I told them a few scents I usually like, and they curated a selection of niche perfumes that were exactly my vibe. I have never been taken care of like that with customer service. My best friend is a fragrance ho so when he visited NYC after five years or so he had to go here. It was a very hot day in NYC so Soho was just a mile and a half just walking around with the slow tourists walking around and buying maybe one or two small things... Clearly we can tell I was in a mood. Anyways, we went here after Apple Maps told us it was at some other location *make sure you look up the address in Google* My friend took his time picking out his cologne of the moment and I almost peer pressured him to get a very expensive one, but the ppl that worked there were understanding and told him to take a min, walk around with the cologne on him and walk outside. It turned out that the cologne smelt similar to his usual cologne that was half the cost. Personally appreciated the staff's honesty instead of just gaslighting my friend to get something more expensive. Sometimes, you find places that aren't after your money or snobby. If I actually cared about fragrances (I am a basic, mainstream B), this would be my go to place. My friend loved his experience here so 5 stars and a half! read more

While this store has an impressive collection of fine fragrances, I'm writing this review because other customers deserve to know what kind of service to expect here, especially considering all the five star reviews. We visited this location to purchase a fragrance on a vacation in NYC. We tested it in store, liked what we smelled, and made the purchase. When we got home and used the actual bottle, it smelled completely different. Not a subtle variation. A completely different fragrance. We reached out to the store to address this issue. Their response? We were told that testers are expected to smell different from the actual product you purchase, and the best they would do is offer us 10% off our next purchase, no exchange or return options. Testers exist specifically so customers know exactly what they're buying. The product we received does not match what we tested. When we brought this to their attention, instead of attempting to resolve the issue or investigate what went wrong, we were given an explanation that essentially places the responsibility on us for expecting consistency between the tester and the actual product, refused a return, and offered 10% on a future purchase. The lack of accountability here is remarkable. If this is the standard of customer service and the type of response customers receive when there's a legitimate problem, I can't recommend shopping here. Visited Osswald and both Adam & Danny were extremely helpful! They both went above and beyond in helping me choose the perfect fragrance, making sure I was satisfied with my purchase. This store offers a wide range of fragrances, including niche brands that aren't easily found elsewhere. I ended up purchasing the Sirene - Fragrance Du Bois, a fruity woody scent that can be worn day to night, not too overwhelming either! This review is for the Mullberry location which doesn't seem to have its own Yelp. I chose Osswald over other niche fragrance bars in the area because I wanted a relaxed browsing experience to explore a bit on my own, as the reviews here suggest. Maybe the Broadway location would have been more my speed? I described what I was looking for and the sales associate threw a million sample strips with no labels at me rapid-fire, so fast I couldn't keep up both to smell or to ask questions about the brands he was pulling -- he didn't offer any explanation, and it didn't appear I was encouraged to browse on my own. Then in walked a loud group of friends of the store clerks (even though it says 7 person limit on the door). The guy helping me was clearly distracted and wanting to socialize with his buddies. Maybe the other location is a better layout and experience - this one was cramped, crowded, and annoying. I won't be going back. read more

Another great fragrance shop with unique bottles from around the globe. It was fun trying out new scents and ordering some to be shipped. They were very knowledgeable about every fragrance in the store and were able to recommend some unique fresh and citrusy types of scents. Amazing customer service! Both times I went in, the sales associates were so nice and attentive and also knowledgeable. The first time was merely to browse and they walked me through the concept and philosophies of the brands that I had been interested in. The second time I knew exactly what I wanted but they were so lovely in showing me others that were similar so that I can really do a good compare/contrast. I also ordered another bottle from their website and not only was the shipping SO FAST, I was so impressed with the beautiful way they packaged my box (tissue paper fastened with stickers), but they also included a sample size of the scent I bought (so I can test out without opening the actually item in case I need to return) and also another sample. This place is a fragrance lover's paradise! The collections they have here are outstanding. I collect fragrances and Osswalds is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to purchase from. Not only is the staff very friendly and lets you take your time with testing samples. The atmosphere of the store is very luxurious (just like the fragrances they carry) and open enough to try out many new scents. Some of the many houses they carry are Amouage, Maison Francis Kurkdijian, Xerjoff, Initio, Indult, Roja, Parfums de Marly... As you can see, it is a well curated selection of high quality houses. They aren't pushy at all and are very knowledgable about the many fragrances in the store and can offer recommendations based on your preferences if you don't already know what you are looking for. I even discovered a house that was new to me (Thameen) here! I highly recommend this place. You'll without a doubt find many fragrances that are full bottle worthy. read more

edit to this review. Sorry- but after purchasing two of Edward Bess's fragrances here and loving them the bottles spray malfunctioned. This happened to my friends purchase of the edward Bess fragrance Genre as well. We were both very dissappointed and loved the fragrances. The store made an effort to trace the problem back to it's distributor but nothing ever came to resolution. Nothing. I am out 500.00 on two unusable bottles of fragrance and my friend is out 250.00. We went to Osswald based on their Yelp reviews. I really wanted a unique perfume that wasn't being worn by every other woman. Let me say - I have worn perfume forever, but it's always been perfumes offered at department stores. When I looked at the reviews for Osswald, it centered around the wonderful, knowledgeable staff. I now get it. I was helped by Josie and got second opinions from Dustin (who also helped my husband find an amazing shaving product) who were sincerely interested in finding the fragrance that worked for me. Although I don't know much about fragrances, they were patient, unpretentious and genuinely had a passion for helping us. As I was checking out, Josie even asked if I wanted to try any samples. So I chose some scents that might be in the running for next time. I would recommend Osswald to anyone looking for an amazing, non-mainstream fragrance. I know I'll go back! read more

Where do I begin...first of all I have visited almost every niche house in NY, MIAMI, LA but when I walked into Osswald I had an overwhelming sense that I was visiting friends. They are super friendly, knowledgable and understood my taste and also my husband's in the first 15 minutes. It was well spent time and purchased a fantastic fragrance, befriended guest niche strangers. One of three stores in Manhattan to get Francis Kurkdjian. They carry lots of exclusive fragrances and know them well. We had a product issue and it was dealt with professionally, and it was most likely not their fault to begin with. One minor minus is that their return policy is not as good as the major retailers on 5th, but this is understandable since they are not as big either (sometimes be empathetic toward small businesses?). So nothing serious to complain and probably some credits implies 5 stars. read more

One of the best perfume houses in NYC. I came here in search of my favorite Escentric Molecules fragrance, and was pleased to find they had the entire collection. The store itself is stunning-bright and spacious, with beautiful merchandising. Osswald carries several exclusive fragrances that I have never seen before, as well as a wide variety of interesting home fragrances. Josie, the manager, was so lovely. I walked in because this is the only place in the city that sells Thameen. My aunt recently arrived from London with a scent I hated, but nevertheless Osswald sells the brand. I was immediately greeted by Jose, an amazing, very kind salesperson. He was not "pushy" which I absolutely hate when choosing a perfume and he not only assisted me but also gave me 4 samples so that I can choose the scent intelligently. He also suggested two other perfumes I have never heard of that were simply amazing! I will absolutely be returning to purchase my perfume once I have decided on it! The antithesis of MinNY in terms of decor; it's bright, warm, elegant, and inviting. My sales rep, Josie, was extremely friendly and knowledgable. Upon entering the store, she greeted me and gave me suggestions to the perfume house of a fragrance that I wanted to pick up. Which led the fragrance discussions and her giving me scents from other houses to try out. I was going to pick up a bottle of Rhaedon Tabac Rouge. Instead, I walked out with a Rhaedon Oriental Mint and Parfums de Nicolai New York. Along with a few bottles of samples I will test on my skin before my inevitable return to buy more bottles. Sometimes it feels like customer service is a dying art. It is so rare to go into a shop with sales reps who are both extremely knowledgable and down to earth. Such was my experience today with Josie. She really knows her perfumes and has a delightful personality. I am terrible about mispronouncing brand names and whereas in some places salespeople can treat you snobbishly for that, she and I just had a quick giggle about it and moved on to the business at hand- sampling amazing perfumes. She helped me figure out the best order for testing the fragrances and truly seemed excited to see how things smelled on me. With her help I was able to find a wonderful new fragrance. Osswald is one of those special perfume shops, along with MiN, that carry a line of men's and women's fragrances that you can only get in two or three places in the United States. I was helped by Clement, who was not only helpful but also very knowledgeable about the fragrances I wanted to sample. In the end I got a bottle of Parfumerie Generale Iris Oriental, but I so enjoyed smelling the Roja Dove and MDCI perfumes. Had the most WONDERFUL experience here!!! The ladies who helped me were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They both also offered many beautiful suggestions of fragrances they liked. Not an ounce of pretentious energy from either of them. Some of the fragrances are exclusively sold in Osswald..you won't find them anywhere else in the US. All are high quality and so unique. They allow you to take 3 samples for free of ANY fragrances you care for and any additional after that you will have to pay for based on the price of the scent.
