We made one of the earliest reservations of the night, 7pm, and were greeted promptly at the door. The friendly staff took our coats to hang and escorted us to our table. From beginning to end we were warmly embraced by the waitresses, waiters, and sommelier. They politely shared some information on each dish, glass of wine, and why they pair well together. This was the first time we had experienced such attention to detail in service. We chose to try the traditional tasting menu for the evening and explore new flavor combinations. There were a number of dishes we enjoyed but a few that stood out that I remember today would be the egg dish served in a glass with a foam on top. It was warm, savory, and unexpected. We also enjoyed the salmon and risotto with squid ink. Il Desco was an experience we will always remember. It helped us to slow down and take in each bite, sip, and moment. The ambiance around us was classic elegance with a dose of casual comfort. We never felt out of place, especially being visitors and knowing little Italian, and only accepted. We got to see the chef greet some friends and more people getting seated as the night went on. As we left for the evening and thanked the wonderful staff for the amazing experience we could easily see why this restaurant is so well loved. I liked Il Desco overall for the food offered, but a few of the courses felt challenging to me…read more First things first, the ambiance is gorgeous -- there were many other tables dining during our seating, but you did not overhear their conversation. Well lit, but a warm light, and statement artwork line the room. Service is done impeccably. When I remember the tasting menu we had, we went for the full menu with wine pairings. They do offer smaller tasting menus, I think, of 3 or 5 courses, and portion sizes are adjusted accordingly. The full tasting menu is at least a 3-4 hour experience, so plan accordingly. In terms of challenging courses: possible the welcome offering from the chef, or one of the early first courses featured a savory panna cotta with lemon and tarragon. The texture of the pana cotta itself and the flavor was perfect. The addition of the chunks of lemon and tarragon sent the flavor profile into an almost astringent direction that simply did not work for me against a dairy background. I could see how lemon and tarragon together could work in a palate cleanser as a sorbet, but here, it was too strong. Lastly, the dessert was served with Macallan. While bold and adventurous to extend the earthy flavors of the dessert into a long finish, it felt heavy handed after a 8 glass wine pairing with each course. This didn't feel like a finessed finish to the dinner, or even going out with a spectacular bang, more like a hammer blow. At this point it was impossible to finish. More positively, I felt that the rest of the dishes and wine pairings were executed to very high standards. The beef cheek melted in your mouth tender, with the right aged red-wine pairing to cleanse the pállate. There was incredible treatment of monkfish in a few different ways where I could it regularly. If are interested in fine fining/ a Michelin experience while in Verona, I would recommend Il Desco. I personally would be curious to see how their menu evolves with seasonality.

After an afternoon of shopping and exploring Verona, we stopped at Le Cantine for dinner. Though they were pretty packed, the waiters seated us (a group of 6) immediately. Service was impeccable; everyone was extremely gregarious and friendly, even with the language barrier. LOL. Our waiter, Salvatore, was awesome and extremely helpful. For dinner, I had the special of the day: stuffed zucchini and pasta served with a special sauce. Though the portion was small, it was extremely filling. The light flavors of the sauce and pasta also made this dish easy to eat. The pizzas here also seemed extremely popular (with everyone ordering them), so we also ordered one. Though I don't remember what it was called (see photo), it was delicious. The crust was perfect and it was absolutely stuffed with toppings. Mmmm. My dad ordered Spaghetti alle Vongole (Spaghetti with Clams), an Italian specialty, and it tasted like seafood heaven. The flavors in that dish were extremely fresh and tasty. And who could go to Italy without having tiramisu for dessert? Le Cantine's tiramisu is beautiful and tasty -- I could have eaten a tub of that fluffy concoction. Overall, loved it!
