We stayed in the Stewart room, on the upper floor, with a beautiful view over Loch Gilp. It was pretty rainy the day we stayed, but when the sun came out the view was incredible. The bed was comfortable and quiet. The one part of the room/stay we didn't really enjoy was the electric shower, which was either scalding or cold. But other than that, the room was great. The hosts, Philip and Caroline, were outstanding. We had breakfast in the dining room and talked with Caroline about the area and things to do for the day, as well as spoke with the only other guest in the house. Breakfast was delicious, including fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, and hot food. Additional great aspect of this B&B? They don't accept children, so if you are a couple looking for a nice place to stay, this is a wonderful option. We highly recommend this spot!

Storm, Power Outage, No Stay -- and Still No Refund…read more Review: I booked The Galley of Lorne Inn through Expedia on 4 October 2025, about an hour before arriving. At that time, the property was already without power because of a regional storm, something that was not disclosed when booking. When we arrived that evening, the hotel was completely dark and inoperable--no lighting, heat, or functioning facilities. Staff on site were courteous and confirmed the property had no electricity and could not accommodate guests that night. We therefore had no option but to leave and book another hotel in Oban. Since then, I've contacted both Expedia and the hotel multiple times. Expedia informed me they reached the property and that the owner refused to authorize a refund, citing a "non-refundable" policy even though the stay could not take place. What's worse, staff later told Expedia they were not allowed to confirm the power outage publicly and that only the owner could speak--yet he has ignored repeated calls and emails. To be clear: this is not a complaint about bad weather. It's about a business refusing to refund money for a service it could not provide, and a lack of transparency that leaves guests stranded. I have travelled internationally for decades and have never encountered a property that both failed to deliver a stay and then refused to take responsibility. This situation is ongoing, but travelers deserve to know what happened. Until this issue is resolved, I strongly recommend avoiding this property. Scotland's hospitality industry is built on honesty, and this experience was the complete opposite.
