I am so happy I found this store! It's not easy finding premade bahnchan and kimchi in my area. Frozen desserts, fresh pastries, frozen and fresh noodles, Korean pepper flakes, gochujang pastes, soybean pastes, daikon, they have it all! I also love that they have a frozen section of sushi grade salmon, ahi tuna, unagi, masago.... I spent way too much money for such a small market. But well worth it. The owner was friendly and we laughed when he said he could tell I was more western Korean haha. Just a nice market with a surprising amount of variety. read more

Here I was driving all the way to the West Bank to Hong Kong market for simple ingredients and food items I had only wished were convient. Well, those days are over! They let us sneak in 10 minutes before closing which was just enough time for me to buy what I needed for some yummy homemade ramen! I got the Homdashi stock mix, Mushrooms, frozen ramen noodles, red pepper paste for this dish here. If I had had time, I definitely would have snagged more but it was just enough for a simple yet flavorful dish. We also bought Tteokbokki and gyoza but haven't tapped into those goodies just yet. Can't wait to be back to fill up my cart with unique ingredients I've been looking forward to playing and learning with. :) Happy to have y'all in Metairie! read more

I visit this place every week, once a week. The staff is friendly, the food is fresh and delicious, and the store is always clean.

I LOVE this market for anything oriental. We travel from 30 minutes away and easily drop $100 after getting everything we want. It's a great place to get those speciality items tik tok teaches us about, like dark soy and gochujang. And believe me, those items change the meal entirely so don't sub with things from the American markets. The kimchi in the cooler is my favorite of all that we've tried. This is a great store to go especially if you are in the west side, like Metairie or Kenner. Great selection for Korean and some Japanese food. I will not have to go to Houston for many things with this store. Some prices do reflect this, but having it near me is well worth it. But many items are as cheap as I've seen it in Houston. Fantastic store for quick shopping. There is a great assortment of tea, drinks, and other dry goods. The freezer section appears small, but actually contains a great variety of options. Keep in mind that this store is themed towards Japanese, Korean, and Northeastern Chinese delicacies. Southeast Asian items are better found at Golden City Market. read more

This is my favorite Asian market in Jefferson Parish. While I agree that the supersized market on the West Bank is very cool, it is too far and too big to be the best for me. This market is cozy, super clean, and offers lots of healthy options such as sprouted rice, msg-free frozen snacks, and beautiful, low-priced produce. This place mainly specializes in Korean foods, but also offers a few Japanese and Vietnamese staples. They have an excellent selection of frozen seafood and teas/dried herbs. read more

A nice little Asian (Korean, primarily) market, which has many interesting and worthwhile ingredients. Nonetheless, it does not compare on selection or price to the bigger markets which abound in the area. The parking lot is also rather small and unwieldy. Not bad for a quick stop if you're in the area, but there are other markets, even on this side of the river, with more to offer. read more

I love venturing in here and randomly picking out different oriental savory and sweet things to try. Especially my fav for buying miso soup and rice noodles and vegetarian gyoza. Last week I was on an epic quest to find the hottest packaged noodles in the world so I can film the Girly suffering through a bowl for Youtube views. This was one stop on that quest. It's a small store located next to Pho NOLA, it has a small selection of noodles. Sadly, none of them would work for torturing the Girly. It has a small selection of most items you might want from an Asian market but you are better off crossing the Bridge and heading to Hong Kong market if you need a better selection. read more

It is small, but has so many treasures :) There is a large refrigerated and frozen section, for things such as fresh noodles, frozen dumplings, fish cakes, etc. There are tons of sauces, spices, dry chilis and mushrooms, soups in cans and packets, noodles in packets, and Asian snacks. Lovely little Asian grocery shop, just off Vets in a strip next to a newly-opened Vietnamese place. There really isn't a super wide variety of fresh fruits/vegetables available here but they do carry a satisfying amount of frozen goods (think dumplings, fish, mochi, soy products like tofu and fresh noodles) and just about anything you'd need to cook authentically Asian in terms of spices/sauces. There's also a little section with cooking utensils/pots and pans and the like, and the wall behind the counter is filled with DVDs/CDs that are presumably available for rental. There seems to be an emphasis on Korean foodstuffs here which is great since the other Asian grocers in the area tend to stock predominantly Chinese/Vietnamese. This may be the only place this side of Hong Kong Market in Gretna where you'll find 5 lb bags of pure ground chili powder, which should enable you to make more kimchee than your stomach could probably handle! read more

This is a cool little Oriental store that has a lot of things you might not even find at Hong Kong market. They have herbal remedies I like such as ginsing with royal jelly. The prices are a bit more expensive and this place is more of a convenience sized store but they pack a lot of items for the space. This is one of the few places where you can find many Asian items in Metairie. read more

My Korean friend asked the lady at Korea House for a tip on markets, and this was the spot she led us to. Very small, reminds me of the small family-owned markets in Koreatown back home, down the kids on summer break working to stock. The prices are a little more than I'm used to but I'm sure that's to be expected. Not much produce, mostly packaged and dried goodies that are difficult to find elsewhere, such as specific oils and ingredients. Huge jars of kimchi in the back fridge. There's also a little deli in the back, aka a stand with one lady cooking up some lunch specials, I believe. Also, a good amount of frozen meat, like the kalbi cuts of beef. The one thing I did buy this trip was Tiger Balm and Bai Hua oil for my massive bug bites, which was kind of expensive. Behind the counter they have lots of Asian medicinal herbs and teas, which I will probably be hitting up eventually. read more

i wanted to make sweet-sweet love to this market. it rivals some of the korean markets in the san jo area in terms of cleanliness, price, selection (food and korean dramas on dvd!) and size. don't get me wrong, i love asian goods of all kinds, but i have moments where i miss the mother's land food (especially when i'm down in NOLA). extra kudos for the location (it's conveniently right off vet's) and for the shopkeeper not asking me, "you ko-lee-an?" instead, he asked if it was my first time... the oriental name is a little off-putting, but it's the souf, so whatevs. read more

After being in Louisiana for a year I have finally found a place to pick up my supplies for Korean Food! They had everything I needed. :)

I went to this place this morning trying to find ingredients to cook pancit. For such a small store, this place has lots and lots of stuff. Unfortunately, they did not have pancit noodles or at least I couldn't find them. The reason for only 3 stars is because the person who was working in the market, was not at all helpful. I'm sure he could see that I was searching for something. He was seated in the back on a folding chair reading his paper. After I walked around the store for about 10 minutes, he looked up at me then back to his paper. He never spoke a word to me. I couldn't find what I needed so I left. I might go back here if I need Korean food ingredients such as red pepper powder for kimchi, but for other Asian ingredients I'd much rather go to Asian Gourmet on Williams(I discovered AG after I left this place). read more

They have a pretty good selection of mostly Korean items, especially for such a tiny store, but prices are jacked up. Not sure I can find Korean rice cakes (dduk) anywhere else though, and that's my main reason for seeking out Asian grocery stores. :) The owners are a nice Korean couple that will make small talk with you in Korean (if you're Korean, that is) as they bag your purchases. read more
