for all ages. There are swings, different kinds of slides, bridges, climbing walls, all spread out over a pretty big area. There is a free parking lot and restrooms in front of the

This is a must-visit playground! After spending the morning at the aquarium, we headed here at 9 AM on a Sunday, expecting it to be empty--but a few early risers were already enjoying the space. There's a small, free parking lot, but it fills up quickly. This playground has been around for decades and features great slides, a bridge, and a climbing wall. If you're visiting Monterey with kids, it's definitely worth a stop! It also has a separate playground for smaller kids and one for bigger kids.

A must see playground if you have kids and are in the area. It's not in the best condition, but it maintains a fun retro feel without compromising safety. There's the largest twisty slide I've ever seen and a fun, loud suspension bridge. There's also a wild spinny carousel at the top of the hill, which is worth checking out (and supervising younger kids). There aren't many swings, but that's ok. So much to explore and space to run around.

    Marcus B.

We've been coming here for years and it's always an excellent stop for the kids. PROs: there are lots of different rides and activities to burn your kids energy off. The train at the entrance that was put here by the founding group is also really cool for the history of the city. A lot of people don't know it but there's a snack bar that supports the park right next to the baseball field. some of our favorite things are the suspension bridge and the huge merry-go-round at the top of the hill. CONs: they should expand the parking because it could be a challenge during pretty much anytime of the day. The bathrooms definitely need to be updated along with some sort of water bottle refilling station.

I used to frequent Dennis the Menace as a child. I brought my children, and my grandchildren here. While things have changed, most things have remained the same. Dennis the Menace remains, a fun place to play at and meet new friends.

A fun collection of cartoons this park is named after. Gosh they were so much fun!

There were not many people out around 11a, as the day went on both sides of the beach filled quickly. There were three places on site to grab a bite to eat, caffeinate or cool down from - Creama (6:30a-2:30p), Lovers Point Beach Cafe (9a-4p) and Snack Shack (10-6). There was a clean, public restroom for men and women to the left of the cafe. Look for the yellow awnings and follow it to the black gates. Turn into that area and you will locate the restrooms. There is a volleyball court directly across from the beach, two sandy beach areas separated by a tall wall of rocks. The beach area furtherest from the parking lot had so much sea life to experience first hand - our daughter was amazed as were we. It was also quieter with fewer people using that side. There are 15 steps leading down to each beach area. The wildlife is everywhere and SO comfortable with people. A squirrel stood in front our daughter while she ate her cracker, a seagull stared at me while I opened a wrapper for our daughter. There was a parking lot that fits 20-30 cars and street parking. People were still arriving around 5p looking for parking in the lot unsuccessfully. I would definitely recommend arriving early to secure a parking spot and a preferred spot on the sand. Our daughter existed here for six hours and was still not ready to leave. She's a young one. There were lots of kids on the beach, most playing with each other and sharing buckets, shovels and seashells. We will definitely return before the summer is over. So breathtaking and fun for all ages to enjoy in and out of the water.

It's so serene, scenic, natural, cool, and both the botanical plantlife as well as the animals (air, land, and ocean wildlife) you can find and view here are just so amazing. Being it's in the Monterey Bay, it's almost always cool when it's hot in the valley, so it's another great place to escape to. It's just a very nice and unique point in the bay and although you can spend the whole day here, or even several days, a couple of hours will also be very rewarding for a change of scenery for those of us who are urban dwellers who want to reconnect with God's natural wonders once in awhile. Overall, Point Lobos is an authentic, breathtaking, and calming place for those who enjoy seeing the ocean and taking in all the native plants, vegetations, and all the air, land, and sea creatures one can encounter or at least observe here.

So instead of hotels and golf courses, the land remains natural and somewhat pristine. The state parks department really takes great effort in keeping this place clean and natural. They maintain this place at a high level and they don't even allow dogs into the park. The parking is super limited given the space and popularity. Within the first 2 hours of opening even on a weekday, the lots will be closed and visitors will be forced to park on the highway wherever it is allowed. It's somewhat of a clusterf*% trying to get in during prime day hours. If you park outside it will be about a 1 mile walk to get to the ocean which is where all the views are. The consolation of parking outside is that you won't get charged a day fee of $10. But you'll have to walk a good amount more. I was camping nearby so my camping pass on my windshield allowed me to bypass the parking fee. I also went in the first hour of opening which was around 8-9 am, so zero issues driving in. When I was leaving 3 hours later the parking lot 'full' sign was up, forcing cars to park outside the park. The weekends are much worse. There is a trail that goes the circumference of the park which is about 75% with ocean views and the rest inland. It is about a 5-6 mile trek to do the whole thing. But many just do segments and just site-see versus trying to see the whole thing. It is worth to explore here IMO as the views are just so damn worth it, and relentless in surprising you. It was my first time and I knew this was a massive tourist spot, so I had my reservations about this place. But I now know why this place is so popular. The plant and tree habitat that is native here from weathered cypress trees to a rainbow of wildflowers, just seamlessly blends into one another. With a keen eye you'll be able to see all kinds of animal life here from all kinds of birds to whales to sea otters. You'll need binoculars for those, but many set up spots to view such harder to spot sightings. You'll have to view the pics from this place to get a true sense. Actually even from their collection of uploaded pics, I've never seen a bigger concentration of quality photos. This place is truly a photographer's dream. So come short or long, thorough or concise but just find a way to see this at least once. It is that special but you do have to be into nature and the outdoors. Otherwise just pay the admission to go to the Monterey aquarium where it'll just get staged for you.

First and foremost, thank you to my Little for planning a fun day out in Monterey for our monster!! We honestly couldn't have imagined a better FUNtie!! Located across the way from Dennis The Menace Park, El Estero Boating is a family owned business offering paddle boat rentals. They are open 7 days a week aside from rainy, heavily foggy, or extremely windy days. Rentals are available for half hour rentals or hour long rentals. The regular paddle boats will set you back $27 for 30 mins & $35 for an hour. The fancier boats [swan, duck, dragon] are rented by 30 min increments and cost $45 for each half hour timeframe. Life jackets are conveniently included within the listed pricing. Please be advised that a $2 card transaction fee will be applied if you pay via card. The lake is spacious and that leaves you with plenty of room to roam freely and not have issues running into other boats. BUT!! Don't get the bright idea of racing any other guests bc WHO REALLY DOES THAT?? LOL!! My legs absolutely felt the burn bc ya girl doesn't do any kind of running unless it has to do with my mouth. Lmao!!! The boats work well and they go in the appropriate direction you want them to- this is not always the case for paddle boats in general! Side note: I agree with some of the reviews regarding customer service being dry and unfriendly depending on the person you're dealing with but I'll chalk it up to it being really early. By the end of our visit, our entire party was really happy with the kindness & helpfulness of the staff we encountered. Overall, picking El Estero Boating was great.
