Absolutely terrible clinic. I had been in touch with them for a month ....first they requested a referral from my primary care so my primary care sent it over. They kept saying they didn't receive it. I had to contact primary care several times to have them fax the referral to them a couple times until they finally received it. They got a pre-authorization from my insurance company which means they accepted me as a patient. They scheduled me for several visits so I blocked myself on my work schedule. I filled out all the paperwork , showed up at my very first appointment because I was very excited about a new journey and I was told that they will not be able to see me. It was very unprofessional the way that the staff didn't have a clue that they don't accept my insurance until one of the other staff members pointed it out. she said just because they don't accept my insurance, I wont be able to pay out-of-pocket to be seen. They obviously had some discrimination against me. I would never waste my time to see these unprofessional people that called themselves a clinic. They didn't even apologize enough for wasting my time to come in , to fill paperwork and to go back and forth with my primary care. read more

Absolutely awful they were completely disorganized I arrived at my schedule time and they told me they were too busy and I needed to come back in four hours then I came back and they informed me they no longer had the shot I needed despite calling them the day before and confirming. Dr Gulick and her team are amazing! I've never had easier success losing weight without much exercise (although I should do more for my health. I'm working on it). . Dr is so encouraging and she and her team take all the time I need for questions. Dr Gulick cares about the whole person and their health, not just the weight loss. She found the best options for me and it's working. I have lost just under 20 lbs in 2 1/2 months without a crazy restrictive diet. I couldn't be happier. Overall I had a very good experience with the providers there, with a couple of caveats: I agree wholeheartedly with the weight-loss group that the bad effects of excess carbohydrates have been far underestimated by the medical community. Unfortunately, I felt this was being taught alongside the impression that patients could consume unlimited quantities of animal fat with no adverse consequences. In particular, a documentary entitled "Big Fat Lie" was being praised, a film which took this idea to the extreme. Near the end of the movie, they were interviewing Dean Ornish, a long time champion of low-fat plant-based diets, who has done very substantial research to document the improvement this can have on heart health. (By the way, Dr. Ornish also strongly encourages restriction of refined carbohydrates.) In the film, they intentionally cut Dr. Ornish off in mid-sentence, and followed with a statement suggesting that Dr. Ornish is probably responsible for "millions of deaths" due to his wrong thinking and recommendations. This was a turning point for me, since the clinic has strongly endorsed this film. I found the comments in the film about Dr. Ornish to be both inaccurate as well as very unkind and unprofessional. I'm sure the clinic does not likely agree that doctor Ornish is responsible for "millions of deaths," but because of the strong endorsement, the film unfortunately reflects poorly on the clinic. As I said, I believe the providers and instructors in the program have very important points to make, but I was dismayed to hear instructors imply that patients were better off eating a plate full of bacon than a single piece of toast for breakfast. I believe there's a way to encourage carbohydrate restriction without disregarding the decades of research showing harmful effects of animal fats. As I said, overall I found the practitioners and instructors to be friendly and professional. And I believe the message of decreasing carbohydrate intake is extremely important. I do believe it is dangerous to encourage patients to eat unlimited amounts of animal fat, or at the very least to not point out that this may be a problem. As physicians, we take an oath to "do no harm." I think it is possible to get the low carb message out there without ignoring other dangerous behaviors. I love this clinic. I have to admit that I have not been the best at following the plan and the excellent information given, but in the time I have been focusing on my health, I have lost 24 pounds. I have 20 more to lose. The positives about the clinic: information given is excellent. Labs are VERY informative. Doctor Guilick is exceptionally good at informing each individual how to interpret results. I love many of the staff, and if you get to know them a bit, your weight loss journey is even better supported. The clinic "need to fix" issues: the billing is confusing, and you may be paying more than you expected. However, all of those labs are brilliant--and I can almost guarantee that you will learn more about YOUR body and its chemistry than you have learned from YOUR general physician. If you have metabolic issues, I recommend that you go to this clinic. In fact, I was just researching a different place to help me with the remaining 20 pounds, and I thought, "what am I doing?" I already have my team at OMWL in place, so I plan to contact them and go back. Another "need to fix": office is run down. They are making bank. Invest some money, as another reviewer said. And also, as a writer and ex-publisher, I notice what is distributed in terms of paper. A lot of typos and ugly photo copies do not impress. Spiff it up, folks! Hire someone to clean up your image, and watch yourself do better. read more

Beware of hidden costs with Oregon Medical Weight Loss. Make sure you ask about the cost of every. single. thing. they do for you. Do not assume that they will be courteous enough to fully inform you about the costs of things they are doing for you. Your insurance WILL be billed for every little thing even though it sounds like the program is inclusive. And you'll sign a paper, as is standard for medical care, that holds you responsible for any charges that are denied by your insurance. If you need to lose weight, this is a good place to go, you just have to watch out for those hidden charges. If they want to run any tests, ask about how much it will cost first. Then consider if your insurance denies the claim, would you be okay to pay that much for whatever they want to do? Check with your insurance to be sure that whatever it is will be covered. Because according to their billing office today, they no longer have anybody there who checks benefits so it is up to the patient to check their insurance benefits. Be prepared to pay! read more

The Oregon Medical Weight Loss program has completely destroyed my relationship. With SUGAR, That is. I was happy with my seemingly innocent clandestined meetings with chocolate and ice cream and cookies. No one knew but me. So what if I had worked myself into a pre diabetic state? Who needs a pancreas anyway? Well after the first session with Dr Gulick, I learned how the body produces insulin and how hard my body worked to make up for all of the sugar and carbs that I put into it. I felt bad for my body. Here it was trying to compensate for my bad behavior. working so hard to keep up. I didn't sign up for this knowledge. I came in here to lose weight. I have lost weight, but my focus has changed. I have been taken off of eight medications, lowered my blood pressure, increased my energy, and have become smarter. I may have come in here to lose weight, but I am staying to feel better, live longer and be kinder to my pancreas. if I lose a few pounds in the process, that's icing on the cake, or maybe sauce on the meatball! read more

I have to go four stars because OMWL has changed my life, but I can't go five because as another yelper said, the life change was not cheap... After purchasing a Groupon I was told was all inclusive for $99 I have wracked up just under 4k in bills. Yes, they bill insurance (I have a high deductible so I'm slightly more aware of what I'm paying for than someone whose insurance covers it with just a copay. I'm not complaining too much, I've been in the program 10 months and I've lost 40lbs. So what is that worth monetarily you have to decide for yourself. I've got 40 more to lose but I'm going it alone simply based on cost. I'm hopefully that the knowledge that Dr. Gulick bestowed upon me, a massive amount of info and data specific to me and my body (via labs and test results) and also general about how the human body works and process food will serve me well out I'm the world all on my own. Overall the goal was to lose weight. I'm still questioning OMWL vs weight loss surgery, both methods cost about the same but clearly the weight loss surgery would have been the quicker (Chances are I would have met my weight loss goal by now.) albeit more painful way to go, but if you have 150+lbs to lose that might not be so bad options. read more

Unfortunately, I just had a very unprofessional experience with OMWL. Under the drs instruction I began to take a medication to help level out my insulin and glucose levels. The process to get acclimated to this medication is not fun so stopping and starting is not something you really want to do. But I took it religiously and as I was coming upon my last few doses I called the office Monday morning to get a refill and inquire about some concerns and upcoming labs. There was no answer so I left the message. I got a call from the nurse/medical asst later that day saying the dr was out and she would talk to her on Tuesday and call me back. I heard nothing from them on Tuesday and I ran out of medication for my evening dose that day. Wednesday rolls around and I called in the morning around 8:45am, heard nothing so called again a little after 1pm. No one answered either time, so I left messages both times. No return call. Now it's Thursday and I have been without medication since Tuesday evening. I called again about 8:45am and left another message (that would be the 4th message w/o a call back and 5th time since beginning this journey 4 days prior to get a refill, if you're counting) You guessed it, no one called me back. So I called AGAIN at 5:15pm and finally spoke to someone in the other side of the clinic (they have a regular medical practice and the OMWL clinic operating out of the same office). She was nice enough and was looking through my chart trying to figure out what's happening. She said that the dr had not yet reviewed the request from initial call - it's been 3 full days since the dr has been in and it has not even been looked at??? She said that the dr was currently with a patient and would make sure to have her call me back that evening. Did I get a call? NO. Not only did I not get a call back on Thursday evening as promised, I didn't receive a call Friday either. I finally called again (6th phone call) myself to cancel all remaining appts. And to top it off, when I called to cancel the girl I spoke with did nothing to try to rectify the situation, no apologies, no "how can we fix this", NOTHING. Basically had the attitude that I had done something wrong. Her explanation was, "well, I sent all your messages back to them. I don't know why they haven't returned your call". Really? That's the best you got? That's at the top of my list of worst customer service experiences. It's extremely disappointing that they have such little concern for the welfare of their patients. read more
