Oh I had an amazing experience here and left with a perfume that I had never heard of before. Pacific Rock Flower by Goldfield and Banks. I went alone which meant J could really take my time selecting a scent. I think Nicholas was my sales person and he was very lovely. I shared my favorite perfumes with him and he looked at the notes in those and based on that he made some fabulous recommendations. I will definitely return! read more

While the selection of fragrances were lovely, the staff was not! I've been twice to give it a chance, but it was the same. The first time, a staff member tried helping out someone who was traveling and I overheard her say "do you NOT know what an atomizer is?" I left immediately after that! This time, a man with glasses was so rude to me. He asked if I needed help after being super standoffish with me and when I asked if they give samples, he said "no, we don't." And just walked off. This was my second time visiting Scent Bar, and both times I felt the staff weren't very welcoming or interested in helping me explore. On my most recent visit, I asked about their tea-inspired fragrances. When I mentioned I'd like to smell all of their tea scents, I was told I couldn't--which was confusing since there seemed to be fewer than 10 in total. I ended up only trying about four and they were the ones I was specifically looking for with not much exploration. Overall, I left feeling like the staff didn't really encourage exploration, which is disappointing since part of the fun of a fragrance shop is discovering new scents. On top of that, the shop itself often feels so saturated with fragrance that it can be unpleasant. When the space isn't ventilated well, all the scents mix together and become overwhelming instead of enjoyable. read more

Loved working with Evie. I'm not to easy to please because I love fragrance and have a large collection which started in my tweens. And I have strong likes and dislikes. I'm always looking for something niche and unusual that is subtle and close to the skin. She understood that. We settled on ten and then whittled down to four I could wear for a few hours and see how they evolved. Sure enough it was the very first one I smelled that I liked. Went in on a weekday afternoon (5/5) and was pretty surprised by the unprofessionalism of the staff. They seemed more interested in talking to each other than helping customers, and were pretty curt when I tried to engage beyond asking to sample specific bottles. Maybe it's not that big of a deal--but the store brands itself as a personalized "fitting" experience, and there's often a wait just to get in. read more

Everytime I am in New York (two to three times a year), I visit the Scent Bar. It is truly one of my favorite places in the city. I have purchased some of my signature scents (Dom Rosa, Musc Panache, Parisian Musc) through the kind and expert guidance of the employees there. For this particular visit, I had the pleasure of working with both Rose and Vijay who were not only knowledgable but willing to give me their frank and honest opinion. I was touched by the time they shared with me (not a unknown of experience there) and their expert noses! Scent Bar is a boutique experience unlike any other I have experienced in the United States or Europe. The vast quantities and different array of colognes and parfums that they stock make them unique and a must visit. If you are in New york and love fragrance, you must go in person. While the location is small, the experience is huge. read more

I was SUPER excited excited to come here. I've not been able to make it my last couple trips to the city and finally had time today and let me tell you, I couldn't have been more disappointed. The fact that almost everything is behind the counter and sorted by fragrance style/notes wouldn't be as bad if the staff gave you any sort told attention at all. When I got there I was the only customer so I expected I would get some really cool personalized recommendations. Instead I got a bored girl on her phone saying let me know if you need anything. I waved around a bit and sniffed a couple of the bottles they had sitting out. I then went back and asked if she liked a certain note. Her answer was not really but she sprayed a couple on tester cards for me to check out then went back to her phone. After that about 5 more people walked in and she had to get a bit more attentive. A bit. Anyways I ended up just leaving and going into many of the other fragrance stores in the area that were more than happy to give me some attention and help me out. I had been anxiously awaiting my NYC trip to finally get to smell some of the niche perfumes that are not accessible to me in VA. I went to Bergdorf on 5th ave and had the BEST experience with the lead in their Fragrance department. I was excited for the opportunity to have another great experience with fragrance in soho, especially with a business that has so many houses. It was Friday, 3/20/2026, mid-day. Not busy at all, there was one other duo at the counter. The two workers behind the counter were so so unwelcoming. They discussed coworkers, someone calling out, etc. I had questions and was excited to maybe have a recommendation or two from Scent Bar. The worker had the most pretentious air - you know the vibe. We stayed for about 10 minutes and I really tried to get to a good place with him because I needed his help, but I eventually gave up. I wanted to walk out with a bottle of perfume, but decided I couldn't give my business to Scent Bar. It was so disappointing! I highly recommend trying to get in with El-Aton at Bergdorf. He is so knowledgeable and took us through the whole fragrance department to help us find new unique scents from niche brands, decanting small samples for us here and there read more

A perfect place for a fragrance aficionado or "fraghead." I came to visit this location since I am familiar with the owner, luckyscent.com. Once I first arrived at the location, I had to wait a bit to enter the store due to the heavy traffic on a Saturday visit. I was perfectly fine to wait to enter and receive guidance. I can say this, the staff is well educated in fragrance and personable. They could tell from my asks that I was familiar with different senses and fragrance families. Unfortunately, I do not remember the name of the woman that assisted me. I walked out with two scents and samples in the Iris family. FYI, if you are on the site and looking for a particular scent, I would call first to see if they have it in stock. The gentlemen who was working on October 11, 2021 around 3pm... thank you. As a visitor to NYC, you have made our visit a splendid one and it really made our trip worthwhile. Amazing customer service and knowledge. I've been into fragrance for about 15 years. Every retailer employee has never been a match for me. They are just there to look pretty, persuade and get the sale. The gentlemen at Scent Bar KNOWS HIS STUFF. I have finally met a sales rep whom is able to put me in my place. My experience here was like aggressively bad which is a shocker considering all any employee here has to do is pull perfumes and talk about them. Was helped (not really) by this employee in store today. They were dressed in a t shirt and jeans (from what I remember) and had an Afro. (Using visual descriptors as I never even asked for their name because it seemed like the worst pain in their life to speak to me, so it didn't even get that far.) The employee told me to walk to the end of the bar to be helped,so I did. They asked me "what are you looking for today?" With the most pained fake smile in the world. I instantly was wondering if something had happened to them, or a rude customer interaction had occurred. I looked around and saw no sign of either. The employee proceeded to pull the ONLY three perfumes I asked to get a spray of in the most irritated form (not a single word when asked to smell it, just a blank stare, a nod, a spritz on paper and giving it to me to smell.) and INSTANTLY pull out their phone to do who knows what the second I started smelling the paper. Didn't seem interested in helping with the actual scent "BAR" aspect of the business. Make no mistake my fellow yelpers, I am not a lunatic customer. I'm your overly kind -make employees and any and all service workers feel appreciated because I understand the job- type of customer. So I knew it wasn't me because several times I tried to plaster on the most intense "I am a kind human person please treat me as such" smile I could even manage. After 3 perfumes pulled for me and more blank stares and going on their phone (ignoring me completely unless I spoke basically) I gave up and asked for a bottle of what I came for. Lame. Oh, and they also barked at this poor guy next to me, saying "DON'T spray there, spray AWAY from the table!" As if the guy's name was Bill Scent Bar. Like how was he supposed to know?? I went to scent bar in LA when I lived there for the last three years. The experience is extremely different and very very disappointing in NYC. I'm glad I had realistic expectations! I found the staff to be knowledgeable and most were friendly. It is the busiest perfume store that I've been to so I understand that employees can get fatigued but they still were helpful. A few gems were suggested that I got samples of and I bought one scent. Nice niche selection. It's just a very rushed store and there's usually a line outside. Overall a solid 3 - maybe the option to order paid samples and ship to your house could help increase sales and allow the customer to feel like they are getting more of an experience and push it to a 4 or 5. read more

I was shopping for my mother who is about to be 94 and you nothing about colognes or perfumes. This shop is small but Have a wide selection categorized by fragrance such as citrus sandalwood etc. The salesman couldn't be more helpful and spent time suggesting different colognes. I finally narrowed it down to two which he kindly gave me two samples of to make sure she was happy before purchasing which was great since these colognes were not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. read more

We entered the establishment excited to pick out our scents. We were matched with Lance, who neither greeted nor spoke to us. Instead, he spoke to his colleague and ignored our presence. When we asked how the process was supposed to go, another colleague stepped in and said customers should figure it out themselves. Disgusted, we left and will never support this store or brand again. Update: I've actually read some of the other reviews on this website, and they're far more eloquent than I was in my review below. I have a feeling if I'd worn something nice rather than my joggers when I went to visit I would've gotten much better service. But truly that shouldn't matter. The truth of it is I think I'm just going to keep buying samples from luckyscent.com rather than walk into this place again. Bummer. Original: This place isn't really for people who know their tastes and have a good nose. It's the commercial brick and mortar end of a (very decent) website for people who want to come in and smell perfumes they can't/won't afford and waste the time of people who pop in knowing what they want. I show up and after waiting 15 min to be served and only then to be ignored flat out/ willful overlooked by a young woman with a Madonna/Grim reaper tattoo. (Hey I too have bad tattoos from when I was younger, but at least I have the decency to cover them up and not subject them as a visual assault on everyone's eyeballs.) I decided to leave and come back later, which I did, right before they closed and finally got some help from another associate. She had dark hair she was quite lovely and very helpful. She's the only reason this place gets two stars. Over all, they seemed more interested in garnering the attention of the Nolita tourists, weekend window shoppers than actually selling perfume to people, who know what they like, buy it and got on with the matter of life. It's lucky scents in real life! I was so excited to check it out as I salivate over the perfumes that are on the lucky sense website. I knew ahead of time that the space was small and that you are asked to spend 20 minutes or less. That way it kept the flow of customers going. I had an idea of what I wanted to sample but to be honest when I got in there there were a few other individuals already there and there was only one employee so I wanted to minimize the amount of neediness. I really wanted to buy Xerjoff Itálica and while their inventory said they had some in stock, when the sales person went to look, he couldn't find it. He even closed the store so he could look in their storage area but couldn't find it. I appreciated him looking but I was a little bummed. I did end up buying one of my second choice scents though. I would have liked to spend more time sampling I had an appointment to make a few blocks away. read more

Sooooo I came into this cute perfume store with my best friend to help her find a gift for her mom, but ended up getting a few early bday goodies for myself. What sold me on the products was the great customer service by Mable. She had so much patience, knowledge, and recommendations for my budget that I couldn't choose, so I got them all. BJ was also great in helping finish up our transaction. All in all it was a great experience and I left out with some amazing smell goods (perfume) that are unique. Thank you so much for your help! It's marvelous that Lucky Scent, the quintessential store for niche perfumes, scented products and samples has finally opened a store in the Big Apple. Located on Elizabeth Street in Nolita which has several other parfumeries on this very street, this treasure is an oasis and one that I was thrilled to visit last week. On one wall, perfumes are displayed according to notes which Ezra with great patience read out and then helped me sample them. Two samples are given free and four if a purchase is made. I was happy to spend almost an hour here and will be visiting again very soon. read more

A nice small place in the Bowery area. The people there were very knowledgeable and polite. For those who purchase colognes/perfumes, the overall environment is not overwhelming with scents (as opposed to Macy's...no knock on Macy's but you if you know, you know). I chose to go there dressed down because it was too hot to sweat out my nice shirts and pants. Also, I wanted to see how I would be received. I've seen reviews on Google and other sites that stated that other customers were not treated as nicely so, I figured let's test the waters. I'm not sure if it was just because of my overall demeanor or what but everyone in there was great. I wasn't rushed nor ignored. I came in and was allowed to look at the scents and try a few. I already knew what I was going to purchase but I wanted to see if I could be swayed to get more. I was able to get Molecule 01 (If you haven't tried this, it's worth it. Hands down. Nice base scent that could be played with other light scents). I asked about other summer scents and was given samples of Citrus Riviera and Ambra Calabria (2 great scents). The scents were organized by categories and the options were larger than Macy's options. I will be returning for those 2 scents and maybe a third. read more

I was in the area shopping and I came across this store. This was my first time hearing about this place but, I have shopped online before years ago. The person on staff was very nice and polite. He asked me what my favorite notes are and took down a few bottles to let me smell them. I didn't feel rushed or unwelcome but, I had to cut my visit short as the snow was coming down hard.
