Since I wrote the original review in 2014, I've purchased a number of hand-made Orox items, both online and within this Chinatown store. The quality of their goods remains high and their transition into more higher end goods is noted. I still value some of the canvas-themed goods that they used to sell that are still going strong. My Son and I stopped in a few days ago, and I immediately noticed that the workshop had expanded and their counter has moved 90 degrees for display. The shop still has its friendly family feel and great leather eye candy. My Son ended up with a belt and I purchased a neat little key holder. I stopped into their store today to purchase a leather belt for myself. The customer service, helpfulness, product quality and overall welcoming atmosphere CANNOT be understated. They let me check out the workshop, made a belt size for me that was in a color that was not on the floor and offered to have it ready same day... then came over to tell me when I was next door at Deadstock getting a drink that my new belt was ready for pickup! Absolutely mind blowing how kind and attentive they were. They care so much about their craft and experience. Among the best shops I have ever set foot into in Portland. Soooo I brought this over the shoulder soft black leather bag in April of 2024 at the night market, the owner tells me that I can get the strap lengthened no problem as long as I bring it by their shop, so I did, a week later I pick it up. It look fine, mind you I haven't used it. The nice person gives me a bag to it. By June I haven't used it, when I do the bag blue green color spots and scratches on it. I'm like weird, never had this happen on a leather "quality "bag! I reach out via email and get a response a few days later stating I need to use a wax on it and that normal use the leather "sometimes " gets faded! I'm like wait a minute I used this bag once and this is what happens on a bag of $350! So I replied and said that this is crazy that I'm getting a response like this. I then get an email from the owner and he tells me that he will do what ever he can and just bring the bag in and they will take care of it. Well that was a change from the first response, but when I emailed him back to say that I no longer is in Portland and if I could mail it to them.... I get crickets !!! Nothing!!! I will never buy a bag from this place again! I even told friends about this place, now I told them what had happened and now locals are disappointed with this business and their costumer service. This place is awesome, literally couldn't have had a better experience. This is a family owned leather shop and I think they told me they are a fourth generation leather working family. The shop is setup really cool with all the stuff they make out for display and the family on the other side of the counter creating more great pieces. I went to Oregon Leather across the street before coming in here, this place beats it hands down. Great customer service and you can see the passion in the items they are making. It was also cool how they had used items, next to their new counterparts, so you can see how they wear over time. With quality leather, things get better with age, and it was cool to see a 3 year old version of the new wallet I was interested in. I found a great looking, sturdy wallet, and knew instantly it had to be mine. I bought it about 3 or so weeks ago and it's done nothing but mold to my cards, and look better and better. Did I mention they have a lifetime warranty on all their stuff? Seriously, I never write reviews, I think this is only my second one, but I had to because I was just so impressed with this place and the quality of their items. Great little leather shop with many accessories and items to buy. I didnt buy much other than some cable keepers (e.g. USB/iPhone/etc. cables). Overall leather items seem to be of good quality. The only fault I can give is that when asked about the types of leather they use, they just kept telling me leather (I was looking for specifically for a bag that was full grain leather and many items looked more like top grain / genuine leather.... there is a difference!). Nonetheless, they were friendly and not pushy about buying anything (tho I did). read more

This is an amazing store! All of their merchandise is leather and handmade right there in the shop! The products that Orox sells are durable, tough and beautiful all at the same time! I stopped in when I noticed this new leather goods store open. They make all their products in the store, the cutting and sewing area takes up half the store and is in full view of the retail area. In an era of off-shoring, that's admirable! The products are small leather goods, belts, purses, shaving bags, purses, wallets, backpacks, and handled carry bags in leather and canvas. The materials and craftsmanship seems fine. The made-in-person in Portland is a fine narrative. Staff is personable and excited about their work. The products are well displayed. But I have to say the design style is not mine. Portland is fortunate to have a great design community. And there are great design traditions in leather from Northern Italy, Switzerland, Northern Europe and Japan. (We don't talk about Southern Italian design) Then there is the current rage of New England preppy design sweeping the designosphere. If you put those designs side by side with Orox, and don't see a difference, then these designs are for you. And if you prefer the Orox design then go for it! They also have a large selection of air plants - small succulents, for your terrarium and flying planter needs. read more

Treat yo self!.... to Fine leather goods.... walking around old china town, trying to find something of interest, we stumbled on Orox. everyone was really nice, and the guys working in the shop are more than happy to stop what they're doing to help answer questions about their products. they have a lot of really interesting things in there - some really cool key chains/tethers, belts, bags, shoes, wallets, even soccer balls and footballs! they are pricey (i got a wallet for about $60), but their goods are quality. they use the same kind of leather as Red Wing, and are all dedicated to quality. the shop is owned and operated by the Martinez brothers, and they're all in there working hard on their goods. there was this one guy in there that seemed completely out of place.... clearly not one of the brothers, and i wasn't sure what his role was in there b/c the was the only one not working on something.... so... that was kind of weird.... but other than that, really great leather products, and really great service! just don't be shocked at the prices O_O read more

This place is cooler than cool. When we first happened upon it, it was closed. I figured it was a hipster-y place. But, when we finally got a chance to stop in we realized it was the real deal! They have old school leather artisans making the products right there in front of you. Marking off notches in a belt or making straps for the bags. It was so incredible! It's all high quality leather from Portland. The prices are a tad high, but you know it will last forever. They are super friendly too. An excellent business. The staff is incredibly friendly, communicative, knowledgeable and they're truly gifted at the craft of leatherwork. Only removing a star because I ordered a custom belt be made, was told what time it would be ready, and when I showed up they hadn't started it yet. They did put it on rush once they realized their error, but I did have to go wander around for 30 minutes. They say this belt will last me (well, the person I bought it for) the rest of their life, and I completely believe it. A $90 custom belt that is gorgeous, high quality, and smells amazing. I can't give this small business enough stars for customer service and quality of their leather! We love everything fro the dog collars to the purse I purchased. First of all, this was such a nice find. I hadn't heard about Orox until a friend of mine showed me her bag she bought from them. I perused their website and was convinced that I would finally invest in a good quality leather item. I went in one day to browse for my friend in San Diego. I spoke with one of the boys working there (Jose was working hard at the other side of the store) who gave me lots of information on their products. I asked if I could snap some photos to send to my friend (they said it was OK). I ended up walking away with a bag of my own. The Viator Tote (in black) is amazing: half wax (waterproof) canvas, half leather. It is large and has two large pockets inside that fits a laptop. The strap is nice leather and can handle the weight. It's perfect for school or work. I'd seen their other products at other stores (MadeHere) before and really admired the quality of their leather and canvas. Unlike the other brands sold at MadeHere, there's a stark difference in the canvas with Orox that I like more. Overall, it was such a great experience getting to know their process and understanding how well their materials hold up. I signed up online for 10% off and asked if it could apply to my in-store purchase (10% off for online purchases), which I'm glad it did. I also got an orange pouch that's perfect to carry my lunch in! I recommend this place. I say visit the other leather places but really take your time and get something here. My daughter gifted me Classic Bifold - Brown wallet on Father's Day. I love the craftsmanship and the quality of this wallet. When I tried to transfer cards and bill from old wallet, I realized that card slots are not big enough to store credit cards and driver id. I had to force it to insert into the slots. I assumed that I had a defective piece. I wrote an email to hello@oroxleather.com on July 1 to ask them if they were aware of this issue and asked them for exchanging the wallet for bigger wallet. So let me first say that I have not bought anything from here yet, but I will surely do so in the near future! Right now, my boyfriend and I are apartment hunting in Portland, as we are moving from LA. One day, while exploring the city, we came across OROX. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by one of the craftsmen who explained that everything in the store was made right there behind the counter! Very cool! When I told him that we were on a strict traveling budget and would not be able to purchase anything today, he did not treat me differently or try to get me to buy something. He was just super nice! After I questioned him, he explained to us that this trade has been passed down from several generations and that the other people working on leather right behind the counter were his dad and brother! In addition to this being one of those awesome family-owned small business run by tradition and passion, the product is dope too! They carry everything from wallets to dog leashes to iPhone accessories. And they are able to engrave it for you as well. Although I'm not the type of gal who can be buying from there often, o will definitely be back to buy my dog a collar once I move here in the fall. Don't buy from these people, the owner Jose Martinez is a scam. I ordered a belt from them for a birthday present. I ordered it in December and asked that it be ready by February. They told me that it would be ready by then and it was plenty of time to make it. Well February came around, and I had not heard anything about this being complete. I tried to call about the order and they do not return calls. My mother called also for me and they told her they did not know what the order was, we provided them with the invoice as we had paid for the product. The owner then said it was ready. We went to pick it up and they had a totally different belt. The owner argued with me and said that is what I order. I told him that it was not and that they had not even put my husband's initials on it and it was the wrong color as well as wrong belt buckle. I informed him that I purchased the same belt that the guy was wearing when I ordered. I asked if that person was working. He stated that he was not, and then suddenly that person showed up from the back. I asked if he had on the belt that I ordered that he showed me when I placed my order. The owner said, "No he did not." I asked the guy again that I initially ordered from and he showed me that he was wearing the same belt that I ordered. I asked the owner why he lied and he said that we were having a communication problem. The older man, who makes the belts, said that he could make it for us in an hour. We waited, and the belt was done so quickly that it did not last one time of wearing it. The material was so thin and it was awful. I went to the company to return the belt and they are never there. They leave signs saying they will return at a certain time, however they never come in. I finally was able to catch someone there and got my money back. It smelled like wonderful quality leather and they have an impressive display of quality bags, sandals, belts, wallets, etc. I found their prices to be very reasonable considering their competitor Tanner Goods, is double the price with a dose of pretentiousness. I definitely got the feeling that this was a family run business and sure enough, it is. I would recommend this specialty leather goods store to anyone as being of the finest quality and craftsmanship. My Fiancé purchased his wedding belt from here and is very prideful wearing a handmade product from the PNW. Plus, they're from Oaxaca, and hanging in their shop is a huge American flag.
