Everyone's body and skills are so different, and these instructors fully embrace that. Their goal in Krav Maga is not to teach us pretty kicks and impressive moves - their goal is to make sure we get home to our loved ones safely. It is all about developing your mindset, muscle memory, and instincts so that, when it really counts, you avoid the deer-in-headlights effect. Even as a beginner, I feel like I walk around my community in Manassas with more confidence and awareness and have learned how to reduce my chances of being a victim in the first place. If for some reason you don't feel like you have the time to commit to classes, I HIGHLY recommend you check out their monthly seminars! Women's Self Defense, Edged Weapon Defense, Car Jacking Defense, and the list goes on!! After watching many of the kid's classes, I love what I see! They're teaching kids how to use their voice, how to stand up for themselves and when it is appropriate to take physical action.

Highly recommend for adults and especially kids - the tactics you learn could save your life and it was interactive and super fun great workout on top of it as icing on the cake DEFINITELY at least go once to experience it yourself you won't be disappointed!

We have always wanted to put our kids in a martial arts program, but was never able to find the right fit for our family. When we decided to buy a house in Manassas in May of 2016, little did we know how much that move would change our lives. After we got settled, I began looking for a good martial arts school for my kids. I made personal visits to every martial arts school in the area... Mt. Kim and Master Jeon deliver a quality, caring, loving and challenging program. Every challenge and obstacle is overcome through encouragement and motivation. Master Jeon will push you to your limits and really show you exactly how much you can do. My kids started in Aug of 2016. They have grown soooo much! Each of them with their own special personality, Master Jeon and Mrs. Jeon get to know our kids and I really believe in my heart, they see our kids as an extension of their own family. In Dec of 2016, my kids finally talked me into taking class with them. It has been life changing for me. Master Jeon was patient with me in helping me to accomplish all that I have and helping me to get beyond the obstacles I faced. I was injured in the line of duty and never believed after 9 knee operations, ankle reconstructions, that I could ever "do this". I find myself every day doing things I never believed my body would again! All thanks to Mt. Kim Martial Arts! Their name says it all "Spirit". They have it in spades! We take many of the TaeKwonDo classes as well as their Comprehensive Martial Arts (which is their Hapkido and Judo classes). My kids also attend the before and after school program! They absolutely love it and never want to leave the school!! If you are looking for a challenging program where you have to earn your way to Black Belt and beyond... if you are looking for a school who will treat your kids with respect, love and encouragement... if you are looking for a way to get in shape and off the couch... most importantly, if you are looking to make a lasting positive change in your life the lives of your family, you can't do better than Mt. Kim. Hope to see you in class with my family!

Finding motivation in a child can be a challenge, but all the instructors really do a phenomenal job of balancing discipline and fun. The facilities are clean and easy to access. The prices are so incredibly reasonable and a very good option to provide an extra activity for kids. They seem to provide an engaging summer camp as well.

I'm very pleased to see that he finally was able to open his own independent dojo to celebrate traditional Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate, as well as the rich cultures that Okinawa brings. The Cultural Center has many artifacts in a museum style in a side room. There's also many people from the community like the DC Okinawan Kai who utilizes the space. It is a safe and welcoming space for not just Okinawan people, but those interested in learning more about the culture and tradition. This spacious dojo has two kicking/punching bags ready for training, many talented instructors, and classes for children and adult alike! I am excited for what's to come for this OKCC! I hope new students can find their new karate home like it's been for me throughout the years!

During that time, he hosted some of the Okinawan masters at his dojo, which is how we met. Those were great classes, and when it was time for me to find a new dojo, I joined Master Folta at his new location. It's a fine space, and the training there is authentic and excellent. Master Folta is kind and genuine, while also encouraging everyone to reach for the highest standards. His careful eye has improved my karate in many ways, large and small. I was careful in my choice of schools, and picked the best one in the area. I've seen his students, both kids and adults, get better over time and stay with the program. If you're serious about learning karate that works, this is the place I recommend. There is a lot to learn, and this is the real deal.

There is always a good number of coaches on the mats so that each child can receive additional personalized guidance. My sister had searched high and low for a reputable place to put the kiddies in and happened upon the Karate Day Camp. With all the foolishness in the world, this Auntie is happy to know that her nieces are protected and cared for by "Handsome" MMA trained professionals that could snap an assailants wind pipe with one quick karate chop. (Yep that's how I feel .. smile) The girls get the required exercise time and calorie burn that most American children refuse to get with that unhealthy connection to tablets and video games that prevent them from riding bikes and visiting playgrounds. I watched through a glass window as children completed sessions of bear crawls, mountain climbers, side rolls and various other exercises that would make the average child cry (small laugh). They listened to their Sensei and showed him respect during his instructions... another attribute lacking in our youth today. My nieces seemed happy as they engaged with other staff and older school aged teenagers hired during the summer for additional help. This establishment reinforces discipline and the instructors convey any and all concerns to the twin about the girls. A perfect co-parenting relationship. The nieces informed me that they also attend fun-filled field trips and also have many trips to the pool. The Dojo Mommy helps the little ones change so no parent need fret about the thought of their little girls interacting with male staff in the bathrooms. Also of note, the facility is super clean, offers an activity area upstairs and rents their space for Birthday parties. My sister invited me to her Boot Camp session and after one hour of circuit training I was sweating up a storm. Instructor Mike had these legs, arms and thighs on fire. I was glad to know that while the girls received their workouts, classes here, were created to keep parents and aunties Just as Fit. We know that all great things must come to an end and I hate that my sister will have to leave this amazing place when she moves with her military husband next year. Next year my nieces will be more fit, more confident and prepared for self defense. You can tell the instructors love what they do, love the children and know that the children love them. On my last day of vacation we picked up the girls and I watched some MMA students completing warm ups with their instructor and created some new fitness goals for myself. Kaizen MMA has what you're looking for and more, highly recommended! Da Islandgal29412

I used to love this location (Fairfax) of Kaize . However, recent changes have made me decide to…read morepull my kids out and go to a different location. My kids are in the youngest age group (under 7). They used to be taught by adult Sempais, and I could see them gaining skills, self control, respect, etc. But this location recently changed to allowing older kids to serve as Sempais and run the class. These kids don't have any experience with teaching children - they're still children themselves. The focus of classes has shifted from learning skills to just "conditioning" - running, sit-ups, push-ups, etc. And these child instructors just don't have the self-control to serve as instructors. At the end of most classes, the Sensei/Sempai ends with a fun game to conclude on a fun note. But recently, the child Sempai leading a dodgeball-type game got carried away and way too competitive and was throwing the ball full force into little kids' faces. I saw a 4 yr old get slammed in the face (by the Sempai) so hard she fell down. And the Sempai appeared to like it and continued to throw full full force at other 4, 5, and 6 year olds. That was the breaking point for me. The other Kaizen locations are good, and we'll stick to those ones.
