This might be one our favorite restaurant of our entire Italy trip. Trattoria da Tito was a 10/10 experience. The restaurant is very casual and laid back. The staff were very engaging and added to the overall atmosphere. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to squeeze us in during the dinner rush. We loved all the food except for the fried polenta. The wild boar pappardelle was phenomenal and the steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. We loved our first meal here. We ordered the ravioli pasta and lasagna, I was head over heels for my ravioli, it was great. So, we decided to come back the next night because we heard a customer said the steak was fantastic, and we didn't order steak the first time, so we came back for the classic florentine steak. The steak was really good, but really chewy on some parts. I was expecting that the steak would not be chewy at all, especially after the customers comment. Definitely one of the best and most authentic restaurants I've eaten at in Italy. Don't come expecting Italoamerican fare or food from outside of Tuscany, this place has been catering to locals long before it became a popular tourist location. We started off with an assortment of appetizers; mushroom souffle, which was like a savory/cheesy custard, classic bruchetta pomodoro, prosciutto and bruchetta tipica (liver pate). All were fantastic. For my secondi I had the classic parpardelle with wild boar ragu which was rich and flavorful. The pasta was a perfect al dente and the ragu was melt in your mouth. I also sampled the pici pasta (another classic Tuscan style of pasta, similar to think spaghetti) and the lasagna, which might have been the best one I've had anywhere. For dessert we had the chocolate souffle, which was not overly sweet and was super decadent, along with classic biscotto, which came with a carafe of vin Santo to dunk them in. The waiter also poured everyone a complimentary limoncello which was outstanding. The service was great and very engaging with everyone. For six people the total for our food and two bottles of wine was only 178 euro. Highly recommended. read more

Stopped by for lunch when it had just opened, and there was already a line outside and people seated inside! They were able to squeeze us in for an hour without a reservation. I was not expecting to need reservations for lunch, but grateful they fit us in. I was looking forward to trying some Florentine specialties here, especially the wild boar pappardelle, which was delicious and homey. We also got ribollita, bruschetta, and 2 desserts (berry panna cotta and a special cake). The ribollita was a huge portion and very filling - great flavor for such a simple vegetarian dish (we couldn't finish it even though we wanted to). I want to try to make it at home. Bruschetta was fresh and a big portion. Both desserts were perfection. There was also a basket of bread. Everyone in the restaurant was treated like family. Lots of writing/drawing all over the walls gives it a more relaxed vibe. It was quite a long walk from the busiest streets of Florence, but seemed to be the most bustling business in the surrounding area, which was very quiet. They did have English menus inside. After several days of disappointing meals in Florence (huge warning that most restaurants in the city now are largely tourist traps and unfortunately do not live up to expectations, as we found out after multiple underwhelming meals), Tito's was a GODSEND. We heard about it via Rick Steve's (I think it's one of his favorite restaurants in Florence) as we knew we needed to try a new strategy to find more authentic Italian food that lived up to our high expectations. Tito's delivered. We walked into the restaurant and found all of the servers taking shots to celebrate one of their birthdays. Immediately the vibe was warm, friendly, and so much more fun than any of the other places we had tried. The walls were lined with graffiti and we knew we found a special place. We were able to get a table immediately, and ordered a glass of house wine (delicious), and florentine steak (one of their staples) and the Mezzi Paccheri pasta that we saw the table next to us eating. Both dishes blew us away. To the point that, despite our fullness, we were so literally and figuratively hungry for good Italian food that we felt that we had been deprived of the prior days, we ordered a lasagna dish that also wowed us. Throughout our meal, the servers were attentive but not pushy, we're joking around with neighboring tables, and it was overall one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. At the end of the meal our server dropped off two bottles of liquor to wash down the food, and let us self serve, on the house. That's when we knew we discovered a gem. One of my favorite places we tried in Florence, and my first experience with the famous Florentine Steak! An absolute pleasure all around to dine here. Incredible vibes inside - the art on the walls gave a hip and vibrant atmosphere, yet customers were from all ages (families with children, elderly, young couples). My group of 5 walked in without a reservation, and the staff gave us 1.5 hours to eat. Plenty of time. Every single dish (pictured) that we ordered was so delicious. I have never been a fan of tripe cooked in the States, but the way that they cooked it here almost had the consistency and tenderness of shredded chicken. It was delicious and I had never had anything like it. I would also highly recommend the caprese salad with grilled eggplant and the meat lasagna. Both were flavorful and meant to be savored and eaten slowly. And finally the Florentine Steak - we didn't dare ask for it cooked more than us traditional, and the rawness of of the meat and juiciness was incredibly luxurious and tender. Absolutely some of the best energy you can get during a meal in Firenze! Fun, lively, loud, and full of energy. We came here with friends to celebrate and that we did. Wine overflowing, meat & cheese, crostini, bistecca Fiorentina, delicious sides, and a few desserts to share. Finished off with a cafe and limoncello. The walls and ceilings are covered in writing, definitely not your fancy dinner spot. If you are looking for a nice quiet dinner, go elsewhere, but you'll miss out. The service is fun, not stuffy. Antica Trattoria da Tito is a traditional Italian trattoria that opened in Florence, Italy in 1913. The establishment is currently owned by Chef Gianluca "Bobo" Giordano but it was founded by his great-great grandfather Tito. Chef Bobo still serves the same traditional Florentine cuisine that has been served for over 100 years. The eatery is a basic family trattoria where some of the popular plates include coal-cooked ham with smoked burrata, Florentine steak and rabbit stew. My wife and I visited Da Tito on our Italian honeymoon in July 2018. We had heard about it from the Rick Steves guidebook as well as his TV show. It's about a 10 minute walk from the busy tourist center of Florence. Here you will mostly find locals, not tourists. There was even a big sign at the door that said "No Ameritalian Food Here!" Chef Bobo seemed like a very jolly character from the TV footage we had seen of him, but unfortunately we did not see him during our visit. When we arrived the place was empty, but it was totally packed by the time we left. We decided to order a special dining experience that's not on the menu but is mentioned in the Rick Steves guidebook. It is called "Fermami" (literally "stop me") and if you order it then the staff will bring you endless plates of antipasti until you yell "Fermami!" We also ordered a local bottle of Rosé to accompany our food. Some of the delicious plates brought to us included fresh Bruschetta, Prosciutto with Cantaloupe, various types of Crostini, Eggplant Caprese Salad with Buffalo Mozzarella, a Charcuterie plate, and Octopus and Potato Salad. When our server delivered the last plate I yelled out "Fermami!" We were so stuffed! My wife won't touch octopus but I loved it; I have since learned how to recreate the salad at home. We ended our meal with two glasses of complimentary limoncello. The whole experience only cost us about €60 and it was easily our favorite dining experience from our stay in Florence! read more

Seemed to only have 1 beer lol. Only seemed to have good wine by the bottle. They told told us they could fit us in in one hour. Waiter came over in about 2 mins and was surprised we were not ready to order and weren't willing to drink an entire bottle of wine in one hour. Told us alcohol could not leave the table. I loved this restaurant and I have been there twice. Both times I had a reservation and this requirement is what appeared to upset many American diners. I Italy, especially at busy times, you are expected to make a reservation for a table. When you do, that table is yours for the evening, no rushing. I have beed turned away from an empty restaurant in Italy because the tables were all reserved for a bit later and they didn't want to hurry us out. At other restaurants, like Trattoria da Tito, if you are an early (American) arrival, they may seat you with the provision that the table is booked for another party for later, and they have priority. restaurants get into trouble everywhere with making reservations, when they put expectations on the time a patron can remain to enjoy their evening. They try to avoid this at the better/busier places in Italy. I took a group of 7 students to eat at daTito and we were surrounded by happy people speaking Italian and enjoying themselves. This restaurant was absolutely AMAZING! We arrived here for dinner after hearing a recommendation from our tour group. We decided to dine here on Valentine's Day, without a reservation. Yes, we were daring. We actually tried to make a reservation via email for 8pm, since our tour ends around 7pm. But they were all booked! Of course, it's VDay! We decided to do a walk-in instead, they sat us right away but mentioned that they might need the table back by 9:30pm, because they had a big party coming in. I told them, just let us know and we will definitely have the table back to accommodate the party. We decided to order the Florentine steak to share and my boyfriend decided to order a large bottle of house wine. Our waitress consulted with him whether he was sure. He said he was sure, so she removed the small bottle of wine that are set on each table and replaced it with a BIGGER bottle.. This is when my boyfriend realized why the waitress shockingly asked him if he was sure. Haha, no worries though because they allow you to take it home with you if you do not finish. Now, the Florentine steak is only cooked one way, RARE. It says specifically on the menu that they only cook it one way, do not ask because they will not do it. This was fine for us, because we do not like our steak if it was more than medium rare. The steak did not need any sauce but its own juices. The temperature was warm in the middle, lightly charred on the outside, browned around the sides and bright red in the center. It was love at first bite, it was AMAZINGGGG! We had a great dining experience here and of course, they will not let you leave without taking a shot of the delicious dessert liquor Limoncello. They have a few other flavors for you to try as well, orange, a green earthy one, and a herbally one. I definitely recommend this place, however, please do try to make reservations because when we first arrived, we heard people calling in to make reservations one month in advance and YES, IT IS WORTH IT! read more

I was seated handed a menu and then the waiter stood next to me looking at me. Within 30 seconds he asked if I was ready to order, um no. Irritated he tells me I only have the table for an hour and walks away, really?!?! The staff that brought me my food and drink were very kind. I often saw the main waiter standing staring at me, very awkward. Also the restaurant was about 1/3 full. As I am taking my last bite the waiter swoops in takes my plate and places the bill on the table! Unbelievable, and to add insult the bill has items I did not order. The food was fine nothing amazing that would make it worth putting up with their bad behavior. You ever heard of Dick's last resort? If not, it is the restaurant that writes the ridiculous phrases on white paper hats for their patrons to wear. The name (Dick's) is quite fitting as their servers are almost actors, in that they act intentionally rude but funny to their patrons. Definitely a different dining experience, but not one that screams class. Here, the waitress was jokingly rude, servers laughed and left a broken wine glass on the ground, and they willingly flinged wine corks around the room. I get that it is part of the act and not designed to be a classic dining experience, but it is distracting First course, we ordered the wild boar ragu with fresh tagliatelle pasta. It was satisfactory, not the best, not the worst. Okay okay, here is the part that got to me. We all ordered filet mignons, but the catch here is that steak here can only be ordered rare, no exceptions. I know that steaks are ideally supposed to be ordered med-rare, but even this steak was more on the rare side of rare, not on the med-rare side of rare. No question the steak was tender and tasty, but for a medium sized steak with no sides at 20 Euro, I would like to choose the cook on my meat. We ordered sides of veggies and potatoes, and the roast potatoes were some of the best I have had. To top off the wild dining experience, owner brought over a bottle of lemenchello and said that we could not pay and leave until we finished it. Taken aback since we were already pretty drunk, the owner and waitress each took a shot with us, as we slowly sipped to finish the bottle. Once we finished it, we tried to pay, but the owner put down another bottle on the table. We begrudgingly watched other patrons leave, and begged for mercy as we asked to pay and leave. Bottom line: a good meal in a strange atmosphere. Food was good, but for the price, I want be able to choose how their steak is cooked. Maybe I am not being objective, and this is just how the restaurant finds a niche. But just know you are paying fancy restaurant prices for not fancy restaurant atmosphere. This place is awesome! We tried the T-Bone Florentine as recommended in other reviews and it was superb! We didn't have a reservation but were seated right away shortly after 7pm (opening time) on a Monday. The staff is very friendly and most of them speak Italian, English and Spanish. Service was quick and attentive, food was delicious! We ordered the fried polenta with meat sauce, the steak Florentine and a bottle of the house red, and a ricotta cheesecake for dessert. Basically seemed annoyed that we were there. The rest of the staff was nice. Head guy had fun conversations with everyone else as they paid their checks and offered them limoncello drinks. Not us.
