Chicken pie - yummy!
Daira R.

Ate here recently and was a little bummed. I have a shellfish allergy and all of the fried foods go in the same frier! It was such a bummer. It felt like 90% of the menu was fried. I eventually ordered the chicken pot pie, and it was fine. However, it was definitely disappointing not having more options available to me. My husband said the curly fries were great lol. I'm sure he'll probably eat here again, but I probably won't be returning

Yeah, not feeling it…read more Moloney's is somewhere I drifted away from after never leaving fully satisfied. It seems to have a reputation amongst the people that go there as an institution. As if no other place existed to get drinks, Moloney's it is! This place just doesn't have what I look for in a bar. I'm not a bar snob, hell, I'm not even a big bar goer, I'm just a guy who seems to like a different kind of atmosphere. I suppose this place is just a matter of taste on how you prefer bars. I love pubs, Irish pubs at that because of what they carry. Irish whiskey and dark stouts are what make my life complete. And their drink selection is impressive, but for those who don't love standing in long lines or fighting through tons of people to a speedwell, it just doesn't mean much. And call me old, but I've spent more time on my feet on Moloney's then I have at any other bar in Kaiserslautern. Unless you're ready to get there early, or seriously fight for some table space, it's not worth it. I don't drink to get drunk, and I don't like to get rowdy when I drink. Moloney's caters to both. Like a previous reviewer said, you can actually do shots with the owner and staff. For some people that's a great way to have fun and meet people, I have no problems with that. For me, I see that as a huge red flag for industry unprofessionalism. I think Moloney's knows their target audience, and I'm not that person. I can't hardly fault a place for trying to be something to everyone, because it's obviously doing well. My two-cents? This place is awful.

Carroll's - The beacon of hope for an IPA in Germany: Carroll's Irish Pub.

I was a few days into my wedding trip to Karlsruhe when my withdrawals for IPAs started to kick in…read more Don't get me wrong, the Pilsners and Wheat beers of Deutschland were solid but they just didn't pack that flavor punch that I was accustomed to as found in the craft brews of the U.S. of A. In an effort to satisfy my craving for an IPA, my friend (the brother of the bride) and I hopped on the terrific Karlsruhe street trolley and headed to a craft beer bar near the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. After a walk around the block, we finally found the bar but it was closed. As if sent by God himself, our disappointed faces turned hopeful as we saw the sign for Carroll's just down the block. Could an Irish pub offer the IPA satisfaction that I so desperately desired? One look at a chalkboard near the bar and my prayers were answered: "Brooklyn Brewery East IPA, €4.50." I went to college on the East Coast, so I was stoked to see an offering by the well-respected Brooklyn Brewery that I had come to love. To find one of their quality brews all the way in Germany made things even sweeter. Amazingly, I had never enjoyed their East IPA before and as I poured it into a pint glass I was quite eager. When the hoppy liquid goodness hit my tastebuds, I was instantly back in my happy place. Yes, it was strange being in an Irish pub in Germany drinking an American craft beer. At the same time though it was just what I needed. The homeyness of Carroll's provided the perfect environment for such a random moment in my life and for that I will always be thankful. In addition, I was honoring my German and Irish ancestors at the same time in this Karlsruhe establishment, an historical 2-for-1.
