I arrived one hour early, but they still allowed for me to pick up my meal. My one gripe about this place was their hot food bar. I didn't feel that the food was that great, but it was also because we went to eat close to closing. This had no impact on my review because I'm sure as the day got later the food quality was different. And I have no doubt that if I ate earlier, the food would have been great!. There's an awesome alcohol and wine selection as well even though I'm not much of a drinker. It's very conveniently located on route 35 and very close to Red Bank. I live in Freehold but I still come to this Whole Foods even though there's one in the Marlboro area.

In Portugal, Aldi is my favorite small supermarket, with quality merch and low prices. Ignore my review from 5 years ago, as it talks to a 5 year old start up Aldi in the US . I suspect the US. Concept has improved to keep up with its European heritage. Aldi is better in every respect in Europe, especially on the Iberian peninsula. For example, their flash frozen shrimp 12-15 size at around 12 Euro a kilo is worth twice the price. Same is true with specialty items like wine, liquor, cheese, and amazing breads. Some Trader Joe's items (nuts, candy, chocolate) are repackaged and bear the TJ logo. So .... I hope the Rte 9' Aldi has grown with the European parent. If so, it is a bargain supermarket that cannot be best //even by Costco standards.

As you walk in, it's a fairly large and clean feeling supermarket. In addition to food, they also carry miscellaneous household items such as an electric hand vac, decorative baskets, scratch posts for cats, and other knick-knacks. It's a very odd feeling as you walk around. Dare I say, almost like a general dollar store vibe. There is no charm or warmth to it whereas Trader Joe's oozes with it. The only workers I deemed truly friendly are the cashiers. I went there on a whim and found their alternative milk sells for $1.99/half-gallon. Their Oat Milk sells for $2.99, by the way. Things on sale are mostly their own brand but they do carry some name brand items. They also carry some organic items but their selections are limited. They do carry a fair amount of vegetarian-based frozen prepared items, though. Be aware, if you use their paper bags to hold your groceries, it will cost you 6 cents for each bag. If you want to use their cart when you shop, have a quarter. Your quarter will be returned when you bring the cart back to the designated area. This is how they cut down on manpower and have the carts more organized and not all over the parking lot.

So I have always loved this store. However today may be the day that I never go back. The last few…read moretimes I have been at the store they have a rope blocking the self check out lanes. Today I had multiple issues with the one register, and at one point I opened the rope to walk over the the cashier and the manager came over and closed it. I asked him why it was even up as customers are being forced to walk between others waiting online. His reply was you have to walk by the cashier. I said but going this way you still do that. He refused to answer. The register again acted up a few moments later I again opened the rope as I had my 2 small children with me and was not willing to walk too far from them. He them came and locked it. I said to him that he is rediculous, and this is how you lose customers. After a third register problem I finished my order and promptly moved the rope entirely to leave. I dont get the purpose as it is causing extremely long lines forcing shoppers to be stuck in aisles and have people walk through aisles after payment. The manager was a complete jerk and his whole point doesnt even make sense. If im going to bag and scan my own groceries pay for a shopping cart and be treated like a criminal and locked into area all for 4 cents off grapes you can keep them ill shop elsewhere.

The items sold here are mostly by their own brand at fairly reasonable prices. Know your prices because some items can be found elsewhere at cheaper prices. ALDI's fruits and vegetables are very fresh and this store is fully stocked. They are new and I hope they continue to maintain their inventory. My main issue with them was the fact that I was freezing inside the store. Granted, today it was Highs around 37°F, outdoors and the wind chill was at 17 MPH. The doors kept opening and closing as people came and went and as I perused the wide aisles. I wore a down jacket and was still freezing. The cashiers are friendly. There are usually lines at the checkout but cashiers are fast and efficient. I do wish they would have more than one or two cashiers. As you are checking out, it is encouraged for you to bring your own bags but you can purchase paper or plastic bags at a minimal cost. Be sure to have a quarter with you, so that you can utilize their shopping cart. You will get back your quarter when you return the cart to the designated areas.
