Solid dinner in Siracusa. Make sure you make a reservation - we watched several tables get turned away, even early in the evening.
We ask our hotel to make a reservation for us and to ask first whether kids were welcomed (and if there were options for them, knowing they would try but be unlikely to eat many of the dishes on hand). We were told that kids would be happily accommodated.
Upon arrival, there was definitely some confusion about who would be eating the main dinner, who would not. It took them nearly 90 minutes to bring my son's pasta (they brought my daughter's during our second course), even after several requests and clarification. Dishes were very, very slow going in general, so be prepared for a long night. The only option they offered our kids was pasta with tomato sauce, but I do understand they were making a concession for us in coming at all (however, if they aren't interested in kids coming, they could have told our hotel).
Much of the food was very good. The raw items were terrific, the mussels were wonderful, the pasta course was very good and the fried items were quite good. The mozzarella with swordfish was an odd combination but I'll give it a pass. It was a TON of food, so come hungry.
Wine selection was excellent and very affordable. We were not offered dessert even though I believe it was included with the meal, so we asked for something (and they made it clear that they would only bring one item).
Overall, the hiccup in service was very trying at the time, my son starving and even with notification that they had make a mistake on the pasta order, it still didn't come for some 45 minutes after that point. No offers to make it right; our son was so hungry at that point it spoiled the evening.
That said, if you are a couple and want a wide array of seafood at a truly impressively affordable price in Siracusa, it's a good option. read more
