Oriental Trading is extremely quick in receiving payment and yet prolongs intentionally the arrival of any purchase made. Beware when attempting to cancel your order, you will be declined even if has been only seconds, you will need to wait for the unwanted order to arrive in 10 business days, only to ship it back for OT to receive in 4 regular ordinary days. You will need to call OT endlessly to receive your refund. The customer service dept offers very poor communication, nobody seems to know anything about anything, I have called nine times to inquire about my refund and receive a DIIFERENT STORY each time I have called. When you reach out to them you get AI & this is their response. "I apologize for the inconvenience regarding your package. The current status indicates that it is scheduled for redelivery, but I do not have specific information on the exact date of the next delivery attempt. Since you mentioned that your address is correct, I will need to delegate this issue to the appropriate assistant to handle it further. Please hold on for a moment." No one ever came on line... Ordered some self painting ornaments for our company event next week (December 8th-12th). The shipping notification told me they were delivered today at 10:16 am and left at the front door or porch. We are a company, no front porch here and why would they not bring it into the front office? In either case, the package was not delivered. I called the USPS to verify the tracking and they confirmed it was delivered...to a different location altogether and to someone with a different name, claiming this was not their issue but DHL's issue. I called Oriental Trading and they verified the address I provided was the one my order was shipped and to call DHL. I called DHL who claimed they only ship to the address on the label which comes from Oriental Trading. I'm most disheartened to learn that not one of these entities was willing to step up and take accountability for whatever error created the mis-shipped goods. While Oriental Trading agreed to reship my order, they were now out of stock. They did, at my encouragement and not their recommendations, locate a similar style of ornament for our company function and will ship it for arrival on Tuesday of next week. They saved a little face. They are shipping free of charge. This is not the point. Fast forward four decades or so and a search for mass quantities of cheap plastic Easter eggs led me to the modern digital incarnation of the OT, a company that I had long thought defunct. They had the eggs and... the umbrellas and handcuffs were just where I left them forever etched in cheese-laden posterity. Only now, much to my surprise, this tribute to novelty obsolescence is owned by Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway. Who knew there was such profit lurking under their mountains of disposable junk? I looked at the BBB website and many, many people have had the same issue. Sneaky Oriental Trading Company has a "Fun" program that they charge you $14.95 a month and I was inadvertently enrolled in it during my last purchase. Foolish on their part because now I'm afraid to order anything from them again. I'm sure I'm not alone and they've probably lost a good deal of business for their unethical practices. I noticed an out of the blue charge yesterday of $14.95 and had it cancelled and a refund was on the way. Today I see an additional charge of $14.95 from them. They said there was nothing they could do and my "Fun" account was closed. Such a huge headache for trying to rip off customers. AWFUL! Only saw a "track package" icon on the website in my order page but when hit the icon it brought me to UPS website with an error. Figured will just wait until the estimated delivery day to check it again. On the D-day no package arrived, decided to try the icon again and received the same response. I have been ordering from Oriental Trading Company since I was a little kid. (My parents did it when I was a child). They have unique party supplies and hard to find items. I found the website to be rather poorly designed. They had technical difficulties on the day I filled my cart and couldn't accept gift cards. So I had to come back the next day and place the order. Problem is.. The cart was gone. I wasted an hour finding my cart again. All the customer service rep could say was "we can't help". Then the order shipped. It indicated that the order was "partially shipped". So I asked the rep what didn't ship. It appeared that everything did ship. However on a big order it is difficult to judge (There are so many items). The customer service rep said "website glitch" and I should cross reference my original order against what was shipped. She didn't have it anymore. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE! The excuses from customer service were utterly garbage. If my experience was better there I would have rated much better. Pros: Good selection Unique items Fun for a party Cons: Shipping takes forever, so you have to spring for expedited shipping. This is an OK website to buy items for special events. They sell stuff for birthday parties, weddings, Christmas parties, baby showers, etc. They offer a wide selection of Halloween costumes as well. Oriental Trading usually has a lot of good sales. They give free shipping when you spend a certain amount of $ at times. They also apply discounts to your orders. I got $10 off my order and free shipping. I bought some pins, snacks and other goodies. I received my items four days after I placed the order. That was pretty fast imo. One of my items was missing. I immediately called to let them know. The customer service was quick and efficient. They took my call fast and said they would send me my item ASAP. No apology but they handled it fast. It wasn't her fault, anyway. I'm waiting for the item right now. I'm sure it will be here before my event. Some of the items they sell aren't the best quality. Some of it looks flimsy or as if it can break if you barely touch it. On the other hand, some of it is pretty good quality. Would I buy from them again? I think so.
