I'll definitely be back to try the shawarma. Truly lovely business owners. If you can be anything, be kind :)

The hummus with homemade pita was very tasty. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but the kitchen was quite slow and we had to wait for quite awhile for our food. It seemed to us that the kitchen could do with an extra person during peak hours. The decor has Middle Eastern motifs and the furniture is comfortable, but basic. There are only about 5 tables indoors so the place can fill up in a hurry. There is an outdoor patio where you can also be served, but it would benefit by having umbrellas or a large awning to provide shade during the summer. The tables out there are low and small so larger tables would also help. Overall, Habibis is a nice addition to the restaurant scene in Courtenay, but unless they get more kitchen staff or you go during slow periods, be prepared to wait. One drawback is that their online presence so far is only a Facebook account which, if you're not a Facebook user, means that you can't access their website or read their menus.

The food took quite a while to come out considering there were no more than 14 people in the restaurant. Server was nice and answered the questions we had. BBQ ribs: 3.5/5 tender and fall off the bone. The flavour was ok. The sauce was good but the meat itself wasn't flavored well without the sauce. Chicken liver parfait: 5/5 this was my highlight. Generous portion of liver. Beautifully plated with sweet, savoury, components including different textures. Bread was soft, fluffy and warm. Jamaican jerk chicken rice ice bowl: 2/5 Came a bit confusing. We had to clarify with the sever that this was indeed the jerk chicken bowl. Nothing screamed Jamaican. It was more Taiwanese fried chicken with a kicked up Tabasco sauce on top of Chinese fried rice with a bit of dry jerk seasoning sprinkled into it. Flavor wise, it wasn't bad but Jamaican jerk flavours it was not. For $26 I wanted full Jamaican flavours. Would I come back? Probably not. Would I stop people from going? Also probably not.

We ordered BBQ ribs, Brioche with chicken liver parfait and the Jamaican jerk chicken rice bowl. The BBQ ribs and chicken liver parfait were played nicely and tasted decently good. The ribs were tender, though they could have used a bit more seasoning. Unfortunately, the jerk chicken rice bowl was disappointing. When it arrived I was confused, as it looks like a Taiwanese chicken fried rice. I confirmed with the waitress that it indeed was the jerk chicken rice bowl, but it looked nothing like what I expected from that dish. The rice bowl tasted like Taiwanese-style fried chicken rice with a lot of added spiciness. Spiciness alone does not make something Jamaican jerk chicken. Since I didn't get what I ordered...I have to give a relatively low score. My recommendation is to stick with the Western-style dishes here and avoid anything that seems "exotic".

Staff was professional, the owner greeted and welcomed us as we arrived and when we left. Food was outstanding! The lamb was delicious and well seasoned, sides very tasty and the baklava fresh and a great finish to the meal. It's not cheap, but well priced for this level of atmosphere, service and quality of food. Highly recommend...but probably best to call ahead and get a reservation.

Also, the presentation of the pita bread was unique. Toasted, basted in olive oil, and sliced into 3 sections like "spears". Overall, a great appetizer. At the behest of our lovely waitress, we ordered the #1 Combination Platter because it had both the roast lamb & moussaka, two things I wanted to try the most. We also made one substitution - instead of calamari we asked to replace it with garlic prawns. The roast lamb was fall-off-the-bone, but not super flavorful. The moussaka was (surprisingly) a bit sweet, which wasn't the flavor profile I was expecting. The dolmades weren't great and the spanakopita was not impressive. Having said that, the garlic prawns were STELLAR. If I were to come back here, I'd order the garlic prawns with rice and extra garlic sauce. It was incredibly tasty and very satisfying.

At a…read morerestaurant of this caliber, where the dining experience comes at a premium, we expected service to match. Unfortunately, it fell far short of what one would reasonably expect from a fine dining establishment. My husband and I had a very disappointing experience here this evening, especially considering the price point. We spent $200 on a mussel appetizer, halibut, and lobster, expecting a fine dining experience--but the service fell far below that standard. As people in recovery sober for over three and a half years, we specifically ordered virgin drinks, yet were served mussels prepared in a wine-based sauce recommended by the server. I also received the wrong drink twice. Most frustrating of all, we waited over an hour for our entrées while a nearby table of six was seated, served, and finished their meal before ours even arrived. When we tried to understand what maybe taking place behind the scenes and asked if they were short staffed with the chefs in the kitchen. We were met with rudeness and told our seafood needed its own ovens to cook in. For being the only ones in the restaurant filled with a horrible ambience I can see why others have said the same. It's always best to check the reviews. They may just favor locals. We were truly looking forward to this meal, but left feeling disappointed and overlooked. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this restaurant and would advise others to dine elsewhere.
