While the market runs year-round, there are less vendors out during the winter season because the actual building they run the market out of is very tiny. The St. Lawrence market puts this place to shame size-wise, but this market has a more intimate feel, which is what buying local is all about, isn't it? In the Summer time, vendors line the entrance way and take up some of the parking lot (which can get quite busy/completely full with cars. Have patience..) which adds even more options for potential dinner(s). Tip: arrive as early as you can before everything runs out! They have: -A little coffee place that also makes breakfast sandwiches and small stuff like that -Organic and non-organic fruits and veggies -Organic meats including sausages (spicy, honey garlic, plain) lamb, beef, poultry, venison, bacon etc -Yummy goods baked by Farmer's wives -this is the real deal! (I recommend the German apple cake from the woman inside towards the back of the building, the tarts that are sold outside are also good too) -All sorts of plants (one guy there sells GIANT lillies) -Beeswax candles -Pottery, sculptures, art work, knick-knacks, etc -Sometimes there's a guy there who sells $20 bottles of olive oil who is a really good sales-pitcher. The oil does taste really good though. When you're finished over here, take a nice stroll downtown and check out some of the bookstores, or sit by the ravine in the shade with a coffee.

The opal plums were some of the most delicious I have ever had, and the peaches did not disappoint either. The market also sells wild blueberries at about $9 a pint and I would say this is worth a try if you are visiting the region for the first time! One thing to note is that the fruit tastes so good because it is sold rather ripe, and so I would not really recommend buying more than what you can eat in 3-4 days! I thought you've got to be kidding me no apples? This is an orchard, for heaven sakes! But sadly no apples until nearly October. The shelves were looking pretty bare. The freezers that usually are filled with frozen baked goods or frozen pie crusts were all empty. The store was dirty muck everywhere. Lawn was overgrown. Flower beds unkempt. The employees inside looked miserable and there was a lot more last year. This business changed hands and it looks as if the new owners (who worked with the old ownership for a whole year) are running this business into the ground. If you look at their Facebook page it looks like they're making excuses for customer complaints and being highly combative instead of genuinely wanting to fix the issues. I ordered a roast beef sandwich; the ingredients were very fresh and it contained plenty of protein. We finished up with ice cream and went on our merry way. Yes, the shop is located at a crossroad in the middle of farm country, literally next to nothing. Even so, it has plenty of visitors who are drawn to its fresh food (with no additives) at reasonable prices.

We arrived mid morning and there were a study stream of patrons. Comparatively speaking it was not a large market. What struck me was the quality of the produce. The produce was gorgeous and priced well. We spoke with a few vendors and they were friendly and informative. You could shop for anything from meat (there was a long line) to produce and baked goods. The market is off the beaten path, so I imagine it is popular with Stratford locals. There is also ample parking. My happy place is at a market and this was worth the trip.

**Review for their pick your own strawberry**…read more The price for 2018 is $6/kg, which I remembered it was $5/kg when I last went here for the 2016 strawberry season. They have a pretty large strawberry field for customers to pick from. You can either bring your own container to buy a basket from them, and they will weight your strawberries at the end to determine the cost. There is no time limit of how long you stay in the field to pick, and they have free parking on site. It appears that this year the yield was lower than usual, as the strawberries were mostly smaller than the ones I picked back in 2016. However, they still taste really good despite the smaller size. The strawberries go back fairly quickly, so you should eat them within a day or two after picking, or store them in the freezer to make smoothies. They also have other produce available for picking, which I think corn is coming up later in July. You can go on their website to see what's available and the prices. They also have a market on the other side of the street for customers to buy fresh produce from, much like a farmers market

There is also gelato and ice cream offerings. I got myself a strawberry sundae that hit the spot. I also picked up some ambrosia apples, an unique maple chipotle pepper seasoning, red pepper jelly, strawberry cream honey (!!) and a corn dip. The last thing I hesitated on until a customer said it was amazing. Sold! I bought a frozen one to survive a bit longer and I haven't tried it yet, but considering the enjoyment of everything else, I trust it will be good. My sister got some fresh corn on the cob and her whole family wished she brought home more. So if you're in the area, do yourself a favour and see what Herrie's has to offer.
