Trattoria di Sor Paolo is located in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a small province in the Chianti region, outside of Florence. The restaurant is located away from the touristy sights of Florence so the majority of diners are locals instead of tourists. Our tour guide ordered for our table and we were treated to a delicious spread of Tuscan treats. Our lunch included the local chianti wine, crostini with chicken liver pate, white Tuscan beans, and tomatoes, Pappa al Pomodoro (Tuscan tomato and bread soup), and Pappardelle al Ragu Di Cinghiale (fettuccine with wild boar ragu). The dishes were so simple, yet so delicious! The high quality, fresh ingredients stood out on their own in Sor Paolo's traditional Tuscan dishes. If you are in the San Casciano in Val di Pesa area I highly recommend dining at this wonderful restaurant!

We feel so fortunate to be able to share this foodie experience. Now I will be day dreaming about the creamy fresh pastas, savory chicken liver crostini, moist crispy skinned chicken, and the sweetest wines! Our time was set for 7:30, but we arrived about 15 minutes early and they gladly seated us anyway. Our table was downstairs in the basement area, and let me tell you something... these little Italian restaurants have some of the coolest downstairs dining spaces on the planet. This one may honestly be my favorite I've visited so far. It was cozy, packed full of character, and had that old-world atmosphere that just makes you want to sit back and enjoy the evening. Our waitress was super sweet and incredibly patient with us Americans from the Deep South as we worked through the menu and tried not to butcher the Italian language too badly. Eventually we loaded up our order, but the only thing that really matters is this: I ordered the Filletto di Scottona alla Griglia cooked medium rare... although I'm convinced that's the only way they cook steaks in Italy. That plate hit the table with a small side salad, and after the first bite -- BAM -- this thing was excellent. The steak was fresh, tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I kept working through it bite by bite and loved every minute of it. Fantastic steak. Excellent atmosphere. Great service. The stars must have been aligned today because somehow I hit two 5-star meals in one day, and this one is definitely one of them. I'll absolutely be back eventually.

We found it on Yelp and it got 4 stars. We give it 5!! First of all the atmosphere is cozy and clean. The servers were EXCELLENT!! The menu was in Italian and we couldn't decide. Our server suggested a wild boar with tagliatelle and a white sauce bolognese with pasta. Both were PHENOMENAL with a delicious red wine!! Price was reasonable. We have been overwhelmed by the number of tourists, of which we are as well, but this place was calm with great food!!! Go here!!

That and the rubs are really really good. I like the fact that places like this are opening up in Florence, that offer a contemporary vibe but that serve really good, simple but beautifully presented food. I recommend heading to the back of the restaurant, which is nicely furnished with mismatched vintage wine glasses which add a nice touch. The service was really quite attentive, even though we were there for a late night meal and with my burger and glass of rose, I spent less than 20 euros, basically a win for a cool sit-down restaurant. They just opened which makes it even more impressive that the service is so good, I am very intrigued by their cocktail menu which also has a 'gecko mule' their take on the classic moscow mule that anyone who knows me knows that I love me some ginger beer! Perfect for lunch/dinner/ a drink or all three, I definitely approve!

We ordered gin and tonics which were exceptional and then the bartender made us the specialty of the house, a concoction of several fruits and alcohols (that I can't remember) which were absolutely delicious. Let me start off by saying WOW one of the best steaks I've ever had and that's say a whole lot…read more Very small yet open and inviting restaurant. We were browsing the menu outside when the owner was nice enough to invite us in. We ordered wine and got complementary appetizers which consisted of some meat and bread with olive oil and balsamic. We browsed the menu and couldn't decide on what to get because unlike other steak houses this one had many many other cuts to choose from but we settled on the infamous BISTECCA ALLA FIORENTINA. After we ordered it took about Roughly 15-20 minutes before our perfect piece of meat came out. The meat was tender and juicy and so perfectly seasoned. Every single piece of meat was meat in your mouth worthy. Even though the piece we got was huge it was sooo good my sister and I finished it no problem. We were even tempted to take the bone home and chew on it but that wouldn't be lady like... Service was good. Wasn't very many people dining when we were there but regardless they were very attentive and I would definitely be back.

We were let down by our first attempt in Florence when the meat was tough and mostly flavorless. After much research, he decided we were going to The Cut. We luckily scored reservations via thefork, one day in advance. We started off being served complimentary prosecco and a grilled mortadella amuse buche. We ordered the carpaccio chianina, grilled ember vegetables, and their daily special, an Argentinian beef (10 year old dairy cow that had been aged 60+ days). We asked if we should order any toppings or sauces, and the answer was no - neither was needed (as the flavor of the steak should stand out on its own). I appreciate that. Unfortunately, they ran out of the carpaccio chianina, so the owner comped us a chianina tartar so we could try the infamous chianina. Very tender yet robust flavor, especially with the salt. The steak (medium rare), cooked perfectly and very tender, but I can't say it was amaze-balls. Also, both this and the chianina only came in rib eye (not full T-bone), but that meant we could order 1 kg instead of the 1.2 kg minimum. That was good since between the two of us, we could not even polish off the 1 kg. The grilled ember vegetables were delicious! Too bad there just weren't that many of them. The owner apologized and told us they were on the house, since his shipment did not come in due to the holiday on Monday. We are from out of town, so honestly we wouldn't have know the difference if that was a normal or sparse portion. That was nice of him. Service was A+. Attentive, knowledgeable and so hospitable. Reservations are a must! This is a small restaurant and many parties were turned away during the duration of our meal there only.
