My husband and I have used services from OI with several of the physicians have have had great service from all! Dr Brunz is exceptional! He takes the time necessary with each patient to determine best practice and outcomes. He is not quick to jump to surgery unless necessary and will try other modalities first in concert with the patients wishes! We so appreciate his professionalism, kindness and patience in working through the complicated back issues my husband has had! Great success has been gained in his back pain relief! What stands out with Dr a Brunz above the rest is you never feel rushed and you have time to get all your questions answered. He actually builds a relationship with his patients! Physicians like this are hard to come by!!! Dr Wingate is also a compassionate professional Physician that does not give up to meet the end goal of finding all the issues that are causing pain. He also takes the time necessary to listen to the patient and ask the questions to get to the bottom of the problem. Great follow up from him and his staff on calls from nursing and Pa with suggestions to help with pain control following surgery to speed healing! Thank You for that is key to a Patients healing process and compliance! Dr Adler did surgery on my husbands knees. He explained thoroughly the procedure and prepared us what was to come. As Dr Adler must have a lot of territory to cover Scott his Pa takes over for all follow up. Scott his Pa does a wonderful job in the follow up to keep him informed as to any complications and follow through. He had one knee done and a 2nd one to be done yet. The first one healed very well with only a small complication which the team addressed very quickly and all went very well. Dr Jones for hand surgery. Did bilateral carpal tunnel surgery. I am recovering from this surgery currently. They are very quick to respond again to questions about pain control and ways to speed recovery. As I am still recovering it is hard to determine how long this will take as I am a slow healer! So far very satisfied with Dr Jones and his PA. Dr Jones and his team take the time necessary to listen and address your medical complaint with professionalism and care. I have no doubt they will follow through to complete recovery from this surgery. As a patient we all must do our part in the therapies to reach maximum potential. We have been guided by the physical therapy department to do this. They also are exceptional. For many of the modalities they teach you exercises you can do at home on your own and not have to go in on a weekly basis. Yes this puts the ownership on the patient however saves dollars and I am all about that. That is a choice. Awesome physical therapy and occupational therapy departments. We would recommend OI for any orthopedic needs. They can take care of it for you. We say this due to our experiences as a Patient who have had experiences at other facilities and this facility is a well oiled machine. Dr. Dan Johnson is an orthopedic surgeon who works for Orthopedic Institute in Yankton, SD. I first met Dr. Johnson when referred by Dr. David Barnes, of Yankton Medical Clinic in August 2013. I was bothered by constant arthritic pain in my left ankle. We began with a least invasive use of cortisone shots, which were ineffective. We finally agreed on a fusion of my left lower leg to my foot. Through Dr. Johnson's skill as a surgeon, instructions for a gradual progression of weight bearing, and lots of patience, I gained full use of my left leg over the first 6 months. Over the next 6 months, I was able to use my left leg pain free and was comfortably uninhibited in my ability to function successfully in work and recreation. In February 2015, Dr. Dan Johnson, on call, did an emergency operation on the middle finger of my right hand due to Staph Infection. After 1 1/2 months, I have nearly complete range of motion in my right hand and infected finger. I am, of course, impressed with Dr. Dan Johnson as a surgeon. In addition, and most importantly, Dr. Johnson has shown himself to be an exceptional professional. He personally is a mild mannered, thoughtful, and respectful individual. He is courteous, not only to his patients, but also courteous to his colleagues and employees. His staff, also, exhibits the same courtesy, patience, and professionalism. My wife had terrible pain requiring both knees to be replaced (one at a time). The local Dr refused to do the surgery and did little to nothing for her pain (in the room for less than 10 minutes). After going to the emergency room twice we found the Orthopedic Institute had a satellite clinic in our town and checked it out. From the first visit it was obvious that every single person that worked there cared. The staff, the nurses and the Dr's all were way above what we had become accustomed to. Because of them my wife 1 year later has had both knees replaced and is pain free. I am not saying that it was easy but it made all the difference knowing that the people there cared and kept us fully informed. If you have a choice in hospitals we also recommend their Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls. I guarantee you will be impressed. Because of all of the above, when I had elbow pain, that over several months would not heal, I went to see the Drs at OI. In one visit they had a diagnosis, treatments that did not include medications and the only reason I would need to come back is if I did not see improvements. I wonder about these reviews when you read them if they are competitors or bias in some way but I assure you I am not. The first reviewer experiences are the exact and total opposite from my own. i was referred by a number of friends that had great healing experiences here and I was extremely impressed with the whole package. I was in surgery one day later than him or her so I cant see what could have changed.. The staff and facilities were professional in everyway. The rooms were amazing big private rooms. A place in the room for your wife to stay if needed. Food was hospital food but if you didnt like it they would bring you anything you wanted. Nurses were professional and fun so it made the stay rather enjoyable considering the circumstances. One thing I appreciated is the surgical wing is seperate from sick people such as flu and other infectious causes. I have and will continue to recommend this place to anyone needing care. The Doctors and nurses stated that I had a great healing attitude which made everyone's job easier. I even got a signed by all thank you card from the staff when I left. I looked for Drs. on Avera McKennen's site where they were all listed and what they specialized in. I needed carpal Tunnel surgery so I looked for one who specialized in hand surgery. I decided on David B. Jones, MD because all the previous reviews had given him nothing but five star ratings in several areas. He was very friendly, put me at ease to talk with him, answered any questions I had. His waiting room time was short and the clinic was clean and everyone working there were friendly and helpful. Dr. Jones and his support staff at the clinic as well as his support staff during my surgical procedure were very knowledgeable, made sure I was always comfortable and were well organized and professional yet knew how to put some humor in so things didn't seem overly serious. My hands are coming along great. I would recommend Dr. Jones to anyone thinking about hand surgery. read more

I was very pleased with Dr. Adler, after making the call to his office I had an appointment in 5 days. And Dr Adler performed total knee replacement a week later. I had my surgery on Weds and was going home on Friday, I really did not experience any pain to speak of. When talking to people about my knee replacement the most pain occurred after I got home and started therapy. Which I gave TLC a lot of credit for supporting and pushing me through it Which was a credit to them having me back to almost normal in 3 weeks. I was back to work part time in 4 weeks, and totally back in 6 weeks. I was walking with no walker or crutches after 3 weeks. I have no stiffness in the knee and total mobility and I'm 59 years old and my job is working on my feet for 8 hrs a day. My year checkup was excellent, and I would totally have Dr. Adler do my other knee when the time comes. read more

After a work related mishap in 2010, a friend who works at OI got me in to see Dr. Kieth Baumgarten. The diagnosis was a massive rotator cuff tear. It was so bad he was not sure it could be repaired. The surgery required 12 pins and several months of by-weekly rehab by the tremendous physical therapy staff at OI (special thanks to Matt Zens). Within 4 months I was back to 100% working at and golfing at my course in Brandon, SD. Fast forward 4 years, I managed to wreck my other shoulder. I did not hesitate to contact Dr B. Four months later, same results as before. I have his office # on speed dial for my next mishap. I would highly recommend Dr Baumgarten and OI to anyone. read more

My experience with Dr. Rothrock at OI has been completely positive. I developed a large Sarcoma tumor on my left thigh. Dr. Rothrock performed the surgery to remove this Cancer. This Cancer also resulted in a spot on my lung which was removed arthroscopically by a surgeon recommended by Dr Rothrock. I am currently Cancer free. I also consulted with him about the arthritis in my ankle resulting from a severe break in 2006. He gave me a cortisone injection and recommended an ankle brace that is giving me relief. He has a wonderful 'bedside' manner and I would definitely recommend him to anyone who could benefit from his skills. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Suga's for 15 years. He first repaired a rotator cuff injury for me. I was able to regain all range of motion and strength in the shoulder. When it came time to have knee replacement, he was my first choice. He replaced one total and one partial knee for me. I have full range of motion, no pain and do all the activities one expects from normal knees. I would highly recommend Dr. Suga. He tells it like it is---if you need surgery--he says so, and if you should first try alternatives such as physical therapy, he recommends it and sends you to specialists that can delay or prevent surgery. read more

I have been a patient at Orthopedic Institute in Sioux Falls, SD for close to 5 years. I had a total hip replacement in 2010 and the results were beyond my expectations. It was wonderful to walk without pain and without a limp! My most recent surgery was for a fusion of two vertebrae in my back, and again, I was /am very happy with the results. I am still healing, but it is going well. My surgeon for both surgeries was Dr. Matthew McKenzie, and I would and have recommended him to others who may need care such I as received. I have seen several doctors at the Orthopedic Institute and physical therapy everyone has been very helpful, courteous, and professional. I have had 3 surgeries by two doctors all very successful. and the Sioux Fall Specialty Hospital is like a 5 star hotel, service right there didn't even have to use the call light. Dr. Michael J. Adler replaced my left knee on 1/26/15. With his skills and that of his staff I've made a full and complete recovery.
