If you can, stay in the Beach Hose rooms - located a short walk from the main hotel. They are on the banks of Loch Lomond itself with great views. Large size suites with all mod cons and fairly well furnished. The restaurant / bar in the main hotel is called Mr C's Fish and Whisky bar. 200 odd whiskies, usual beers and lagers, plus lots of fresh fish. It was awarded AA pub of the year for Scotland 2009 - 2010. I spoilt my time there by eating deep fried haggis in batter - gave me full-on food poisining for a week! Not a pleasant experience. Avoid this and stick to the fish / meat and you should be OK. Overall I wont downgrade it too much as a result of this, because of its great location and loads of good hikes around the area.

The hotel has recently been refurbished and looks fantastic. The food was superb. We had fish and chips, calamari and chowder, all very good. Unfortunately they had run out of oysters and langoustine which was disappointing. But never mind, the food was excellent. They also had a really well stocked bar with real ale and a great selection of whisky. The bar man seemed very knowledgeable about the whisky too which is great. The room was nice, the only problem was that we had no heating for the whole night. It was a very cold night and we were freezing. However, I mentioned this to the manager and he was fantastic at sorting it out and asked us to come back to the hotel another night. So all in all, I was very satisfied with our stay. Very romantic and relaxing. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Loch Lomond.

Landlords: great bunch, very friendly; welcoming and talkative, but also understand that as soon as you are in you want a shower and a cup of tea. We travelled by car -- plenty of spaces. Though a bit more than my budget - we accepted -- Sheildaig Farm B&B is absolutely adorable - a lovely stone building with 3 rooms sits across from the main building (with more rooms inside) and a gorgeous little breakfast area. Our room was a small double - but it had all the comforts we have come to expect with a typical en suite room in England & Scotland: extra blankets, electric kettle and assorted teas/instant coffee, large clean towels, tv, alarm clock and even an electric blow dryer! This little room was very tastefully decorated with an iron bedframe, black-on-white paisley decorator wallpaper, a pair of armchairs. There was even a small fridge, toaster and microwave in the little dry-bar area. There were fantastic skylights in the room - and Lesley showed me how to use a long pole to close the built in retracting shades to keep from frying like a vampire at dawn . Lesley asked me what we pair of vegans would like for breakfast - I provided a carton of tofu and in the morning - she personally made us the best tofu scramble my mom and I have ever had! Butternut squash, tomatoes, mushrooms and onions - perfectly seasoned. She also serves darned good OJ there and we had a really fantastic breakfast. Lesley also directed me to a nearby trail for my run in the morning and it was really lovely to run on dirt tracks and away from any traffic at all. I had the hills above Loch Lomond all to myself -- that was really a treat. Great B&B, warm and excellent service -- I highly recommend Sheildaig Farm B&B and would happily return.

We were in communication with Lesley and although she was out running errands when we arrived, she left the keys and instructions, so we had no problems getting into our accommodations, The Cameron Cottage. The drive up is a little narrow and scary. Once we drove it the first time, it wasn't a big deal later in the day. Definitely arrive during the daylight, so that you can see where you're driving and keep an eye out for signage, as it is a bit hard to see. I never felt like our car was going to get damaged, just that it was bumpy and narrow. The rooms are very cute and filled with basically ever amenity to make our stay comfortable- kettle, microwave, toaster, nice linens, great smelling soap and shampoo...there was even a stack of entertainment gossip magazines, which is a guilty pleasure of mine and I really enjoyed! We didn't meet Lesley until the morning. She had stopped by in the evening to say "Hi" but we mistook her knocking for a noise outside and didn't open the door until she had already left. I wish that we had met her the evening before, as she was super friendly and welcoming. The place has an overall nice vibe! Breakfast was wonderful. The Breakfast area feels more like a restaurant than a B&B. The tables were set up in a room with floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking their back garden. Very pretty! The food was delicious too. There was a cold bar with cereals, juice and yogurt. Lesley also did made-to-order breakfasts. We really enjoyed our stay at Sheildaig Farm and recommend it to those visiting the area.

One of the owners, Frances, is also a beautiful artist and creates gorgeous paintings, you will NEED to check them out when visiting. She also has a beautiful path behind the hotel that will lead you up to her garden that she maintains herself. It's so fun that this hotel has a bar downstairs and a restaurant at the other end, I even believe there is an ice cream shop a few steps away outside. Everything you need is here for a relaxing getaway. We cannot wait to go back someday.

In the evenings the hotel is popular with locals who gather in the bar for a blether around the stove whilst the lounge is available for those who prefer a more comfortable surroundings. In the past I have found the staff to be somewhat stand off-ish and faces have been as varied as their selection of beverages, although this may have changed since I last visited.

If Cameron House is tartaned up to the eyeballs, The Boat House takes its influence from across the pond (a bigger one than the loch it's situated beside) with a New England nautical style. Very pretty and a lot more relaxed and informal than the hotel. Glass walls giving you alternate views of the loch, the golf course and the yachts. I counted...one two three A LOT of yachts. Best to go on a sunshiney day with all these windows! Okay, on to the food now. i'm a veggie and somehow that makes me difficult to please. Chefs of the world, take note: we eat more than goat's cheese and pastry! Er...so I started with some goat's cheese, but I think if you are a fish fan this is definitely the plaice (ahahaha. ha. hm) to go. There were cockles and mussels by the bucketload. Pizzas looked amazing, thin and crispy and hot out the woodburning stove. I wish I'd got one of them for my main. But I didn't, I ended up with some more cheese and vegetables with some salad leaves. Everyone else's main courses got the two thumbs up though. Highlights were my non alcoholic (I was driving!) berry surprise cocktail and the awesome peanut butter and chocolate icecream I had with my all American apple pie. If all the food leaves you feeling roly poly full, you can go for a wander round the loch to work it off or have a wee snooze in the sun on one of the benches. I'll go back for the pizzas next time.

Walking into the bar area, I could have thought I was walking into a giant luxurious living room in Town & Country. The food was delicious - portions were large, and although I can't remember what it was I ordered, I remember being thrilled by the location almost as much as the food!

This was the setting for my sisters 50th birthday meal, and what a great setting it was…read more We arrived a little early to deck out the table and area with a couple of balloons and banner, the staff couldn't have been more helpful allowing us to sort it all out before the guest of honour arrived. This done we waited on the rest of the party in the residents lounge, where there were plenty of comfy seats and tables in the conservatory with a well stocked bar (a plethora of whiskeys on offer as befits a bar not far from the ferry terminal over to Islay and Jura) just off it with craft beers etc. On the arrival of the rest of the party while we sorted out drinks in the lounge the waitress dished out menus and after a suitable time perusing, took the order for the meal, allowing us a little time to catch up before informing us that the starters were ready and allowing us to decant to the table in the other end of the conservatory. Bright and spacious surroundings in the restaurant and comfortable seating make this a pleasant place to be. The food was superb starters consisted of scallops which were seared to perfection on black pudding, pulled pork on a black pudding with a poached egg on top and all cooked perfectly. Mains were Fish and chips with a healthy bit of fish and chunky cut chips, rump frites again a perfectly seared and not insubstantial lump of rump and skinny fries, mac and cheese with the option of spicy sausage through it, creamy and delicious, rib eye steak again juicy, beautifully prepared and with sides of mushrooms and vine tomatoes. Deserts were rather good as well, all in all a fantastic unrushed night and great company in clean, comfortable surroundings.

Most folks know of this place through its proximity to the West Highland Way. I first found out about it by an arrow painted on a rock as we scrambled our way next to Loch Lomond. There is a small trail just outside the door that connects to the West Highland way and will get you there in minutes. I would say that if you were not fussed about walking the full length of this multi-day hike, settle yourself in here at the Hostel and walk the the nearby parts of the West Highland along with the other numerous trails in the area. It is not a bad way to do it. I arrived with 60 people for a whisky weekend and this place surprised me. They have a full shop with everything you need for a decent lunch which you can make up in the self-catering kitchen. If you are not up for cooking for yourself, there is a cold and hot breakfast and an evening dinner served everyday. If you combine this, with the network of backpack carrying services that run up and down the West Highland way, walking this trail now seems much more pleasant. In addition, you can grab a beer from the shop and just enjoy the fantastic evening sunsets - just bring your midge spray, This hostel also serves as a stop for the Cruise Loch Lomond ferries that transport people up and down the loch. An excellent way to get to the Hostel and a very pleasant journey. So, if you want to experience the Scottish landscape, Rowardennan SYHA is a great opportunity for everyone.

Plenty of amenities at this hostel, but just cause you have more doesnt mean its done right. Hostel is beautifully located right off the Loch. Great to just hang out and watch the sunset. Beds felt fine, but i couldnt tell if they were clean or not as the rooms were dim and the sheets were blue. I did wake up itchy, but i dunno if it was the bed or the crappy shower i took. The rooms were also stuffy as the windows did not really open. only 2 electrical outlets in the mens bunkroom for 8 people! There were alot of amenities like i mentioned but most of them were just poorly done. I paid for dinner, breakfast and a coke. my friend ordered dinner, breakfast and tea. I got charged for the tea also and the coke. Plus my friend got charged for the tea. The receptionist seemed to be high or totally out of it. i reminded him of the coke and he was like "oh yea...". Ok whatever, im tired i didnt want to deal with this. I went to get my dinner (had to wait 45 mins). Staff told me that they didnt have salad anymore. i told them, "i paid for the salad, can i get a substitute then?". she said no. hmm I guess this place is going to rip me off. So we walked off with the food then she told us "you cannot take that outside, we are not license to serve food outside". really, i bought the food from the hostel and im not allow to eat it outside? then another staff yelled out, "yes you can eat outside". I wanted to use the wifi, then found out I had to pay. Ok, laundry? got to pay. Towel for shower, got to pay. Pretty much if you want to do anything in this hostel, you got to pay, where these amenities are included in most hostels or just require a deposit so you dont steal their stuff. for the price of the night plus food its on par with a B&B (which will provide you better everything) breakfast was plentiful but was half assed cooked. food was premade and kept under a heat lamp. but we still had to wait 10-15 mins for them to scoop food and bring it to you. food tasted bland and scone was mushy and oily. oh yea, shower was the worst shower on the west highland way. barely a drip out of the shower head. i barely felt cleaner afterwards. door to one of the mens toilet didnt even close properly.
