Dr. Porter did outstanding work with both shoulder replacements needed by my husband. I was present for the meetings Russ had with Dr. Porter. The detailed attention, compassion, expertise and professionalism combined, at end of the surgeries, to result in 100% repair of both shoulders. Dr. Porter pays extremely close attention when asking questions to diagnose. Recently, I injured my shoulder resulting in massive and relentless pain. Dr. Porter's staff worked me in to the schedule immediately. While I had to wait, it was clearly worth doing that rather than see another doctor. Knowing his success rate and expertise, that was an easy choice. I realize the office can be busy and 'things happen'- but the staff has always worked with us to consistently and immediately satisfy complicated out of state paperwork requirements. Most importantly, Dr. Porter is truly a gifted and compassionate man who has provided consistently outstanding results. read more

Let's start with a big shout out to phone, desk and nursing staff. You are terrific, kind, helpful and friendly. Not to pleased with the PA who seemed uninterested in my past history and did not also show any interest of what another Doctor thinks I may have going on. After waiting 2 hours it was a one way street with him. Do steroid's or I'll just pass the buck to another Doctor. Didn't seem interested that my mri ( results not in yet) results could confirm something else. Nor did I appreciate the condescending eye rolling as I explained why I was unable to use certain medications. Definitely not a practice of Doctors that like to get to the root cause of your pain. First off, I worked in medicine for 10+ yrs previously. The quality of the staff here is horrible. Was not greeted with a smile or a hello. I had to ask to be checked in then was given paperwork with a grunt and a scowl. 2nd. Saw Dr. Song for a trampoline injury to my neck. Dr. Song introduced himself asked what happened. Tapped me a few places with a reflex hammer, without saying a word. Took me into the hall to show me one of my 3 X-rays taken. Said nothing is broken, I wont need surgery, and that my spine was straight due to muscle tension. Told me to take a steroid pack and do 6-8 weeks of physical therapy. There was no information given as to what to do about the pain. Hot/cold compresses? After care instructions....nothing. No explanation of what I did to my neck or explanation of how the physical therapy would help. After Dr. Song left (5min appt) I asked the M.A who walked me out why I would need physical therapy (to try to get more information). He said "In case you need surgery further down the road, than Ins will pay for it" huh? Dr. Songs bedside manner is definitely lacking. Since working in medicine I understand how some Dr's are that way. Which means the staff assisting should help to close up the appt answering any and all unanswered questions from the patient. That was not done. I could only get one question in with Dr. Song. Who's face turned red when asked. How dare I right? Was never asked by Dr. Or M.A. if I had any questions. After doing some of my own research. A straight spine means the patient has whiplash and Excercise or P.T. is DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED until the area heals. If the area is damaged during healing THAN surgery is NEEDED. Now it makes a sense as to why my appt was so short and was advised to work out an already stressed neck. Dr. Edward Song OrthoArizona 1675 E. Melrose St., Ste 101, Gilbert, AZ 85297 03/10/22 I can accept the statistical outcomes of surgery. It varies by patient. I acknowledge that I signed consent documents that I did not read carefully enough. Had I done so, I might not have scheduled Lumbar Fusion on Dec 6, 2022. My primary complaint against this surgeon is that he did not communicate the nature of spinal surgery, (all those items in his consent forms), yet he signed a statement affirming that he had done so. That's dishonest. My secondary complaint is that he answered my questions with blunt, rude, one-liners and nothing more. (Example: during my post -op meeting I asked about weakness of my thigh muscles when rising out of a chair. His answer was "You're 71 and just had major surgery!" It was technically true, but there was no further explanation.) I learned later from another doctor how nerves and muscles are affected in this surgery. A responsible doctor would have handed me the 4-page consent forms during my pre-op meeting for me to take home and read. Before the procedure I had a pain level of 4. Since December 6th, I've had constant pain at level 5 and 6. (Three months at this writing.) HIPAA Violation When I left the exam room after my pre-op visit, I saw several of my signed documents on the counter, unattended, and in public view. read more

Our initial experience when trying to make an appointment with a surgeon was not a positive one because the phone lines had an issue and we couldn't reach a live person. Since getting through and scheduling an appointment with Dr. MacQueen, everything has been amazing! The staff here is really friendly and efficient. Dr. MacQueen is equally as amazing! He clearly laid out my options and took the time to explain the specifics of my situation including showing me my X-rays and explaining what I was seeing. We ended up going down the surgery route and he was great through all of it, including the followup appointments. Can't say enough good things about him and his team. So glad we found him! read more

I am trying to cancel an appointment because I found what I hope will be a better option where I can be seen more quickly. The hold time or wait time for appointment or assistance is TERRIBLE at OrthoAZ! So after being on hold for a customer representative for more than one hour, I cancelled my appointment. I typically do not leave reviews on medical service. Doctors really are under the gun, particularly when managed by a large medical corporation that pushes throughput and not service. I have a friend who really likes her orthopedic surgeon at OrthoAz and has some complicated issues and has full faith and trust in her provider. BUT this review is on support services. The previous week I left messages for the medical assistant and the PA for the MD I selected, but a week later I have not gotten a call back. I then decided on Friday at 4:45 that I had enough I was cancelling my appointment. I called the only number I had and decided rather than continuing to wait, obviously they are closed, I selected the option to get a call back on Monday but as of 3 p.m. no call. The other providing organization opens at 5 am for scheduling appointments. I got an appoint the same week as my call. At 7:45 am, I got a text and later an email confirming my appointment. I received NOTHING from OrthoArizona about my appointment. By 10 am the other providing organization sent me a text and email to do a pre-check-in, giving me time to carefully fill out allergies and medication questions. Some of my prescriptions were already filled in and just needed verification which means they are using a database to gather my info--efficient. After I have my appointment at the other provider, maybe I will be able to write a nice review. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Ganesh on July 2nd. He prescribed a knee injection that needed insurance approval. My insurance usually approves things within 5 days. However, they did not even bother to submit anything to my insurance until July 18th. Insurance approved the injection the same day but no one at OrthoArizona bothered to follow up and check the system for the approval. I even called to follow up after I was notified by my insurance that the injection was approved. I was told the injection coordinator would call me back, but I never received a phone call from her. I had to spend an hour and a half on the phone today before anyone would actually talk to me about it. In the meantime, I've had to deal with daily pain, impaired function and several falls (one of which resulted in a head injury) due to my knee issue. There was a complete failure on the part of OrthoArizona. read more

What an awful place. I had an appointment and went in for a cortisone shot. I was advised I have a torn rotator cuff and needed surgery. I was told they would schedule a MRI and given a card with numbers on it to call if nobody contacted me in the next seven days. Nobody called so I called them several times to leave messages. I still have not received a call from them. Now I tried calling the following week and the phone system is not working and does not recognize the prompts I press. The medical side of the house is fine and does good work but the administration side is horrible. They definitely need to bring someone in and start over. The two people up front seem to be more concerned about eating and gossiping than customer service. read more

This has been the worst experience I've ever had with a medical staff. They don't call you back. I'm supposed to go in to get gel injected to relieve the pain from a surgery I never should have had because the results of the test were read wrong. I am now in more pain after surgery than before. I actually like Dr. Porter. Unfortunately his staff is not helpful. No one calls you back after nine phone calls. Trying to get this set before the end of the year and they do not care. In 2024, I was experiencing extreme pain in my neck. I did a Google search and found OrthoArizona. After calling and VERIFYING insurance, I made appointment to go in. Saw one "NP" who had horrible bedside manner. Said my "neck was very bad and would probably need surgery. At the time my pain level was 10. He didn't give me anything for pain because HE said it wouldn't help. A real piece of shit. So, I wound up going to my regular doctor who gave me a steroid and pain killer. I felt better within 48 hours. I then saw another OrthoArizona doctor who suggested pain point injections. I had a 15 minute consult with him. After planning procedure, I got a call from billing that they COULDN'T verify my insurance and they canceled my procedure. Mind you, I have 2 plans. They couldn't figure out the coordination of benefits. To make a longer story shorter, 1 year later, I have been receiving an invoice for $868. On the invoice there is no mention of my primary insurance which is Emblem Health. All there is, is the secondary insurance which is BlueCross/BlueShield. It showed $0 covered. I've called 10 times in 1 year and a half and each person said they would submit my claims and call me when they "figured it out." NO CALL BACK, NO FIGURING OUT ANYTHING." Received a "FINAL NOTICE" with no explanation. These people are the ABSOLUTE WORSE OF THE WORSE. They say ignorance is bliss. I say this company is utterly ignorant. STAY AWAY. read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE PLACE. I've had the worst experience with this place from. I set up an MRI appt for my son weeks prior and THE DAY BEFORE his appt they tell me I need a referral. THE DAY BEFORE??? Very unacceptable very unprofessional. I was seen by Dr Cory Nelson for a shoulder injury which was extremely painful. He only asked me to raise my arm and requested an MRI and left tIhe room. I had to call through door for the results of the xray. The MRI came back with no tear to the rotator cuff. No follow-up from the office. I called several times to setup an appointment finally got a zoom call appointment however no email or contact to get on the call. I called office again only to find out no appointment was scheduled. They quickly rescheduled for 2pm that day. Doctor didn't come on the call till 2:45pm. He recommended physical therapy. I went to another doctor who diagnoised a dislocated shoulder and reset it. read more

After recent ORIF surgery on my wrist in Illinois, I happened to be visiting Arizona and needed to schedule a post-op follow up with a local provider. This was a surprisingly challenging situation because the surgery was performed elsewhere. I found OrthoArizona online, but was hesitant because of their reviews. I took a chance, particularly because the follow up was fairly benign and scheduled an appointment online with OrthoArizona. I was able to find a slot in the upcoming week and locked it in. Upon arriving early for an 8:30am appointment, the waiting room was packed. I was worried that it would be an incredibly long wait, but I was called back at 8:45a to see the provider. The exam rooms are sparse with just a table and chairs. No computer as they just wheeled it in where someone takes notes for the provider. The room was also very "cold" and "institutional." I'm used to medical offices with a bit more modern and inviting spaces. After removing my soft cast, I was taken to another room for digital x-rays. The x-ray gun looked very industrial and ancient, but images were captured on a modern digital x-ray tablet, so it doesn't really matter. I was then led back to the exam room and the doctor arrived within minutes of my return. They had excellent bedside manner, explained the results of the x-ray, and removed the sutures. They answered my questions and I didn't feel rushed or talked down to. Overall, I was very pleased with my visit. read more

Everyone that was there when I arrived and everyone that came in for the next hour came and left. I was virtually the last person in the waiting room . After 3 TKR I was advised to have a 4 knee surgery, I thought about it and decided to get a second opinion. I'm glad I did I went and saw a PA of Dr Christopher Bryce at Ortho Arizona and was very pleased that she advised me to think about it as I don't have much bone in my leg and any more surgery like that could possibly loose my leg. The front desk and nurses were great and again I was very impressed with Jennifer Golding's PA she was extremely knowledgeable upon her exam of my L Knee, I'm glad I went and got the second option. I visited these guys almost two years ago due to some foot pain. Everything went smooth and I figured things were settled. Now, two years later and out of the blue, OrthoArizona's billing department is saying I owe them $30 otherwise I'll be referred to collections. I paid everything two years ago and it's extremely odd and frustrating to receive a surprise bill and threatening letter. Because of that, I do not recommend OrthoArizona. read more

I twisted my knee during a fall and I had concerns of ligament and/or meniscus injuries. I was only able to see a PA and she had x-rays taken and conducted an exam on me. Her diagnosis was just a patellar strain and stated that I could continue to do heavy activity and that I would not cause any further damage by doing so. I again reiterated my concerns and asked for an MRI. She would not order me one and stated that I could make an appt to see the orthopedist to get one. Fortunately, I trusted my own instinct and obtained an order for an MRI elsewhere which showed that I had a grade II MPFL tear, grade I MCL tear, small tear on my meniscus, a fissure on the medial facet of the patella, bruising (or possible fracture) on my lateral femoral condyle, trochlear dysplasia and patella alta. I also submitted a request for Ortho Arizona to send my x-rays to another office, which they failed to do so. So I had to pay for x-rays again. I am looking at six weeks of PT, wearing a special knee brace to keep my patella from dislocating again with very little activity outside of PT. It's ridiculous that I had to pay for such horrible advice, which had I taken, could have easily caused me to injure my knee even further ... likely guaranteeing reconstructive knee surgery. I would stay far away from this place! read more

This place is absolutely terrible and that is me being nice. DO NOT expect to be treated like an actual human/patient in any way shape or form, you are just a paycheck to them. Had an MRI completed a month ago and never heard anything back from the doctor/company. Had to call to find out my results were posted online and I would need to make a follow up appointment if I wanted them reviewed (first available appointment was 3 weeks after MRI). Also will take you at least a half an hour on hold before you will/can even talk to someone. I had to call the MRI company they sent me just to find out they're systems don't work and had to talk to their IT department, who then had to file a ticket with another company to try and get my results (this also took a month). But they have no problem charging you for everything up front. Finally went to my appointment to find out they "accidentally" scheduled my appointment for the following week when on the phone they told me it was for the current week. I even called 2 hours before my appointment to verify the time and date. Save your time and money and go to somewhere that actual cares about your well-being. read more

Dr. David Jaffe and the staff at OrthoArizona rebuilt my ankle after my six year old accident overseas. It took two months to undo the damage and now my ankle is back to normal. Words cannot express the joy of being remade into a normal walking woman. This is the place to go if you need a vastly superior experience as an orthopedic patient. Dr Song literally yelled at me during my consultation. All I asked him was if he saw the cysts and bone spurs that are on 2 different mri reports that I have., by TWO separate radiologists! Dr Song said my neck is fine and that my spine is fine despite having numerous diagnosed spine conditions. I have even had back surgery! He even said if I saw a mri of his neck that it's "10 times worse!". He never even came into the room to see me at all, he had me go into the hallway to look at mri images. So our entire conversation was public and in the hallway. He has no professionalism and doesn't respect patient privacy! When he yelled at me I told him the appointment was over and to never talk to me or any patient that way! I can't believe this person is a real doctor and he gives all doctors a bad name. I am so upset! My consultation was about five minutes or less as Dr Song has no time to answer his patient's questions. read more

Wow! This office blew me away with their care. I took my son in after he fell and hurt his wrist. They saw us quickly, took as many X-rays as they needed to get a good view of the problem. Everyone from the doctor (Montague) and the X-ray techs and the PA were extremely kind, helpful, and good at their jobs. read more

The OrthoArizona treat you like third class people. Not interested about patients circumstances only want to control you. Never got past the elevator KGB, not a bit concerned whether a person can function or nor. Just concerned about control, just like the communists. Requires mask whether a person is capable of wearing one. Masks were created for surgeons to maintain their saliva from getting in the surgical field, or in case of dental surgeons to keep splatter from patients getting on surgeons. Pours in masks allow all viruses, most bacteria, smoke. Masks will trap down to about 100 nm. Virus are smaller than 100 no. Studies show masks are ineffective in filtering any SARS-CoV-2 virus. Mask requirements is about control. Control is socialism/communism. They want all is old people to die off. read more

I have been here for 3 visits (3 different doctors) and I do not want to go back. It's just a patient mill. The doctors don't have time for any real patient history 5-10 min. max for a consultation. I fell 3 months ago and fractured both forearms and my right elbow. My knee also isn't the same either, but they don't see anything on the x-rays. (Then why is it still hurting after all this time)? I went in with shoulder trauma.. on June 22, to see Dr Martin... the physical therapy department ...finally called me to schedule an appointment on July 6th... and were only able to offer me an appointment on July 24th... with my follow up doctors appointment the first week in August. They did let me know they were backed up with physical therapy.... but only when I was leaving... please stop taking new patients... if you know you are understaffed and can't accommodate people who are in pain. Never was it acknowledged that all of this was an inconvenience or that getting me out of pain was a priority ... just treatment as usually.. note ... I am providing this review... to help new patients know what they are getting into before they book an initial appointment... there are other choices out there.. and hopefully other offices that will treat you as a priority... not an inconvenience... I had fallen and injured my hand and wrist. At first I thought I just sprained it, but next day I was in major pain and went to the local urgent care. They took xrays and noted on my paperwork that the xrays noted an extra bony density possibly representing a fracture or break and I should have a CT for further evaluation. They give me names of Ortho hand doctors to call to get in immediately. I did! I saw Dr. Scott Evans at Ortho Arizona in Mesa. He barely spoke to me, saw me for maybe 2-3 mins total. I tried to show him what the urgent care people told me, but he dismissed it and didn't even look at the paperwork. Granted, I have been in pain and I am still wearing the temp cast the urgent care people put me in. I took another xray and it didn't show a break. He told me point blank told me it wasn't broken they(urgent care) were mistaken it's only sprained. He told me to wear a splint they can give me up to 2 weeks. He told me it should better in a week or so. Doubt I would have to come back. OK. A week goes by and I am still in pain. I decided to reach out on Facebook for recommendations for a hand doctor. I received a referral from a friend and was able to get in the next day. The new doctor actually took the time to sit with me and listened to what I had to say. They also took xrays in the office. He was unable to see anything wrong with my hand, but he had the knowledge to send me to get an MRI. Results indicated that I DID break 2 bones in my hand, Trapezium and Trapezoid! At this point I was in a splint for almost a month. I should've been in a cast from day one, but I have another 3 weeks of wearing the splint. Luckily, I don't need surgery, but this was a huge miss for a doctor! I truly feel because the doctor didn't think my hand was broken, nor did I need surgery resulting in high dollars, I was dismissed. read more

Dr. Caleb Behrend MD with OrthoArizona is too busy to do any sort of follow-up with his patients after major surgery. He performed major back surgery on my husband on March 26th and we have not spoken to him or been able to see him or his assistant since! Joe was in the hospital for 3 days after surgery and Behrend nor his assistant Christina Frieh made the time to go see him or even give us a call to let us know how things went! There were options to what he did once he got in there and we have NO IDEA what was done. No one called me after surgery, no one so much as checked on his well being while he was in the hospital. The hospital texted Christina while Inwas there and she didn't even respond to them! Yesterday, we went for his follow up appt and while they confirmed we had an appt. Neither Behrend or Frieh were there so we were reschedule 2 more weeks out! Further, they have delayed his medical disability paperwork so long each time it was due that his benefits were cut off multiple times and we had to appeal each time to get them reinstated. Yesterday we found out they lost the paperwork so we have to start over again. This means 2 months of waiting again for his disability check. The last time this happened, Christine herself told me she was "too busy to get it all done as it is just me"! They are clearly not ready for new patients if they can't take care of what is needed for the ones they have. OrthoArizona you are only as good as your Dr. makes you look. You are not good and not a place that would be recommended based on Behrend and Frieh's lack of ability to follow through with ANYTHING. read more
