The staff is always super helpful and friendly to work with for admin purposes (scheduling, billing, etc.). If I ever have a question if I should bring my dogs in for something, the staff is very responsive to emails and phone calls. This came in handy the other day when my dog had a bump/bite on her belly. I emailed the office, unsure if it was something that needed immediate treatment, and got a quick response back letting us know it could be monitored from home. I appreciate that the standard response wasn't that we needed to come in. Some places make you come in no matter what, but it is helpful to have a vet that ease our concerns so we don't spend extra money for non-emergency appointments over small things. It really eases my anxiety as a dog mom knowing I have the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center nearby who will take care of my dogs in any situation.

In January, Scout was brought to Orchard Park's emergency department in the middle of the night…read morewith dangerously low calcium and was close to death. Scout is a Basenji with known Fanconi syndrome and had been treated by his regular veterinarian for approximately a year. Low calcium levels had not been identified on bloodwork performed earlier that day or on previous testing. Orchard Park found the problem and treated him, and he remained there overnight for four nights. His care cost approximately $10,000, and we were extremely grateful that they saved his life. Since then, we have continued monitoring his bloodwork through Orchard Park. The last doctor I spoke with wanted Scout's bloodwork checked every 7-10 days, along with CT scans, X-rays and additional testing to investigate the underlying cause of his condition. I explained that this frequency of testing is financially impossible for our family. We could reasonably continue bloodwork approximately every two months. Scout has already had X-rays through his previous veterinarian, which did not reveal a cause. Because Fanconi syndrome is well known in Basenjis, our goal is not to pursue every possible expensive diagnostic procedure--it is to maintain his condition and give him the best quality of life we can within our financial means. We have spent more than $10,000 at Orchard Park alone, in addition to thousands of dollars at other veterinary offices. We have gone above and beyond for Scout, but we have reached our financial limit. That does not mean we are unwilling to care for him or that he should receive no care at all. Despite my attempts for the past month to arrange follow-up bloodwork, Orchard Park has refused because I cannot agree to its entire recommended protocol. The practice has now discharged Scout and will not even continue necessary bloodwork while we try to establish care with another veterinarian. I understand that veterinarians must recommend what they believe is ideal. However, there is a difference between recommending the ideal course of treatment and refusing all ongoing care because a family cannot afford every test or bloodwork every 7-10 days. I find it deeply upsetting and unethical that a hospital that knows Scout's history--and has received more than $10,000 from us--will not provide reasonable monitoring during the transition to a new veterinarian. Most families would not have been able to spend what we have already spent, and some may have been forced to euthanize their pet. Families should not be punished or abandoned because they must make realistic financial decisions. Scout still deserves compassionate care, even if we cannot agree to every expensive recommendation.

I highly recommend using this day care, ESPECIALLY if you do not want you dog locked in a kennel for hours a day. Long Story I own a 5 year old boxer mix named Oscar. Oscar has been my only family, traveling with me for the past 5 years and I care for him very much. As so, it is very hard for me to leave him in the hands of others and NEVER over night. I started using the day care because of my work schedule and also because of how happy he was when I would pick him up. He quickly learned the word "day care" and really looked forward to seeing Jen and the other dogs. I became so comfortable because of his obvious enjoyment that this was the first day care I ever allowed my dog to be stay over night! When I relocated for work I wish I could have brought Jen and the day care with me!

We have been coming to Dog Days of Buffalo for various reasons for a while now. They have an…read moreamazing facility! It's clean and fresh smelling with the best doggie day carers around. When you enter, there are two big screen TVs so you can see your pet on one of them. Our Maisie had a blast going to "school" for half-days when it was winter and she needed to run around more than in our house. When we would pick her up, they'd announce, "I need Teeny Maisie from Small Dogs" and we could see all the small dogs run for the exit with JUST Maisie being brought to us! The dogs are SO SO happy. And a GOOD dog is a TIRED dog. We had Janelle for a couple of training classes, and she knows her stuff. We got excellent training and tips from Janelle - she was authoritarian and organized, and gave individual attention as needed. Highly recommend! Lastly, yes, there's more, we have had wonderful grooming done at DDB. Always a great job on grooming, very happy. This is a great business and we will continue to support them.
