This is one of the smallest cutest post offices ever. And with a town name like Humptulips, even cuter. It's right next to the gas station/convenience store and if you blink, you'll probably miss it. While it's a beautiful bridge with stunning views of Mt. Hood and The Columbia River, it's very…read morenarrow so unless you are a passenger, keep your eyes on the bridge! There are size limitations, but some vehicles and trucks that cross are wide and it doesn't leave much room for error. Speed limit is 15 mph for a reason! Obey the rule. They have instituted a fast pass program called Breezeby, so for people like me who cross this bridge frequently, it makes payment so much easier. You set up an account, they give you an RFID tag for your windshield, and you proceed through. They send email receipt and monthly statement. Plus, the fees to cross are much cheaper; it's $1.75 to cross each way, $1.25 for the Bridge of the Gods which is also part of this program. Those that don't have a Breezeby account pay double, so $3.50 per crossing for Hood River Bridge; $2.50 for Bridge of the Gods. More for pick-ups, passenger vehicles and trucks. Even though it's a toll bridge, they no longer have toll booth operators which caused congestion as people stopped to pay. Now a camera takes a pic of your license plate, and if you do not go tomThe Port of Hood River online and pay your bill within 4 days, they send you an invoice that includes an additional $3 administrative fee. There are several computers available for use - some days people line up before opening time to get at one. Arrive early and assert yourself - you don't have to sign in at the desk, just take a right when you go in the front door and find yourself a computer. Located along East Scenic Drive across the street from Sorosis Park, the views are spectacular, especially at sunset when the entire sky is illuminated in vibrant colors. For those that enjoy history, Kelly Point is dedicated to the memory of Virgil Kelly who made many contributions during his years of service city councilor (1939 -1961) Kelly View Point is also the site of several veterans' memorials honoring those that served our country in various wars, and who gave the greatest sacrifice. Take the time to visit each memorial, read the inscriptions and honor those that selflessly served. The memorials are: the Loren R. Kaufman Monument, the Vietnam War Memorial, the Veterans Memorial, and the Desert Shield-Storm Memorial. This area has its own parking strip so you can pull right up. Perched overlooking the expansive landscape of The Dalles below, it's a beautiful spot. There is a great walking path across the street if you want to enjoy a one mile walk and really take in the sweeping views. There are always people walking and jogging along the path. Across the street is Sorosis Park with a playground for the kids, picnic tables, covered gathering areas and restroom facilities.
