I had no idea this store started in a basement in Elkhorn, Nebraska and specialized in magnetic toys through online sales. How far they have come! I was chasing Nebraska Passport stops and decided to buy a gift for my grandson while checking in with my Passport. It's an amazing store filled with unusual and affordable toys for all ages. The person who stamped my Passport took me around the shop showing me sensory toys(a big thing right now) building toys and of course books. I picked a book because it's easy to take in a suitcase when I go visit. That was just a sample. When you bring your kids in, they can play with a number of toys set up for "try before you buy". This was a win-win all around because as a Nebraska Passport holder, I got to play Plinko and won a nice gift card. I highly recommend this store. read more

I placed an order online for a toy (air toobz!) that was on back order. I added in notes that I'm hoping to have it before my 3 year old's 24 hour EEG on December 9th. I was surprised to get a call that same afternoon to let me know when the toy was due in stock, and that I would have it well in advance of my kiddos hospital day. I've honestly never had this level of service when ordering online - I would highly recommend Fat Brain Toys when you have Christmas, a holiday, birthday etc. I hope to be able to visit the store in person the next time I'm in the Omaha area. read more

I was just asking and approached it very casually since some places will do this. The person I spoke to was pretty rude about me asking and told me "that's not how things work, if so everyone would be calling for a discount". When placing my order they give specific dates when it will be delivered, not estimates. I paid an extra $45 to have it overnighted by 10:30 am. They didn't ship the toy till the morning it was to be delivered. When I called customer service to get a partial refund on the shipping cost, they basically called me a lier. They said they don't ship past 3 pm on Fridays and not on the weekends and would look into why their page stated the dates that were provided to me...I doubt they will. They wouldn't provide any refund because they still have to eat the cost. But why should I have to eat the cost for their page providing me false info. Just terrible customer service. read more

The best mom I know buys most of her toys from here and after eyeing a specific toy at her house I finally went in with my son on a Saturday evening. The store is so bright and clean (again Saturday evening could have something to do with that) only one other person was there so I felt really comfortable letting my son play with all the displays. I was kindly assisted to the toy I was looking for quick and decided to keep letting my little guy play. I didn't feel any pressure or anything to purchase and leave. We ended up getting a couple more toys for him. The staff is super friendly and they offer events a couple times a week which is awesome. My kids always enjoy stopping here. This place is full of fun toys, many of which are designed to engage the Brain in some way. You will not find many things here at say target or Walmart. Today we attended their Unicorn Party. They had 2 "Real" unicorns for your kids to take pictures with. There were several tables setup with Toys to try out and Hyvee was there with cookies to decorate. They were also running 10% off everything so we did walk out with a few toys for the kiddos. If you are looking for toys that have an educational twist to them (your kids will probably not realize that they are learning) this is a great place to go! read more

I'm one of those aunts that loves to buy gifts that are either educational, secretly have something to do with science or math, include cute/realistic animals, remind me of my childhood toys, or are hand crafted out of wood by small US-based companies... or some combination of all the above. So by the time Bill recently called up his sister to ask what one of the nieces wanted and got the answer of 'mermaid Barbie' we were already at Fat Brain, as we have been several times before - after I ordered from them online only to realize later they're in Omaha. Needless to say... said niece was not amused with the 'world of water' science experiment kit I got for her. But hey, they aren't all winners right? Due to having a similar address with a Chicago public school, I tend to receive some of the catalogs meant for teachers. That's how I came across them in the beginning. The marketing and analytics of their products is what caught my eye. It's a different approach to buying. Online, a customer can view based on the age and gender of the child. The site offers line and bar graphs indicating the ages most appropriate for the toy and those (reported by users) that enjoy the item most. Toys aren't necessarily designated to any one gender since they host analytics for both. Then, one can surf reviews for a better feel of the product. This has helped sway my purchasing towards products of educational or modeling capacity. For instance I have a 3 year old niece that behaves like Bam Bam from the Flinstones. With that said, she likes toys she can "roughhouse" with. Surfing reviews I can get a feel of how other kids are using them and get some useful info that will help in my decision making. We love coming to this store for unique and fun toys in so many different styles. Stopped in the other day and we kept hearing someone coughing loudly. My family kept looking at each other like who is coughing so much in public?! So we looked around and it was an employee. Overall, I think this is a great place for engaging and age appropriate toys. Most of the pricing is a bit proud, but grandma and grandpa don't flinch when December rolls around. Our kiddos received four Xmas gifts that weren't a great fit. When we went to return the toys for a store credit, the older gal with a sweet 80s skate boarder haircut proceeded to tell me how these were great toys and they shouldn't be returned. After we said we know what types of toys our kids like to play with, she then started to tell me about each toy individually and why it should be kept. Christmas morning and the little guy is tearing through packages before we can see what goes where. The dog strolls past with two big squishy cubes in his mouth that we assume are the hosting house's cat toys. Sure enough we discover the giant dice belong to our new Sturdy Birdy Game from Fat Brain Toys. With the dice chewed up, we could only stand on one foot with our arms out. We contacted the Fat Brain Customer Desk for spare parts and received a replacement set a couple of days later! One of the coolest toy companies around. This is a fun place! As a kid I remember this store being here and if I ever got a toy from here it was always so fun! Now as an adult I'm always looking for educational and fun toys for my niece, and this store is filled with them for kids of all ages! However I have noticed you can get the same toys on amazon sometimes for a few dollars cheaper and with free shipping, but I don't like to wait for delivery so I just pay the extra, in my mind it's a convenience fee for being able to see the item in person and not having to wait a few extra days for delivery. The store was very busy when I went on this past Friday morning, I couldn't even get to the back of the store if I tried, but luckily I knew what I was getting and it was up front. Awful customer service! I called to get an order straight that had been messed up online. The agent was pretentious and rude! In fact I've never been talked to like this from a rep at a company! She kept telling me she was SO literate that she didn't need me to spell my recipients address, nor did she want to read back my credit card number etc!!! I was beginning to think this may be fraudulent, I have only ordered once before many years ago. After writing my comments in an email the same agent I'd spoken to phoned me!! I have not come in here without finding something for anyone on my list! Not only is this place the best for the diversity of toys they offer, they have superb customer service as well! Wow, I didn't realize they had a physical store. This review is for the online site. The online experience is pretty good compared to similar website. It's not as cluttered and I like how you can specify the age and price. This is perfect for situations where you're on a strict budget. But little touches like the packaging and even the confirmation emails make this a joy to shop. Customer service is top notch. The inventory seems to be more geared toward science-based toys. I can understand that some of these might be more expensive that what you can find at a big-box. However, I don't think you can find most of these there. I have ordered from Fat Brain toys before and was satisfied. I ordered several items from them for my grandkids Christmas. I ordered it and put in my debit card number and where to ship it, which was the same as before. Checked my email and instead of a confirmation, there was a note that a customer service representative could complete my order. I called the number and spoke with a woman. She said that they had some network problems. Which tells me that it was the website that had the issue. But now, the order is not guaranteed to get to my grandkids by Christmas. I pleaded with the woman that since I had put in all my information, that Fat Brain should upgrade my shipping so that my grandkids could have their presents for Christmas. She refused saying that since my items were still in my shopping cart that my order didn't go through, that that they would not guarantee it's delivery by Christmas. I also asked to speak to a Manager. She wouldn't let me speak to her nor did she budge on the upgrade. I wouldn't give up! after my third call I asked to speak to a Supervisor or Manager! After waiting I gave my # for a manager to return my call. Surprise! A very nice lady called me back and took my order and upgraded my order to 3 day so that my grandchildren will have their presents by Friday before Christmas! They regain my support! read more

My nephew just turned 7 and is starting to enjoy puzzles. I hadn't heard of Fat Brain Toys before but I decided, for his birthday, I'd give them a try and ordered the puzzle that would allow him to spell his name. When I placed the order online, I typed too fast, not realizing that the puzzle would come with his name misspelled. Not only that but I placed the order online so that it could be directly delivered to my sister who resides in Washington State. I was so disappointed when she called me to tell me the puzzle had arrived but with my nephew's name misspelled. I contacted Fat Brain Toys the very next day to let them know about the error and they responded to my email with in 24-hours. They resolved the matter within 1-5 business days from that email. I paid an additional $19.00 which was the price for my mistake. The ladies who helped me were so responsive and understanding. I hope to purchase from Fat Brain Toys again. read more

Horrible customer service. DON'T PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE!!! They advertise Unconditional 100% satisfaction. I purchased a $270 robotic drone for my son for Christmas. His main gift !!! My son opened the box and there it sat in the box for a week. I knew this was not for him. He would have built it immediately. He is in robotics and participates in competitions. This is not what we expected and are completely unsatisfied. I shipped it back exactly as Fat Brain requires in the original box and now they will only give me store credit. There is nothing in there store I would buy again. My son was waiting for the return money so he could by a Lego set for his Christmas present.
