I have been driving or riding the bus across this bridge because it's very satisfying not to mention good for my mental health. I am always going across it after my therapy appointments this year. Even my own therapist thought that if I take the bus or drive across the bridge it can help me reduce the mental distress that I have for the past 3 years. Every time I ride the bus across, I turn off my phone or put away my book and look outside the window. Just recently I had to drive here and never once have I felt at easy driving a car. This bridge is huge. I never seen anything like this in California. I like how the arch makes a nice addition to the build of the structure. We arrived at 9:15am on a weekday so the crowds were small and the weather cool and comfortable. We did the Multnomah Wahkeena falls loop which was about 5.5 miles. The trail was well groomed and easy to follow. The two namesake falls were the most stunning but there were many beautiful falls, vegetation, and overlooks along the way. Lots of switchbacks but overall I'd rate the trail medium in difficulty. We ran into a few people along the way but it was not very crowded. The paths to both the falls are paved (but steep). Only one annoying, having-a-fit-kid seen along the way. Ha ha. Felt more sorry for the mom. People were friendly. Great experience.

There is a gentle sloping incline at each end, since it is a bridge, but they've made it so it's not steep and very manageable for a variety of people's abilities & ages. Traffic is always terrible no matter what time of day you're traveling. If you're really unlucky you'll get stuck in one of those raised bridge situations. Your day is completely fucked if that happens. The aesthetic of the bridge isn't bad. It's a dual truss design with vertical lifts. It's 3,538 ft. long and carries Interstate 5 over the Columbia River. Opened on Valentine's Day 1914 for the northbound span and southbound opened in 1958. I guess with the two world wars going on, that slowed down the project. The bridge has 3 north and 3 southbound lanes carrying well over 150,000 vehicles daily. In 1982 the bridge was placed on The National Register of Historic Places. There has been debate and proposals since 2005 about replacing the bridge and adding light rail to the new bridge. Of course nobody can agree on anything and it's been going on 20 years so I don't see anything happening soon. Ridiculous politicians. 2025 -Review #1

Since this historic Goose Hollow neighborhood bridge doesn't cross a river (instead it crosses over…read morethe Jefferson St road and max line), it doesn't get the the recognition and attention that most Portland bridges do, but it's important for connecting the King's Hill and Vista Ridge areas, and for providing a nice view of the downtown Portland cityscape. It even has 4 balconies (with benches) that extend from the sidewalk to give pedestrians a place to photograph and gaze (the title shot for Portlandia, with tall evergreens on the sides and Big Pink smack in the middle, was actually shot here). Unfortunately, it's more commonly known not for its picturesque view, but rather for the number of people using it to commit suicide (It's locally known by some as "Suicide Bridge"). 6 people in just the last 8 years have died (5 attempts happened in 2011 alone, and 2 people have died so far in 2013). It looks like city support is gathering to some kind of barriers/fences to decrease future attempts, but given it's a registered historic bridge, the chances of it happening are decreased since multiple other agencies may need to approve the changes before any construction could begin. If you're in the area, take the opportunity to stop by and catch the view before it's obscured by chainlink fences or the like! And by all means, take the opportunity now to put the Multnomah County Crisis Hotline (503-988-4888) in your phone now so that if you ever need it for yourself or someone else, you know where to find it.

In a great collaboration between neighbors, business and the new transportation commissioner, some fences were built in record time. Before the fences were completed, neighbors volunteered to watch the bridge to keep angels from falling. In turn the love lock tradition attached. I love love, but please don't drop those keys on people below! Yes they will probably have to be cut off. While driving west on Interstate 84 through the Columbia River Gorge, my wife noticed a View Point…read morestop, overlooking the river. It's only accessible going west. So we made a stop (easy on, easy off). The nebulous parking area is long enough to handle a big-rigs, and noticed some of them coming (for rest stops). Otherwise, there are spots for cars. The stop provides a great view of the Gorge, Vista House with one historic marker.

He is facing the square itself, and not towards the street. Now there are food carts between him and the max line, to his back. I have seen drunks try to pick a fight with him, people high on something try to roundhouse kick him. Please try to remember this is not a sentient being, and will not give you the response you desire, though you can stand with him under his umbrella to take shelter from the rain. He faces a great many celebrations. The Pioneer Courthouse Christmas Tree is lit in front of him the day after Thanksgiving. I have seen Christmas Carolers in front of him. One year there was a dance mob in front of him dancing to Michael Jackson's song "Thriller", everyone dressed up. Don't believe me?
