My first experience with demo was a painless one because of Gonzalo. Gonzalo brought 3 other men and a truck to haul away the debris. Closet is gone! They were due at 8:30 AM and arrived at 8:00 AM. They were very polite and letting me know they came early. They didn't charge extra for removing the drywall around the wooden beam on my ceiling. Cleaned up after themselves and hauled all the debris away. Initially they tried to negotiate moving my stacked washer dryer. When I said no and offered my painters blanket to cover the machines, they agreed. And they carefully removed the wall surrounding the washer driver, in an area where they easily could've refused to try to work around the appliances. They made it work and did an excellent job. Gonzalo and his company did a demolition on our kitchen for us. The first thing we noticed when they left was that a collectors plate of mine had been broken..They moved it to a table that had all of our kitchen stuff on it so we wouldn't see it right away. We would have let that go but then we noticed one of our hammers and a really great staple gun we had was missing from outside where the guys were cleaning up. Very prompt in answering when I called initially. Showed up on time with three guys. One of them is the father who's in his 40's. The son is in his 20's and he's the one who answers all the calls. Definitely polite at first. Since it is COVID PANDEMIC time, I asked that they wear a mask. The workers came ready to work. I asked if they have shoe covers? They said no. So, do they expect to walk all over my new hardwood floors with their shoes on? I asked if they have a mat to put down? They said no. Asked if they have something to cover my white couch and bed? They said no. The Dad called his son immediately he responded to me that I would have to pay extra for protective gear. Huh? What the heck? They were prepared to walk away and not do the job. I spent my time to meet up with them and instantly without any floor mat or shoe covers, they were going to abandon the job but not even to reschedule. The son got annoyed and said he was busy and couldnt talk to me. I mentioned to him if I hired him as a gardener, would he expect to come to work but expect me to supply him with a lawnmower each time? Anyway, I wasnt about to let them go without doing the work. I had to flip over my expensive carpet runners and let them walk on it.
