I would give zero if I could. I am new to the area so chose to go here as it was recommended by an urgent care specialist. What a big mistake. The good- it allows walk-ins; Since you wait a long time- their waiting area is pretty nice. the building has a very big parking lot. My nurse was nice and good bedside manners. The bad.. here they go. Don't even bother making an appointment, the wait period is about the same as the walk-ins if not worse since you'd already spent time trying to make an appointment. Don't be surprised if an agent or a rep hangs up on you. And, They don't call back. No one apologies about not notifying you about the long wait or after you wait that long- even if you're seen few hours after the set up time. They come up with reasons to say- basically your fault. Billing department- everyone plays 'I don't know that' game. I called about billing- no one calls back. And no one is at the desk. I also want to add my comments about the doctors/PA's who talked to me very rude but I only met one each. So I am hoping the others are not. The walls are thin! You hear everything that's happening in the next door! Where is the privacy? Not here! Hope you feel better quickly! And Good luck on your recovery. I had my right hip in 2016 by Dr. Polifroni. Until recently the hip seemed great but recently it has been giving me a great deal of pain. When I called Coastal Orthopedics in Norwalk, Connecticut the receptionist was very unhelpful. She told me that they they did not accept my insurance and put me on hold for an interminable time trying to speak to a manager. My original surgeon, Nicholas Polifroni, is no longer with Coastal Orthopedics. I suggest going elsewhere. read more

Had a total hip replacement. Continuing pain for 14 months afterwards. Found a new surgeon who confirmed that the stem had never been cemented in properly. Had to have a revision surgery. The stem was "grossly" loose and pretty much fell out leaving all the cement behind. Pain and ongoing suffering for all that time. The mental and financial toll on my life has been horrendous. This should have been figured out sooner. read more

The care we received was fair at best. The billing has been a nightmare. We were given a brace that my daughter was never fit for but told to wear when she came out of her boot. It didn't fit in her shoe and her physical therapist said not to wear it. They charged us $104 for that brace and when I called to ask about it I didn't hear back for a month and a half. Called again and didn't hear back again for a month until I received a threatening letter in the mail. I called another time and there was no apology, no flexibility, nothing. read more

I had received exceptional care here in the past for an injury to my arm. My Dr. Was fantastic!...however most recently was seen by another Dr. - who in my opinion was not great. He blew in and out on my first visit- I thought maybe he was having a rough day so decided to return for my first follow up. His demeanor was not professional. He was not informative and spent no time explaining anything to me. I know he's a great surgeon as he performed surgery on a friend of mine, so I can't tell you what the problem was as I'm uncertain. I was there for a worker's comp injury and he was more concerned about inflicting unnecessary stress upon me by asking right away "if I was ready to go back to work" stating that my "job could replace me if I didn't return to work" I had only been out two weeks with a significant sprain that was captured on video at work so I wasn't concerned. What did concern me was the focus being my job and not my injury. I was given a boot with no instruction. No written instruction. No guidance at all. No prognosis- no healing time lines. I was in a fair amount of pain. I ended up requesting a second opinion of the comp insurer which was approved and I saw another Dr. In the area who provided me with the care and information I deserved. The bottom line is that I was sent back to work a few weeks too soon and I needed more time to heal. My job Is very labor intensive and I suffered unnecessarily for a few weeks when I could have spent more time healing. I was completely turned off by the attitude of the Dr. Here and I would not choose to see him again. I also found the office personnel to be quite awful. They were literally demanding my insurance card when I explained to them it was a comp. Injury and my insurance should not be billed. 3 desk people yelling at me rather than explaining why they needed it. It wasn't necessary at all. A few weeks later I was personally billed and needed to phone the office again. I made it through OK in the end but it didn't have to be this way. read more

I have been making calls back and forth between my GP and CO trying to get this referral so I can make my appointment. Finally gave up after 4 days of calls. read more

After seeing my chiropractor, my family dr, an urgent care dr as well as an ER doctor, all within 4 days, my friend recommended me here. I went as a walk in with MRI results that I've had and couldn't get a hold of my Dr to read me the results. I had been in excruciating neck pain for over a week and only had a muscle relaxer prescribed which didn't help with the pain. Dr. Bast read me my MRI and told me that i had not only herniated a cervical disk but there is a fragment of disk missing. He finally gave me some pain relief and the following week I had the epidural injection and I have been pain free since then! I've had a follow up since and all seems good. His nurse, Barbara is such a sweetheart and I will not go anywhere else!! I just wish their phones would work consistently. Worst, most drawn-out patient experience of my life. Dr barely saw me. Was x-rayed, not MRI'd for a clear soft tissue injury. Was forced to visit one office and then pay at another (after waiting for its lunch time to end) to pick up a pair of generic orthotics--no casting or impressions made--just out of the box-- like Dr. Scholl's. Practice sent my pain meds prescription to the wrong pharmacy location--and could not get prescription sent to correct one without Dr's approval. Could not get film or treatment notes sent without going making additional call--call goes to voice mail. No written treatment instructions--just a tech giving me a boot and insoles I could have gotten on Amazon.com. Lucky I had tendonitis--Mind-blowingly bad. While I waited for lunch to end at second location to get my insoles, some dude with his knee wrapped with blood clotting on it like he'd had some surgical procedure complication, was told (after waiting on line on crutches) that he couldn't see his doctor because he had no walk in hours. Dr Protomastro has been treating my shoulder issue since September. He started with a conservative approach (cortazone) and when that didn't work, an MRI showed I needed surgery. That went very well and I am recovering and doing PT. Dr Protomastro has answered all my questions, allayed my fear, and put me on the road to recovery. I would recommend him to anyone with shoulder pain. I have also used Dr Kleeman for several foot issues. He too tries conservative approaches like shoe inserts, PT or cortazone. He has done 2 successful surgeries on me and I'm happy to be walking comfortably. read more

Started having back pain again after 2 surgeries for the same issue with a different doctor. December 4th went to get my 10 pound dog of the couch and the shooting pain down my leg was unbearable, to the point I could not stand. Dr Brady was recommended and I went to see him. After having an MRI I had no choice but to have a spinal fusion, which is obviously very scary but I could not live in so much pain. From Dr Brady, nurse practitioner Jan, Jon the ladies at the front desk, you won't find a better team. Dr Brady and his team are compassionate, they always called me back, listened to my concerns and I was always treated with compassion and understanding. I was seen at this facility today for a work-related injury from 5 months ago. I was seeing another doctor but was seeking a second opinion for treatment as I have been in pain the entire duration. I will not name the doctor, but his response to my concern left me feeling like I was wasting my time. I decided to run the scenario by two other individuals who agreed that his lack of compassion, understanding, and disregard for my current situation was 100% racially based. Unfortunately, some individuals who work in the medical field have preconceived notions of certain racial classes and continue to create a healthcare disparity gap because of these beliefs. I would never return there and would never recommend anyone of any race to be seen by this facility because ALL people are not being treated the same. read more

Highway robbers! While the care I received was good, they charged me $400 for a walking boot that retailed for $60 on Amazon. I asked for the price before, they couldn't tell me but said "nobody has complained". Enjoy the nice furniture and TV's in the lobby - which you are paying for when the gouge you and your insurance plan by marking things up over 1000%. I was at Coastal Orthopaedics the other day to get an injection of synthetic cartilage in my right knee. The speed and knowledge of my doctor was great. He had given me shots before and greater me by name. We talked about things and I did not even feel the shot when it was administered. I was out of the exam room in under 25 minutes. The Westport urgent walk in is clean and quiet and efficient! The Norwalk office is always efficient and super friendly! Making appointments and easily seeing the appropriate specialist, fallow ups, and confident nurses- all a breeze! Honestly they are better and faster then making an appointment with our primary- x rays are accessible and are read by real practitioners ! Thew hardest part is dealing with the people who answer the phone, some are somewhat helpful most are rude and can careless of your issues. This number 1 (worst) rating is strictly related to every bit of the administration, response time, and reaction to patient needs from anyone related to this office with the exception that - - The doctors are superb. Dr. Paul Protomastro has operated on my shoulders twice and he is spectacular. Dr. Bast who did an epidural on me yesterday is superb: soft-spoken intelligent organized caring wonderful. I could not speak Greater for him as a professional : Excellent The problem for these young smart hard-working experienced proven doctors is that - whoever is supposed to be taking care of the management response and administration - from the good hard work that these doctors perform - is the worst possible in my opinion. It is several steps worse than any motor vehicle department I've ever dealt with. And I can tell you that this was not the case five years ago - prior to the disastrous administrative changes that have been made since then. They used to be really good at follow-up and patient care. In almost every example of anything that I have needed over the past two weeks in treating my herniated disc in my back has been a minimum of a 25 minute frustrating bouncing around call with almost guaranteed poor or failed results. Prescriptions not ordered. . No response to needed prescriptions without numerous phone calls. No response to request to compare MRI specific data on results from 2017 versus 2015. Again I will note that once you are in front of a doctor or a doctor's direct report - I have been happy with the response and professionalism every time. Once you leave communication with that doctor - you should plan on very poor results and follow up from the office. I will also say that the doctor and physician assistants including direct reports to the doctor - when you get them on the phone - they're great. Trying to get to them - nearly impossible - and if they are not going to take care of what you discussed with them personally - and they involve someone else in the office to complete the task - maybe at the front desk - you are guaranteed very high failure probability. My summary is - and this is all conjecture and guesswork: they have probably sold to some financial entity -- that is doing an extremely poor job of trying to make the most profit. And I am a firm believer in as much profit as you can make. The Purpose Is Profit - and that will come from making sure the Ts are crossed and the i's are dotted --- caring for your patients/customers. As a businessman it is my guess that these examples of failed service and other failing administrative processes are significantly damaging the profitability and future growth of the organization. ....Prior to the current administration - this was a growing wonderful positive image business from all that I saw and experienced. In speaking with family and seeing other very similar but not as detailed reviews - they have had the same recent experience as me: disappointing. FYI three days prior to my writing this note - I very directly and respectfully explained all of this to one of the lead administrators in the office. Following my comments to that person I have had numerous more examples of the same failed results. I called them twice yesterday for a prescription that was needed following my epidural yesterday - result: zero result. Failed. I had to call again after hours and talk with a doctor - and of course since I was dealing directly with the doctor, the job was done by the doctor - efficiently and completed satisfactorily. I would follow everyone of these doctors to a new practice. read more

The doctor My son sees is great however this rating is for the front desk service. Very simple minded, unable to grasp concept, disrespectful, snappy and rude on multiple occasions. Does not have accurate information and poor communication on your behalf to medical personnel. My experience with OrthoConnecticut has always been great. Unfortunately I've been there for quite a few times. This last time I had severely broken, bone hanging out, shoulder. The Emergency room did all the x-rays, blood tests etc., that the doctor would need. I saw Dr Frank the next day, I was scheduled for surgery the next day. It felt like forever! But I got through it and Dr Frank's work was amazing! I have followed up with Dr Frank every three weeks in the beginning and then monthly, and finally every three months. The office staff is extremely helpful and very friendly. The x-ray techs were great, in the beginning, when my shoulder really hurt they were very courteous, they are just great. This past week was my last visit, I am completely healed thanks to great service from Dr Frank and the entire staff of OrthoConnecticut. read more

I have also been very pleased with his support staff in the Norwalk and in Westport Offices who also, have been very helpful and concerned and kept everyone safe during the pandemic. The doctors are decent here, however, their business side of things is absolutely miserable. It's almost impossible to talk to a person in billing and it's a challenge and a half just to pay your bill. They billed me THREE times for the same service, of which the first time I paid via their phone system and it didn't go through on their end. The second time I paid via credit card after waiting on hold for waaaay too long. Then they billed me a third time for the bill I had already paid. And then to top things off, they reported their "unpaid" invoice to a debt collector 4 MONTHS after the invoice was already taken care of. Will never use this office again. read more

VERY poor communication in this office. Was treated for an ACL injury and after surgery was required to receive a CPM machine, a new brace, crutches, and an ice machine. The office failed to communicate with the deliver of what was needed - for two days of recovery without necessary items I went back and forth with the office about when and where I would be receiving all that was needed for recovery. Dr Franks staff did not notify prolific that I was in fact, home from surgery, waiting for these things. Very disappointed with treatment and the lack of attention and urgency Coastal used to help patients during surgery recovery. WOULD NOT recommend anyone to this office for any injury. read more

The worst front office staff ever!!! The nurse put two different sized knee tendon straps on my daughter AND never gave us the packaging. The VERY NEXT business day I went in to exchange/return the wrong sized strap and the front office staff said they don't take used items back (they weren't ever used) and that we should have called when we realized it was the wrong size. Our appointment had been the last of the day so there was no point in calling after office hours as it wasn't an emergency. Instead, I went in person the NEXT business day. The front office was rude and just not very bright. Won't be dealing with Coastal again....ONS in Greenwich is much better. read more

I had shoulder surgery for partially torn rotator cuff, torn labrum, bursitis, and bone spurs in April 2019. I put it off as long as possible, since i was aware that the recovery from it is pretty miserable. But i reached the point where i was essentially unable to do much with my right (dominant) arm. Four and half months later, i couldnt be happier that i had the surgery. Dr Joshua Frank was outstanding at every step along the way--from treating me with cortisone while i was putting off the inevitable, to explaining the options i had, doing the surgery, and getting me on the path to recovery. Make no mistake about it--the few weeks/months right after the procedure is awful, it was difficult to sleep and Physical Therapy at the start was excruciating. But Dr Frank was terrific, and Coastal is a first class facility--very easy to make appointments, runs on time, never any thing but patient friendly. read more

As someone who works in healthcare and understands how medical offices function , I have been underwhelmed by the administrative staff at the Norwalk Office of Coastal Orthopedics. Hard to know what 4 people are doing at the check in desk- maybe online shopping. Instead of taking me right away to check me in and take my co-pay since I was the only person there, they made me wait for at least 5 minutes. Then when they did call me to check in they said they needed to reschedule my appointment because the doctor was not in. No one had called or attempted to call the two numbers that they have on file for me. This is after I received at least 3 confirmation notifications starting last week for this appointment. So I WASTED an hour out of my very oversubscribed day because of their inability to do their job properly. I have to say I was pretty annoyed. Annoyed sufficiently to write an on line review which I never do! I am actually seriously considering trekking into NYC to HSS to finish up my orthopedic issue despite finding the orthopedist here completely fine. At least I know that the administrative staff there will let me know if i have a cancelled appointment so i don't waste my time showing up! read more

Worst front office staff. My son was the first patient of the day for urgent care and somehow we waited 30 minutes to be seen. Another patient, who arrived after us, was taken before my son. When I inquired about why this happened, I was told that the second patien, miraculously, got ahead of us in the computer. What!?! They make Norwalk Hospital ER look better and better. read more
