They called to schedule an appointment then didn't put it on their calendar. Wasted afternoon. Go somewhere else.

I have been here for 3 visits (3 different doctors) and I do not want to go back. It's just a patient mill. The doctors don't have time for any real patient history 5-10 min. max for a consultation. I fell 3 months ago and fractured both forearms and my right elbow. My knee also isn't the same either, but they don't see anything on the x-rays. (Then why is it still hurting after all this time)? I do not feel like there is any "real" patient care. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! read more

I went in with shoulder trauma.. on June 22, to see Dr Martin... the physical therapy department ...finally called me to schedule an appointment on July 6th... and were only able to offer me an appointment on July 24th... with my follow up doctors appointment the first week in August. They did let me know they were backed up with physical therapy.... but only when I was leaving... please stop taking new patients... if you know you are understaffed and can't accommodate people who are in pain. Never was it acknowledged that all of this was an inconvenience or that getting me out of pain was a priority ... just treatment as usually.. note ... I am providing this review... to help new patients know what they are getting into before they book an initial appointment... there are other choices out there.. and hopefully other offices that will treat you as a priority... not an inconvenience... Dr. Caleb Behrend MD with OrthoArizona is too busy to do any sort of follow-up with his patients after major surgery. He performed major back surgery on my husband on March 26th and we have not spoken to him or been able to see him or his assistant since! Joe was in the hospital for 3 days after surgery and Behrend nor his assistant Christina Frieh made the time to go see him or even give us a call to let us know how things went! There were options to what he did once he got in there and we have NO IDEA what was done. No one called me after surgery, no one so much as checked on his well being while he was in the hospital. The hospital texted Christina while Inwas there and she didn't even respond to them! Yesterday, we went for his follow up appt and while they confirmed we had an appt. Neither Behrend or Frieh were there so we were reschedule 2 more weeks out! Further, they have delayed his medical disability paperwork so long each time it was due that his benefits were cut off multiple times and we had to appeal each time to get them reinstated. Yesterday we found out they lost the paperwork so we have to start over again. This means 2 months of waiting again for his disability check. The last time this happened, Christine herself told me she was "too busy to get it all done as it is just me"! They are clearly not ready for new patients if they can't take care of what is needed for the ones they have. OrthoArizona you are only as good as your Dr. makes you look. You are not good and not a place that would be recommended based on Behrend and Frieh's lack of ability to follow through with ANYTHING. read more

RUN AWAY!!! Orthro AZ has owed me money for 15 months going back to July 2022, and NO ONE ever answers their phone or returns calls. My insurance company issued them a check for my overpayment in Dec. 2022, - which they still have not forwarded to me. DO NOT use Orthro AZ for ANY REASON!!! Terrible - or rather non-existent - customer service. I would give them 0 starts if possible. read more

Dr Montague did a great job at surgically fixing a spiral break of my small finger in April 2023. The surgical team was fantastic. Dr knew I was leaving for a month in Europe at the end of May and PT gave me exercises to do while I was gone. During vacation, although faithful with the exercises, the finger was bending downwards at the knuckle and the tip was turning up. I called the office the morning after I got home, only to be told there were no openings for over a month, not even with the PA. I tried repeatedly to schedule a visit claiming it is a post op complication and yet they REFUSED to see me, telling me it was "vacation time". After 5 attempts, I gave up. When Dr Montague finally did see me in mid July , he wasn't at all concerned. He said " of course its going to be crooked", then sarcastically asked if I was expecting a "MAGIC BULLET? Really! I then went to Mayo every 3-4 weeks from June 30 until February 29th , 2024 for hand therapy with frequent physician oversight. It looks 85% better but still far from normal due to Ortho AZ's delay in addressing the scar tissue that formed during the treatment delay. I expected continuity of care from, Ortho AZ, not a physician that would refuse to see me, and then attempt to insult me for expecting better follow up care. I am an RN, MSN and would never recommend him or go back to him. This is not post-op care, its neglect in my opinion. read more

I recently had two exceptional surgeries with Dr. Jason Lake, one on each of my ankles. Both surgeries were very successful, I had so little pain throughout the entire process. I believe Dr. Lake's careful atraumatic surgical techniques most likely led to my fast postsurgical recovery even though I am over 60. When I was originally researching orthopedic ankle surgeons, Dr. Lake was my top choice on paper. Upon meeting him, his personable and intelligent nature solidified my decision. His overview of my impending surgery gave me a clear foundational understanding of his procedure and it was reassuring to hear. I am new in Arizona and feel very grateful to have found such an excellent surgeon and I very highly recommend him. read more

My rating is based on the office help at front desk and the medical assistant. They have been great. The doctors, however, not so much. Especially the shoulder specialists. Specialists? Maybe in what they do when they do it. I cannot get anyone to do what is needed to correct the 2 tears in my right rotator cuff. Have done all they asked, submitted all reports on time, and now he/they have pissed away weeks of work and may have to do it all over again -- only if I keep same surgeon. Have been calling for some help, no call backs from doctor or surgery scheduler. I don't know what more they want. I wouldn't recommend shoulder surgery from shoulder specialists; try the sports medicine doctors instead. read more

I was referred here by Cigna. I won't go back. It took more than a month to get an appt. I saw Dr. Tefteller In the Chandler Office who assumed I had a frozen shoulder. He gave me steroids and pain killers and told me to go to Physical Therapy. The physical therapy hurt so bad I couldn't continue.The pain killers made me sick so I called his PA Brittany 3 x and never got a call back. I asked to see the shoulder doctor. It took another month to see Dr.Paterson. He gave me a cortisone shot and told me to call back if it didn't feel better and he would order an MRI. Then informed me he was going on vacation. I call his PA 2x before he called me back and said they were going to order an MRI. I had to call 3x to follow up on the MRI that never got faxed.They referred me back to Cigna for the MRI. The MRI was the worst pain I ever felt in my life. The results were put into My Chart on the following Monday so I called back to get an appt like I was told and was informed that they could not see me for another 3 weeks to give me my results that I could already see on My Chart. So have have bee living in pain with a tear for months because they are too busy to see me or make a phone call. Please ask to be referred somewhere else. They won't help you here. read more

I've been having problems with my thumb/hand and got a referral to see an ortho surgeon from my primary physician. I was assigned to Dr. Michael Montague at OrthoArizona. The offices were very busy. Front desk staff were great, told me right off the bat that the doctor was running late and I could reschedule if I wanted. I opted to wait. Once I was taken to the back examination room, I was taken in for x-rays of my hand almost immediately by their X-ray tech and in about 10-15 minutes later Dr. Montague showed up with a note taker, did an examination on my hand and discussed options for my diagnosis. He looked me in the face, answered all my questions, I never felt rushed during the entire discussion--I understand why he was late with his appointments because of the time he took with me! He even started to get up, looked at me, sat back down and asked me what else I had questions about. How is that for an attentive doctor/surgeon!? Five out of five gold stars Dr. Montague... kind, considerate, patient, intuitive caregiver. Also, kudos to OrthoArizona for having a note-taker come in with the doctor--less administrivia and more time for the doctor to focus on their patient. read more

Dr. was attentive the few minutes I saw him in the office, and seemed to be knowledgeable, though he did not display the x-rays so i could see what was happening. Trying to contact the practice again to get a referral for a physical therapist has been fruitless and frustrating. Their office phones are always busy, they did not respond to a message left. Their "portal" is only good for completing check in prior to office visit. Cannot contact the physician through the portal. Can't even contact the office to find out how to delete the portal account. read more

The care from the doctors and staff was good. I did well with the physical therapy, but the BILLING is horrible. They have a sign in the window at PT office that states the cost for self-pay (those with no insurance) and I had insurance and they charged me more!!! In fact, I paid the same for 5 physical therapy appointments as the non-insured paid for 6 physical therapy appointments--makes no sense they would charge me more when I have insurance. And the Specialist copay for my insurance is $40, they billed me additional $34!! I tried several times to reach someone in billing and even sent a message through OrthoAZ "contact us" on their website & ZERO response. I would not recommend them because of the billing issues. read more

BAD & BAD: Visited office 3x times, did not have a chance to see doctor, esp. for last appointment with the Doctor, waited 1 hr in the room, he did not show up and sent the same nurse. Visited OrthoArizona for arthritis issue December 2022. Office visit, x-rays, consultation - no complaints. Billing issue: charged for non-received injection. Clearly, I would recall receiving an injection into my hand(s). Multiple unsuccessful attempts to resolve with OrthoArizona billing. Made a report to my insurance company to investigate the charges. Made a second report to my insurance provider for fraudulent charges after first investigation was closed due to OrthoArizona, standing by their records that I had received the injection. Reported to BBB. OrthoArizona didn't correct or address. Caution: check bills closely. BTW, BBB gives OrthoArizona F rating. read more

I have waited over a year for my surgery to be performed. It has been scheduled and rescheduled. Now Dr. Caleb Behrend is referring me to another surgeon (not an OrthoArizona surgeon) because, all of a sudden, my insurance will not cover any of the facilities in which he needs to perform the L-2 through L-5 lumbar fusion surgery. Why wasn't I told that a year ago, I have the same insurance? Or is it because Dr. Behrend's staff just realized that I am on a medicare advantage plan which means he has to take a reduced fee? I am now a year older, my vertebrates are more deteriorated and I am in more pain. I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE ELSE IN THE IN THE FUTURE TO MAKE A WISER DECISION THAN ME. read more

I have seen and been operated on by Dr Bryce for pain and arthritis in both of my knees. He did a fabulous job and his PA Jennifer Goldman was super knowledgeable. She's well trained in giving knee injections, & always had plenty of time to answer questions or explain my condition. read more

I had an appointment that I showed up early to, per their suggestion in their email. My appointment was at 11:15, I showed up a little before 11. During my time in the waiting room, I watched them turn away two people for being late! How are they gonna turn away two people for being 10 minutes late when I've been in the waiting room 20 minutes past my appointment time? Make it make sense! It's safe to say I will be looking elsewhere for a knee dr! I didn't actually get seen until 11:55, my appointment was at 11:15! Such a waste of my time! read more

I have been scheduled for cubital tunnel surgery for a month. Tomorrow is the date. I have yet to hear from anyone regarding my pre surgical needs. No One told me not to eat after midnight and so far, No One has told me my surgical time. I have left numerous messages but No One has returned my calls. The only information I have is what I've found online...nothing specific to me. I love my surgeon, Dr. Scott Evans, so thorough and kind, but the rest of the staff sucks. I need this surgery or I would cancel and start over. I will never use OrthoArizona again for any problem. Seems the larger the corporation the less they care about you. read more

I've seen 3 doctors here over the years and I won't ever go back to this place. Note, the doctors own the practice, the hospital, and physical therapy. The doctors will only do surgery, beyond that they are useless. They will not explain anything, you're very rushed with the doctor coming in and out several times. Tell you to buy a brace or do some exercises? NOPE! They send you to PT that they own so they can make even more $$$. This is a conflict of interest and the doctors take advantage. Crooks, imho. The last Dr. (Dinowitz) was the worst and I will never, ever, go back here! Everything is geared towards the doctors, not the patient. read more

We are in the process of moving my wife's orthopedic care to Mayo Clinic. The care here by Dr. Michael Hayden MD has been excellent --no issues, but their billing department policy is just infuriating. We have excellent insurance but occasionally there is balance owed usually under $100. When they send the very FIRST BILL out on what remains owed once they have settled up with the insurance company it comes to us with a big red banner that says "FINAL NOTICE!". I called the billing department to find out WTF is going on because all of last 5 or 6 bills have been like this. Our last bill they settled up with the insurance on 7/22 and on the August bill once again it says "FINAL NOTICE!" in big red letters. I was hoping I would get a reasonable explanation like perhaps they simply ran out of the normal billing paper stock and had to use the red final notice stock--but oh no, these a-holes said they send all the bills out that way to quote "get out in front" of people who are late or might be late and to be again quote "more aggressive" in collecting balances. It's such an absurd and degrading policy to their customers who always pay their bill promptly. It's really a shame because Dr. Hayman has been great, as are the office staff, nurses, PAs and MAs. But I'm sick of seeing red, both figuratively and literally every time we get a bill from these jerks. They have made over $60k on my wife's care but I refuse to spend another dime there. If I were the Doctors who actually own this business, I would be firing a billing Manager--his or her *ss needs to be put out on the street! Steer clear of OrthoArizona, they will do not appreciate having you as a patient. read more

We were referred here from urgent care when we thought my son had hurt his wrist from falling off a scooter. Turns out it was a broken elbow! We went to the N Gilbert office and saw the PA Jason. He was great! Everything was quick and efficient, we did not have a long wait for anything. read more

The care I received from orthoarizona was horrible. Had knee replacement may of 2022. Doctor Brad Bruns was very polite and friendly. However my knee has got worse he did not seem to care. Had unnecessary tests done just a number. Please stay away I have been in pain since surgery one year ago. Having another surgeon try and correct the damage ortho caused. Also the physical therapy at 32nd st and Greenway did more harm than good. They just don't care about you. read more

Dr montague was great but their billing situation is just ridiculous. Their surgery side charged me my deductible. Then the surgeon submitted to my insurance first so I owed them (all ortho Arizona) instead of the surgery center. They then sent me to collections for that (we thought we had paid everything). Now we owe the collections company an additional $325 and have to get the surgery side to give us our money back. Insanity. read more

I took a bad fall playing Pickle Ball and ended up at the ER with a fractured left wrist, 12 breaks and a torn ligament. The hospital told me I would be getting a call within a few days from OrthoArizona to schedule surgery. That same afternoon I received the call and was told Dr. Montague would like to see me the next day. At that meeting, Dr. Montague said that I had a pretty serious break, and he thoroughly explained what he planned to do during the surgery that he had scheduled for the very next day. The three hour surgery went very good and I left with a plate, 12 screws and three pins. So after about 11 weeks of bi-weekly appointments with Dr. Montague and a second surgery to remove the three pins, he gave me the green light to work back into golf in two weeks. I could not be happier with the care provided by Dr. Montague! I cannot thank OrthoArizona, Dr. Montague and all of his staff who made a pretty bad situation into a very manageable and positive treatment and recovery. read more

I don't like posting reviews like this but I will never go to them again. from the very beginning I started having problems with there office help. The took forever to get clearance from my insurance. I was referred them by th VA community care team therefore they needed to reach out to the VA for example insurance information. I ended up doing the information from TriWest since ortho was taking too long. in other word, I got them the. learance for my surgery. Dr Davidson performed the surgery on my right shoulder for a rotator cuff tear. Dr D is a great person and an outstanding Dr. however, the office support does not d him justice. They were hard to get through on the phone, e-mail, and call backs. Needless to say, I cannot remember having a surgery center as bad as they were. I do not recommend them to anyone. read more

I was a patient of Dr Lake's for 6 years, he performed over 10 surgeries on both of my ankles. I was happy with the results except until my last encounter with Dr Lake. Beginning in May of 21 I started making comments during my office visits about the skin on my ankle not closing as well as some fluid discharge. Each time, Dr. Lake said that it was hard to heal there and everything was ok. In Nov of 21 during my surgery to remove hardware, Dr Lake told me that he would address the open skin wound. Unfortunately, the wound was not addressed and it remained the same as it was prior to surgery. In Mar of 22 I was hospitalized as I was in horrible pain. Dr. Lake's initial thoughts were that it was just arthritis, however, after imaging and tests it proved to be osteomyelitis (bone infection). The infection most likely was a result of the severe trauma in my ankle but also possibly from the open skin wound. After the surgeries to address the infection my wound still did not completely heal, Dr. Lake again said this was normal and/or there wasn't anything he could do. I told Dr Lake that I wanted to be more aggressive with the wound treatment but he did not react. About 2 months later upon recommendation from another physician, I was advised to go to OrthoAZ corporate office to ask what their process was for getting a second opinion on this topic. It wasn't a complaint but I wanted the head office to assist I with another opinion. I got another opinion from an OrthoAZ dr but his opinion was same as Dr Lake. On my own I sought out a wound care Dr at Banner University. Once there the wound care Dr immediately put I on an aggressive treatment to fight the open wound and possible infection. That Dr said this was critical and must be addressed immediately. Once Dr. Lake found out that I had went to OrthoAZ corporate office he was immediately different, on edge and clearly angry that I was "the first complaint from a patient" he had received in 13 years. While I thought there was awkwardness and hurt feelings, I wanted to move on with Dr. Lake as my foot doctor at least until I was clear of any infection issues. In Nov. of 22, I had some discomfort that I believed was the start of the infection again so I went in to see Dr. Lake. At my appointment he told me that he would order some tests for me but that he could no longer see me as his patient and that he didn't think any dr. at OrthoAZ could see me even though I was going through a current medical issue. I was floored by this, the corporate office had not communicated with me in over 4 months about this. A couple days later I got the "Dear John" letter from the corporate office dropping me as their patient. I have never been treated this poorly by a Doctor or Doctor's office and I hope this review provides a data point for other potential patients to consider. read more

I had a terrible experience with Shelden Martin, it took me almost 2 hours to get in and out of there and he couldn't be bothered to spend 5 minutes with me. He cut me off when I tried to speak, he spoke down to me, and then while I was asking him questions he already started walking out the door and left mid-sentence. I had x-rays and he didn't go over those with me at all. I will never come back here and will be sure to share this review on the site, google and feedback on Shelden Martin. I dont like being lied to, esp when it affects how I handle my condition. been having hip problems since Jan., with pain so bad I cant walk or stand for long. xrays show hip and back arthrisit. I have had 5 cortison shots and two prescriptions of prendison; nothing helped. gave me a MRI. was told I had bursitirs of the hips and gave me exercises. next visit, was told i had tendonitis and needed a procedure 'xten' I looked at my MRI reseult and it says that my tendons and bursas are fine, pain is from back The dr said the xten procedure wasnt for me, duh, because I dont have tendonitis. appts are like 5 minutes long, they dont return calls, they dont read repots, they now want to give me back shots. Their lack of an appropriate diagnosis kept me in pain for 6 months. I am done with them and will go somewhere else that actuallly cares about their patients the office staff and nurses are wonderful, wish the doctors were as well read more

Went in to the office on 1/7 as a referral. I had an ultra sound and an X-ray performed prior to my first appointment. Dr office stated they couldn't access my records, I'd need to go get MRIs. Strange, I can see both test results in Simon Med portal. Ok. Show up for MRIs and they wanted $1000 out of pocket, not expected had to reschedule. Show up to cash pay 1 MRI and wait for results. A month passed since my original appointment. I'm in excruciating pain with both my knees, already diagnosed conditions in both from earlier imaging. Dr Miller will not update Tramadol or steroid prescription when requested. Don't go here. They do not care about your pain. read more

Trying to get a procedure scheduled has been unnecessarily difficult! The first time I scheduled and paid in advance (for what insurance didn't cover) and I show up at my appointment only to find out that the necessary equipment was not ordered and my appointment has to be rescheduled. And then when I call to reschedule it takes over 24 hours to gather information and call me back to schedule an appointment and now I have to wait 16 days. I would prefer to find another provider but I'm too far in at this point. Very disappointing. read more

Couldn't have had a better experience! From the front desk to the wheelchair ride to the car. Every pre-appointment was on time and everyone couldn't have been more professional and nice. Two hips for my wife, one hip for me and ankle fusion. They keep us going pain free! Will go no where else. read more

I recommend Dr. Jason Lake, MD. He is a foot and ankle Specialist. He is board certified in orthopaedic (orthopedic) surgery. However, surgery is not always required. The ABEO shoes helped my Plantar Fasciitis foot / heal pain. Stretching my calf muscle helped too. read more
