I brought my puppy here for a cut on her paw pad and the Vet was very gentle and caring. I didn't get her name but she is amazing!!

PLEASE READ AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF... We took our 9 month old cat in for an exam on 7/27/24 @ 4pm for discolored claws, decreased appetite, recent weight loss and anisocoria (one dilated pupil). The vet said that it was a neurological issue and a nail infection and that she must've "bumped her head". She gave us a Betadine solution to soak her paws in twice a day and that was it. The vet DID NOT weigh her, look in her eyes or ears with any instruments or perform any tests/diagnostics of any kind. She DID NOT even discuss any possible ones with us or refer us to a specialist. NO FLUIDS FOR DEHYDRATION GIVEN. At about 2:30 am the next morning  she began circling periodically. As the day went on it became more frequent and she became less stable. We ended up going to the U of I Small Animal Clinic ER in Urbana...THEY WEIGHED HER, DID BLOODWORK, ADMINISTERED AN IV FOR HYDRATION  ETC. AND DISCUSSED WHAT COULD BE DONE (or not done)......ONE OF THE POSSIBILITIES FOR THE CONDITION WAS THE POSSIBILITY OF A FUNGAL INFECTION IN THE NAIL(S) -which they said if bad enough could be causing the neurological symptoms and causing cerebellum brain inflammation/swelling which would explain the symptoms (not from a "bump on the head." They gave an internal antibiotic as well, but sadly given time factors for a positive prognosis by this time and given the state she was now in, we ultimately had to make the humane decision to euthanize and give her peace. We will never know if the Ottawa Veterinary Hospital vet, if she would have done her due diligence on Fri. if the outcome would've been different. She betrayed our trust and GRAVELY FAILED us as our vet and our pet paid the ultimate price.... as well as our family. We called her and discussed everything with the Ottawa vet on 7/29/24 (Mon). and she wouldn't own ANY OF IT!! It would've been one thing if she would've done everything she could've  and discussed treatments, tests and prognosis, but to do nothing after we detailed all our concerns to her is reprehensible and negligent and she shouldn't be in practice giving this type of "care" in our opinion. Decide for yourself if this level of care and expertise from the vet here is what you want for yourself, but more importantly your pet because ultimately your pet's life, may one day, be in HER hands... literally. read more

Been using this vet clinic for my cats and rabbits. Happened to be looking for a kitten so went there because they always have cats I. The waiting room. They informed me they had kittens coming any day. Filled out application and they were born on the day my sister died. So now I was excited so I went t there two days after they arrived. Picked out one with strips. Even talked to the lady about seeing the strips before she could see them. Anyway they are ready now they gave my kitten to someone else. Very hurtful.l!!! Waited this whole time to have this happen. Would never step foot in there again. Very poor cet service and rude front seat girls..... read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS CLINIC!!! After searching for quite a while for a specific cat (female orange tabby) I found two at this place. I drove two hours to get them. Was a little concerned with the lack of cleanliness and smell in the lobby area, but got my kittens and made arrangements to return in a couple months to have them spayed; there would be just a minimal cost if I brought them back. A couple months later, I returned to the clinic (which by the way smelled even worse than the first time I was there), and I was prepared to stay in town overnight since my kittens obviously were having major surgery. 6 hours later they called me and said the kittens did really well and I could take them home! I asked if there were any precautions I should take and the girl on the phone said to keep them in their carrier overnight but then the next day they could resume normal activity! I thought it was a little strange but figured they knew what they were talking about so I returned to the clinic to pick them up. They brought my kittens out in their carriers, and handed me two post-surgery cones and said, "they might need these." No other instructions, warnings, things to look for, etc. Two days later I was taking one of my kittens to an emergency vet near me because her belly had a golf ball size lump and she was bleeding. She ended up having a second surgery to correct the hernia and poor surgical closing done at the Ottawa clinic. When I picked her up the next day, I was given a full set of instructions on how to care for newly spayed kittens. And that emergency bill cost me over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. After a rough couple of weeks, thankfully both of my ginger kitties are doing very well. No thanks to that terrible Ottawa vet clinic! Honestly, even though it's how I got mine, after seeing the large number of kittens there both times I was at the clinic, I'm wondering if they are running some kind of kitten mill. I've never seen or heard of a vet clinic selling kittens, let alone upwards of 15 at a time. It's kind of suspicious when you really think about it. Hopefully there are other vet clinics in the Ottawa area that people can take their pets to. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Don't go to this place even if it's the only place open within 50 miles! ... Don't make the mistake I did! They botched my dogs leg really bad. The place was disgusting and unsanitary when I brought him in. It smelled horribly of cat urine, the floor was sticky with newspaper stuck everywhere to it, and the waiting area/reception area was destroyed by cats. I should've walked right out. But I was desperate. My dog had broken his leg on a Saturday afternoon, and I went there because they were the only place that said they were open online, and his normal vet was too booked. I was told that if I didn't leave him in their care then he could bleed out and die. With that threat, I left him on a Saturday afternoon and was promised that they would do surgery first thing Monday morning. Multiple calls on Monday and a trip out they had lied to me all day saying he was being "prepped for surgery", which hadn't been done by the time they closed. I went in the next morning right when they opened (Tuesday) to take him to a more reputable vet, and was told that I couldn't move him because he had open wounds because they had opened him up the night before! When I looked at him he was drugged up and had poop on his leg! When I notified them of it they told me it was "wet chow". Even if they did feed a dog before surgery, (which is usually against protocol) wouldn't it still be unsanitary to have food on open wounds? Once again I was forced to leave him there. They used too large of a pin in my dogs leg after reassuring me they knew what they were doing. When I went to my checkup appointment to have them look at my dogs leg, staples were taken out and no xrays were taken after a month to see how he had healed. When I asked why there was no X-ray, they said their business with me was done the second I walked out the door. A week later, his leg was bulging out so I decided to get a second opinion. After an X-ray, it was confirmed that the pin they put in was too big, and was pushing against his joints. The fracture was even worse. I had to have a second surgery done and the pin had to be removed. It was so big he couldn't extend his leg. When I contacted Ottawa Veterinary Clinic I was called stupid and told everything was my opinion. This place is dishonest, unprofessional, and incompetent. They also don't guarantee their work once you pay them. read more

Will not ever bring my cat to this vet ever again. Or any of my animals.I called in asking for an appt to have my 2 year old cat examined because she had been having bright red blood coming out when she used the litter box. They said bring her in it was an emergency so I did 15 minutes later, they told me they needed to hospitalize her so they did, the vet was supposed to call me the next day she didn't so I called before they closed never got to speak to her. Receptionist said they had given her basically like a laxative the day before and we're just waiting for her to give a stool sample. They needed to keep her til she gave one to test. Meanwhile they said on Thursday the vet would call me to let me know what's going on Friday, never called I called before they closed. Still nothing done to her but they needed her to stay another night to try to get stool. On Saturday morning I called they said the vet would be there in 10-15 minutes they would have her call me soon. I waited yet again. After two hours I just went in to ask what's going on with my cat, still never got to see or speak with the vet. The receptionist let me know they were still waiting for stool. So meanwhile my cat had went three days without one, I asked why no other tests like bloodwork or X-rays to find out if there's any thing going on I mean after all they were the ones who said it was an emergency to bring her in few days back. Nope no tests at all done. So I took her away from that place and to a real vet who got her in right away at Fox Valley. They gave her X-rays, fluids because she was dehydrated and running a pretty high temperature. They took her blood work. The X-ray showed she was so very impacted on the inside so they gave her an enema to thankfully relieve most of that problem. They found a weird mucus plug, they are testing that as well. The bloodwork came back today she has an infection and her white blood cell count is off which is why they know this. She will have to be given more antibiotics and fluids on Thursday and to check to make sure she's not compacted anymore. But she's not stuck in a kennel at the vet anymore especially when this vet did nothing but charge me more than they should of considering they done nothing at all. If you care about your animals health be aware cause they don't and the vet wouldn't even speak to me like a professional should. read more

I would give 0. After saying they can perform a neutering service on my Bernese mtn dog they butchered him sending him home bleeding. We brought him back there again to "correct the issue" after having him there all night to "monitor" him. The next night we ended up having to bring him to the animal hospital in Aurora after hours almost midnight costing us almost 10 grand for a couple hundred dollar standard straight forward surgery. I would say standard services possibly but I will never be back here again. Beware. read more

The lady working at the front desk was super nice but the vet had come out of the back room grabbed up a very pregnant black cat named Delilah took her and threw her in a room in the back. I heard the cat hit the wall. I will never forget the sound that poor cat made when she hit the wall. Then she came to the front desk where there was about 6 people in the lobby and yelled at the front desk lady "do not to let her out of that f***ing room". After this all happened I decided to leave and I will take my cats else where as I am new to area and had only been here one other time. The way the vet acted was so appalling I hope she realizes it might be time to retire if she is treating her animals she's trying to adopt that way. read more

this vet is bogus all the way around i just adopted one of these so called kittens they had there i asked specifically for a girl kitten they brought out the girl and tagged her with my name and said i could pick her up to take her home the following week the following week came they charged twice as much as the original price they gave for adoption none of the kittens were tagged with names when i went back i was the first to take my kitten home the vet came out picked up one and told me i had the girl they were calling vanilla bean and put her in the carrier charged twice as much said the cat had ear mites and may need treatment sent me on my way well turns out my girl is a boy with balls i didnt notice at first as i wasnt looking at its privates i called the vet and they dont care at all are very rude and unapologetic said it shouldn't matter if the cats a boy or a girl i tried explaining i wanted a girl because of temperament and its ability to make kittens again i was met with that they didnt care i was then hung up on they never have the same staff it seems and the office smells of cat piss and poop its absolutely disgusting oh and my cat has a deformed tip on its tail probably a kitten mill is going on there as the vet brings kittens in all the time from her home its quite disturbing please read the other reviews about this vet i wish i had read more

My female feline needed a spayed and they treated her so well. They kept her over night and she's doing great

PLEASE BEWARE. I just took my dog here for a few vaccinations, heart worm test and fecal test and I will never go back. The lobby area is poorly kept. It smelled awful and was dirty and there were cats wandering around freely which made it challenging to bring my dog inside to begin with. Then when they took my dog to get weighed, the scale was about an inch away from a cat bed which had a cat laying in it that hissed at my dog the entire time. My dog was so anxious as I tried to hold her still on the scale with the cat hissing at her. Then while waiting in the exam room with my dog I found a leftover sharps on the floor. Thank goodness I found it before my dog did. Would have been awful if she had ingested something like that. Then the veterinarian came in and was super cold toward me and my dog. She insisted she be lifted on the table where she could reach her and the assistant had to hold her for the shots. He held her soooo tightly she was crying and her eyes became bloodshot. I felt so bad for my girl. Then the veterinarian said she saw a flea on the table. I know it wasn't from my dog since she has been on flea prevention since the day I got her. I was so unhappy with the lack of cleanliness in the exam room. Then they proceeded to do the blood draw for her heart worm test and afterwards the assistant wiped her leg clean of blood with his bare hand. I felt this was unsanitary and it made me uncomfortable because I don't know how clean his hands are or what else he has been handling before touching an open wound on her leg from the blood test. Then I had to call twice to try to get the fecal test results back and it took a full week. In my opinion this place is an unsanitary and potentially hazardous veterinary hospital where the staff don't even seem to like animals. I would much rather drive two hours round trip to my usual veterinary hospital than ever take my girls back here. My girls deserve a much better environment.. one that is clean and where staff welcome pets with kindness and care and try to make them comfortable during their experience. read more

I never ever post to these review sites, but the service and compassion I receive, and of course my fur-babies, from Dr Hoagland and her staff over the past five years is unmatched in my book! I have been a veterinarian client for more than 40 years and this clinic and the staff are amazing!! I am always given tremendous service and the utmost care for my pets, always. They never seem to have a bad day and that is impressive. I met Dr Hoagland when my dog had a late evening emergency. She was the only vet who would help my dog at that late hour. She even gave me her cell phone number! I recently had to put my elderly pup down. Dr Hoagland and Keith were so kind afterwards. They spent more than 30 minutes with me sharing silly pet stories! Dr Hoagland spends considerable time and money helping the homeless pets in town and she is to be commended for her kindness to them always! I also love to rescue as well and presently own six dogs, 15 cats (outdoor), and seven rescue horses. Dr Hoagland cares for my dogs and cats and is the best in my book! Thank you Dr Hoagland for your dedication to the health of our pets and your kindness to us as their owners. read more

I would recommend anyone to come here, the people who work there really care about animals and have such passion for them. I recently adopted Hannah a female cat 12/31/2016 she is adjusting well and in good health. We love her so much she is a little shy but already coming around quickly, playing and jumping and sleeping on our bed. I am so happy and know she was well loved and taken care of until she found us to make a forever home! Please if looking to adopt take the time to look at the animals here they may need little extra love and patience at the beginning however, it will be well worth it. read more
