I love to order to go good from here! OMG the carne asada is divine!!! But they also have many other options, their fajita mix is great. The chicken grilled or rotisserie is good but it is sometimes a trial and error, cause while always tasty it sometimes comes out dry. Their soups are flavorful and their sides tasty. I dusky order from here for taco nights and parties. Their portions are so generous that I can feed a small army for a very affordable price. And the staff is as leads nice and caring. The space however is a little crowded. But I get everything I can posible want for my little Latin heart who frequently misses its home food. They do stuck up on various Latin countries traditional foods. And their produce section might be small compared to large stores but the quality is as good or better than a wholes food or trader joe. read more

I want to explain something about customer service the store hours say open at 6:00am and close at 10:00pm. Not, close and lock the doors at 9:55pm. If the staff or the manager does not agree with Ideal's Supermarket posted opening and closing then they need to find another job. It's false advertising and disservice to customers. Doors and servicing customers should remain open until the store officially closes, and all closing procedures should start at that time. We were let in but that was after I told the manager about the posted hours. We need two things and we were still out of the store by 10:00pm. Really an excellent Latin market. Many specialty food markets don't have a lot of fresh vegetables, but their selection is impressive, and I would go here if I was in need of obvious Central American specialties like jalapeno peppers or avocados. I also took a deep breath and bought a bit of cactus. We'll see how that goes. They have plenty of other things, including appealing bakery items, fantastic tortillas, and "authentic" lo mein. Hot sauces aplenty of course, and you can get your beans plenty of ways here. Their prepared foods seem vegetarian unfriendly (and not labeled really, whereas the rest of the store has pretty clear bilingual labels in most areas), and there are certainly areas of the store that are of no use to me, but there's enough that is. This location seemed larger than the Central City one. The big negative, although I haven't dinged them too heavily for it, was that checkout was a mess. Lines developed, and they opened another register to help, but the guy working it clearly had no idea what was going on, and struggled mightily. I was half inclined to try figuring out how to ring up mushrooms myself or make my own change. I felt rather sorry for him; it's not the individual's fault of course, but staffing and training is someone's responsibility and someone dropped the ball the night I visited. OMG, holy cow, what the what?! The place is AMAZING! When you walk in the smell of home cooked Mexican food hits you smack dab in the face. The smell alone makes you want to look around and see what's up! When you first walk in there's a ton of baked goods. It's an assortment of cakes, cookies, donuts, breads, others things, and my personal favorite...CHURROS! The end!!! Okay, not the end, but if you don't try the churro, I feel so sorry for you! After you pass up the bakery, you get to the hot foods. I didn't get a plate lunch, but it all looked and smelled amazing. I did purchase some cracklins' for the hubby from the hot food area. The cracklins' were huge, like the size of cucumbers! They tasted great too. I feel a cajun/Mexican battle coming on. I'd like to take a minute to mention the produce section. Everything is so nicely organized and neatly stacked. The produce looked so beautifully fresh! There's a ton of differently beers, cheeses, meats, sodas, and so much more. This is one of my favorite go-to grocery stores for fresh fruit and vegetables. The fruit is always perfectly ripe and the vegetables are crisp and fresh. The best part? The prices. 15 limes for $1! 2 avocados for $1.19! I honestly do not know why people would shop anywhere else. As an added bonus, the meat is delicious and fresh and you can get it pre-marinated. You can also get great bakery goods including delicious conchas and flan. I can buy my favorite latin producs, like Abuelitas hot chocolate. I am telling you, give this place a try! read more

I went here for dinner to go and got the beef soup and one beef soft taco. Food at the location on Airline Dr. in Metairie, La. is to go. The food was top-ranked delicious. All of the staff is very friendly though you would do better with a translator due to the Spanish speaking staff. I stopped here out of curiosity one lunchtime. It used to be the Walgreens that moved across the street replacing a gas station. It's a welcomed addition, but can be difficult to get out of when you leave. When you first walk in, the upbeat Latin music greets your ears as your eyes feast on brightly colorful, festive and eye catching decorated cakes on the right. To the left are the checkout counters, so the store flow is to move down the right aisle, to the back, down the opposite wall and back to the checkout counters in a big U ( with trips up and down the aisles in the middle). So on entering, continue up the right hand aisle. Beyond the cakes, are the refrigerated flans, and other pudding or milk desserts. (I tried one of the flavors of the tres leches cakes, but it was too sweet for me.) Beyond the refrigerated case, What a surprise to find a huge Mexican style "panaderia" or bakery, with many of the pastries I remember, with delight, from trips to Mexican border towns, as a child. The pastries were nickels and dimes then, but these are $0.89 each which isn't too bad. You self serve which pieces you want with tongs and drop them into a bag for the cashier to count up at checkout. The pastries are a little less sweet than Americans are used to, so I think they add more frosting and sugar coatings than the ones I remember as a child. The variety is an amazing treat!!! - there are 8 floor-to-over-my-head, glass cases, with 7 shelves per case, with dozens of varieties to choose from. It's worth going just to get a flavor of traditional old Mexico. Moving past the panaderia cases is the serving cafeteria-style line with a good variety of grilled chicken, beef, pork, fish, rices, stews, plantains, yucca, potatoes, soups, and more, for lunch plates or for sale by the pound or quart. The lunch plates are enormous for $8.99. The staff behind the counter usually doesn't speak much English, but the people in line have always been friendly and willing to tell them what I wanted if pointing or miming didn't work. You can ask for extra grilled jalapeños which are wonderful. I could take a pound of those to go. Be warned though, between 11 and 1:30 during the week, the line on the deli is very long and you can wait 10-15 minutes before you can order. They have a few tables outside to sit and eat your take out. Past the deli line, the entire back wall of the store is a great variety of produce including fresh epazote (put it in the water when you boil beans to cut down on gas) which I haven't seen even at Whole Foods. They have a good selection of typical produce, but also fresh yucca, coconuts, papayas, plantains, chayote squash, and vegetables I've never seen, other non- traditional produce. Most of the times I've been, all the produce has been very fresh ( late in the day less so). Moving around to the next wall is the refrigerated cases with typical grocery items, then moving back towards the front of the store is a fresh fish and meat deli and at the front, by the cashiers is a liquor section. In the middle of the store are aisles of average grocery staples, with a little heavier emphasis on Hispanic items. The prices are very reasonable and a welcomed alternative to Walmart or at the other end, the expensive local chains. All the non-Hispanics I've mentioned this place to seem suspicious and hesitant to go, but the store is very clean, very well organized, spacious and upbeat. The staff have been helpful, if shy about not speaking English. It's worth checking out if for no other reason than the panaderia. read more

Houston has Fiesta Market, we have Ideal Market. They have a butcher, bakery, kitchen and groceries all in one stop. I usually stop for their flan but end up trying a Vaso de 3 Leches which is a 3 milk vanilla cup. It was really good but I will stick with the flan next time. It was a little too sweet for me. The cup has vanilla cake bites with layers of cappuccino flavor whipped cream and leche flavor at the bottom. I also got a rice combo with shredded beef and plantains and a side of corn. Moros y Cristianos - Black Beans and Rice was cooked to perfection. It's actually my first time trying it.The shredded beef was well season and cooked. The combo also came with two tortillas so I made a taco with the meal. My food taker gave me a good helping that I still had left overs. Her English was not great so I did alot of pointing at what I wanted. They had these giant corn that looks so delish that I order one. All I can say is that if eaten warm, it's ok but very bland. When it became cold, it was dry and leather like. It can get very intimidating when you go there to order because they seem to cater to mostly Spanish but if it looks good just order it and try it. They carries alot of pastries, cakes, po boy bread, fresh products, meats, beers and ect. Try their grill chicken, it's better then the ones at Sams! There is plenty of parking. read more

Ideal Market is such a nice addition to the area. I have never been to one before and was very surprised at everything they offered. I pictured it being a specialty store offering a few things that one might not find at a typical grocery store. I was totally wrong on that one, not only do they have all the specialty items, but its a full blown grocery store as well! They have everything from fresh produce, meats, deli, bakery, hot food bar, and everything in between. The bakery is hard to resist especially since they bake everything fresh daily. I had the pleasure of enjoying a fresh, still warm from the oven, churro. The last time I had a real one was in California. I would suggest going early for bakery items because I've gone back in the afternoon and the Churros didn't taste quite as fresh. Everyone is really friendly. The only downside is the language barrier at the hot bar. I'm so intrigued by the authentic looking food. I wish I could speak Spanish because the food looks so good! I try to ask questions and the poor girl just doesn't understand what I'm saying. I will have to drag my Spanish speaking friends with me next time so I can see what is behind the illusive hot bar. read more

As much as I hoped this would be a Trader Joe's instead, it's a decent addition to the area. I stopped in here over the weekend. I had driven by it many times since it has been open, but it always looked very crowded and I didn't particularly need anything from there. At night it is so brightly lit up like a Mardi Gras float that you are sure not to miss it! This location was formerly a Walgreen's. Walking around inside there is no trace that it ever was a Walgreen's. It's just as colorful inside as it is outside. Actually inside, you almost get the impression that you are standing in the middle of a village square somewhere in tropical South America. All around the perimeter of the store are the counters and prepared foods. The center of the store is all of the aisles of groceries and produce. The aisles are a bit on the tight side, so it's a little difficult with a cart. There is a panaderia that displayed many pretty looking desserts and breads. The carniceria and mariscos counter featured a nice looking selection of all kinds of meats and seafoods. There is also a counter where you can buy plate meals and choose your selections. In the corner is a Moneygram area to pay bills and wire money. They have a decent selection of items throughout the store. It's pretty much a mini grocery store. I was surprised to see they carried a particular soy milk that we like that is sometimes hard to find. The prices vary. I think for the most part they are reasonable. I don't see this as being a place I will frequent on a regular basis. But, if I need a specialty item or soy milk, I would definitely stop in. read more

This isn't what I expected, but the selection and prices were still good. I expected to see lots of imported items... there were a few. For example, the large Mexican coca-colas in glass bottles were there, but the smaller cokes were the regular ones you would buy in any grocery. If you've been to Mexico or had Mexican coca-cola, you know it is very different from the coke bottled in the US. They had a huge selection of pastries and meats that were Latin. I had some churros and Tres Leches that was delicious. They do have a few exotic fruits and vegetables you can't find at your everyday grocery. Some of my purchases included: star fruit, yucca, and prickly pear. My SO and I were very dissapointed that they did not carry the Mexican cheetos he had purchased on his last business trip to Mexico. The store itself was very clean and the employees were friendly; however, it's a little far for me to do regular grocery shopping there. I'm happy to know it exists if I'm looking for a few extra Mexican touches, but most of the things I can do without or enjoy when I eat out at Mexican or latin-inspired restaurants. read more

I adore this market! As soon as you walk in, the bakery case is right there. It is bright and beautiful, and everything looks delicious. In addition to regular cakes, desserts and breads they have Latin ones which look amazing. There is tons of choice. As you keep walking, there is a hot food bar that looks and smells amazing. It is a bit overwhelming because the menu is set over the middle of the food, but if you just stand back and look for a minute you should be good to go. The produce section is next and it is beautiful. They have everything you find in a regular grocery, plus things I've only seen there. I love it! The isles are fun- again a mix of the usual and the imported/unusual. But my absolute favorite part is the meat counter. The meats are gorgeous and the prices are great. This is definitely a place to at least check out once if you have never been! read more

I have to say I have been hearing about this Ideal for a while now. I drove past it and decided to make a U and come check it out. Jaw dropping!!! It's huge. I'm used to going to the one in the midcity area so this one was like comparing apples and bananas. I love the variety of Latin American product they bring to the table. Their meat department offered so much. (I was even shocked to see they offered fresh seafood!) Their bakery...heaven on Earth!!! They even have cakes, but lots and lots of cakes! Wow! Just wow..... I walked around for a while and got to the admire the fresh fruit, frozen area, spices, even toiletries, etc. Being from Central America I have to say this is truly a piece from home. I hate going to this Rouses location. Every time I go it seems to be around 5:30- 6 in the evening. Every time I go they maybe have three cashiers open. I just went in and had to wait almost 45 minutes to check out in one of the three open lanes. Then I asked an employee to call the manager to ask what was going on, she says that it's no good to call him he doesn't do anything anyway and he only has three people on the registers. Which that makes no sense, being at the most slammed part of the day only having three cashiers. Mind you, the manager was nowhere to be found because his employees didn't think there was a point in calling him. People leaving groceries and walking out, I almost did so myself. There were at least 35 people waiting in one line no joke. If their employees are too lazy, or their manager is too inept to schedule people during busy times, maybe they should follow Walmart suit and get self-checkouts. I will never go back to this location unless the other Rouses have burnt to the ground and this is the last one there is... then I'd probably skip it anyway. The parking lot is a joke you can't even get in it, so if I were you I would keep going. read more

Why after so many years, has ideal market on airline kept this rude, incompetent assistant manager named Alfredo as their employee, is a good guess for me. My wife insisted that I give this place another try since her and my daughter have stopped a couple of times during the week and had met a new assistant manager by the name of Jose who is the quite the opposite. Not only did Jose made sure I left the store happy and satisfied but he apologized for the past run-ins with some of the staff including another assistant manager. I dont know if that was part of his training, his experience or what but it was obvious that the guy was very sincere and made sure that my family and I leave with a new perspective of the store. I dont know if you are going to see this or not Jose but I wanted to thank you for your professionalism, your understanding and your sincere apology on behalf of ideal market. Because of you, my businesses and my employees will one again do business with your store. As for whoever is in charge of the store on a corporate level, retrain, give people skills, teach customer service or just plainly get rid of the person who is hurting your business. I feel compelled to tell the Yelp community about this gem ! Great market with great products, hot food and fresh cut meats ! I didn't mention the music, that's great too ! A supervisor of mine has raved about the chicharons and I finally had the chance to try them out ! They come in huge pieces. They are giant cracklins some with more meat on them than others, none the less all very tasty. Large variety of coconut waters as well as other agua Fresca flavors.
