Our daughter has been here through the ownership transition, and the new administration has brought nothing but massive, positive growth to this school. First, the leadership team is incredible. Ms. Nithya, the new director, was personally selected as a trusted replacement by Ms. Brooke, and she is exceptionally warm, welcoming, and attentive. Our new assistant director, Ms. Aanchal, is equally amazing and highly organized. The entire staff is kind, and the energy at pickup and drop-off is wonderful. The teachers always greet us with a smile, and our daughter leaves giving hugs and talking so positively about everyone. Since the new school year started under this team, we have noticed tremendous improvements in our daughter's fine motor and communication skills. She is now coloring within the lines, writing her name, and communicating much more deeply. The claims about poor communication couldn't be further from the truth. Communication has actually significantly improved. We receive constant, thoughtful, and genuine updates through the Procare app. For example, last week we got an alert that our child was caught wasting food. Her teacher had a constructive talk with her and asked us to reinforce it at home. We never received this level of proactive, mindful feedback under the past administration. When it comes to safety, the teachers are observant, protective, and adhere strictly to all licensing guidelines. They over-communicate with true integrity. When our daughter got a tiny, completely minor boo-boo on the play structure, they immediately logged it in Procare. It shows how deeply they care about transparency and monitoring the kids to ensure they are safe, healthy, and playing nicely. Finally, the new management has been incredibly proactive. Right when the transition happened, we were promptly notified via email about all administrative, classroom, and teacher updates. Even better, they have actively improved the community by opening a brand-new infant care program and an after-school pickup shuttle service for public TK students! Change can be hard for some, but the new management has handled it beautifully. Storyland is thriving, safe, and an absolute blessing for our family. On his first Discovery Day, my son cried almost the entire time because it was his first real separation from mom. But the teachers were incredibly patient, gentle, and loving. What meant the most to me was how often they updated me--sending pictures and notes through the ProCare app so I knew exactly how he was doing. Being able to see that he was safe and in caring hands helped ease my anxiety tremendously. Since he had such a tough first day, we decided to bring him back for a second Discovery Day to see if he was more ready. This time, everything changed. When my son saw Miss Anna and Miss Sandra, he recognized them and calmed down after few minutes and enjoyed his lunch and snacks. He looked so much more comfortable and ended up having an amazing time! I received tons of photos again, and I could tell from the updates that he was playing, smiling, and really enjoying himself. When I picked him up, he seemed genuinely happy--loving his teachers and even interacting with friends. I left feeling so relieved and confident that he might actually be ready for daycare. Before all this, I had spoken with Adrian, the Director, because I had a lot of questions and concerns as a new mom. If you have an infant, steer clear from this facility. My husband and I put our (at the time 5…read moremonth old) son into their infant program and after 3.5 days we removed him due to safety concerns that I personally viewed through the camera system they have there. On day 2, I witnessed my son being placed faced down in a crib for naptime. While he was distraught and not wanting to go to sleep a woman (who to my knowledge) is not an infant teacher continued to put his arms to his side while he laid face down crying. If you know anything about infant care, then you know that is dangerous and an infant can suffocate. He was removed from the crib after a few minutes. Later that day I again witnessed him being placed face down in a crib for nap. When I picked him up that day, I brought up the issue to the infant teacher that was not in the classroom most of the day and asked that they do not continue to do that. The next morning at drop off they discussed the matter with my husband and proceeded to lie and said he rolled over on his own while sleeping. At this time my son could roll over onto his stomach, but not back over to his back. He has NEVER, even as I write this review, attempted to roll over onto his stomach in his sleep. He sleeps on his side or his back only. On Day 3, I witnessed the infant teacher that takes care of the babies during the lunch hour completely neglect my son, leaving him a floor mat screaming his head off. His face was red, his little limbs were flailing, and I know from experience that he was screaming bloody murder. He was left there for at least 10 minutes, unattended. At this time there was one other baby in the room crawling and playing independently. After some time, the teacher took a bottle over to my son to get him to eat, however he was so distraught that he didn't take the bottle. She then appeared to give up and got up and left him there to continue crying, while then deciding to attend to the other infant that was playing independently. He came home that day with damaged vocal cords, which I can assume was from being left unattended for 20 minutes. On day 4, I witnessed the lunch hour infant teacher once again neglecting my son. While my son screamed bloody murder for 20 minutes, the infant teacher prioritized cleaning up the room/ kitchen. She never once looked his way, never attempted to go over and sooth him. But she did once again attend to a happily independent infant. My husband picked him up early and he will never go back. Speaking with the Director of the facility, Sarah DeSousa, about these incidents was a complete waste of time aside from the fact that the Assistant Director, Nikki admitted to placing my son face down in the crib because "in her experience babies like to sleep on their stomachs anyway". Sarah, who was on vacation while my son attended the program for 3.5 days took absolutely zero responsibility for her staff, herself and the facility. Not only did she continue to give herself an "out" during our conversation because she was on vacation, but she stated that these incidents that we experienced never happen and will be a good teaching opportunity for her staff. I am very happy that my son's safety can provide a good teaching lesson to staff that, in my opinion, have no idea what they are doing and are actively choosing to not follow their own safe sleeping policies. Bottom line, sending your infant there (or maybe even toddler, look up their recent citations) is not safe. I unfortunately, should have not ignored the red flags prior to my son starting there. They were disorganized, lost paperwork that I spent time filling out, and did absolutely nothing in terms of helping a baby transition before their first day. Don't ignore this review, stay away from Kiddie Academy.

Their handbook clearly states that dismissal is "never our goal," yet we were given no opportunity for partnership or intervention before termination. It became clear to us that while this school may be a good fit for children who are already naturally easygoing, they do not have the skill set, training, or willingness to effectively support children with more challenging behaviors. Every child deserves support when they struggle, especially in early childhood when emotional regulation is still developing. While we do not excuse our child's behavior, we were deeply disappointed to see the school abandon the values it advertises instead of working with us. If you are considering this school, I strongly encourage you to ask very specific questions about how they handle challenging behavior in practice, not just on paper.

There were good things about this school but over the last several months, something at the school has changed. These are my views and based on knowledgeable firsthand facts. Lack of Proper Oversight - The school has been hit by licensing several times over the last 6 months (details and sign up of alerts can be found here https://www.ccld.dss.ca.gov/carefacilitysearch/FacDetail/013421352). The staff will constantly turn their backs, be on their phone, stand in areas that block views, and leave children unattended constantly. For example, I picked up my son in late March (5ish) and the number of kids was 18 for one teacher, all different ages playing outside on the playground. Also, I dropped off my son last week (8:20 am), and noticed the number of kids was 30+ but only two teachers were outside (Ratio is supposed to be 12-1). I have noticed a constant repetitive pattern, and it looks like other parents have communicated these same issues to licensing. Lack of Proper Teaching - During afternoon nap time, I signed my son up for additional academic learning programs that were offered. This program, Early Explorers, was designed to provide additional education to kids that were dropping their naps. It wasn't a free choice and required parents to pay extra. Over the last six months, the program went from fun academic learning to additional free play outside. During their free play outside, nothing academic or educational was provided, it was only more play outside on the playground. When questioned about why I was paying for a program that was advertised as additional learning opportunities, an excuse about lunch breaks was communicated to me. Lack of Proper Intervention / Regulation - During my time there, multiple reports were communicated to me about my son's incidents. During these incidents it was made clear that teachers were not properly trained in the right child development techniques and were constantly intervening when situations escalated to the highest levels. For example, my son had several incident reports for physical violence, when questioned about the lead up to the situation, it was clear that my son communicated he needed another child to respect his space. The teacher watched my son communicate multiple times that my son needed space, intervening after things escalated physically between the two children. During another incident, I questioned the teacher asking things like "can you tell me more about when and how you stepped in?" or "Can you provide me with facts leading up to the situation?", which caused teachers to not provide adequate details about the situation. Lack of Communication to parents by the Owner and Leadership - A situation came up last year where parents were passing around a picture of my son being restrained by a teacher. That picture was provided to me six months later when another parent asked about the situation, thinking I knew about it. Nothing was communicated to me by leadership or the owner until I comforted them about it. When asked why this wasn't brought to my attention, the excuse "an internal investigation happened" was used. Then questioned again on why I wasn't made aware of this, the comments "well the child's parents were notified", I was the parent of the child, and it was clear Leadership was trying to keep it from us.

The infant room was good, mostly because our baby had an excellent primary caregiver who communicated with us regularly and knew what she was doing (that teacher has since left). However, once we transitioned into the toddler room things really seemed to go downhill. Communication was poor, and we found out by accident that our daughter was being moved into different classrooms throughout the day before her transition date (not ok!). Staff turnover was crazy high, both with teachers and administrators (3 directors in less than two years!). Many of the teachers we liked and who seemed to genuinely care for our child left after only a brief time working there. There doesn't seem to be a lot of investment in hiring, training, and keeping capable staff. I was also alarmed to see that Lily of the Valley has been reported several times to the state or they have failed inspections for being out of ratio. For not having been open that long they've been in trouble a lot. One more thing of note was this center's reliance on tablets and screens in the classroom. I was upset to learn that every single day the toddlers were watching screens and the adults in the room weren't reading books out loud, just using an iPad and a Bluetooth speaker with a video playing. I complained and was told that they changed this practice, but when we were given paperwork for renewing enrollment, there was a consent form for my TWO YEAR OLD to use the internet and tablet unsupervised. So I think that's just the way they do things. I had really high hopes for Lily of the Valley. We've moved on to another preschool, but I hope they can turn things around so people don't keep leaving. The infant care was good though.

I wanted to say that I attribute much of my present success to the advanced education I received at this school. They really encourage children to learn at their own rate, accommodating those who learn faster and those who need extra help. Beth Marshall was my teacher for most of my years here, and I know she no longer works there, but I hope they still teach in that style. The way they let the parents and children set the child's own standards for grading, and have the child assemble their own portfolio and present is unique (as far as I know). We kids felt like we had some say in how we were being taught and had more interest in school than I think any kids in public school had. By the time I entered high school at Amador, the only classes that compared at all in quality were the honors and AP classes. Besides the outstanding education I received, I fondly remember the field trips, holidays, PE classes, electives (enrichment), meditation, etc. It was a very stimulating environment and I'm glad I got to experience it. I am giving 4 stars because I don't know if what I experienced as a child is still the norm for VMS now. For any who care to know, I am now pursuing my PhD in Molecular Bio at UCSD. How much is nature vs. nurture, and how much VMS contributed to the "nurture" aspect, I don't...but looking on Facebook at my VMS classmates, I can say that all of them seem to be thriving as well. It was an immediate yes for us and now that we've been here since May, we are so happy that our girls come here & are so loved by their teachers. Robyn helped us potty train her easily and it's been such a loving nurturing environment. LPS staff has been our second family. The teachers are the reason why we chose to bring her here. Teacher Serena deserves a special acknowledgement as she navigated online distance learning in 2020. It was a tough year when she started kindergarten but LPS did an amazing job providing a nurturing and navigating through all the complexities due to COVID. I can't thank them all enough for everything they've done. We also have two little girls both in LPS in teach Sara's class and with Teacher Kathy and Becky! Our girls LOVE LPS. The staff has been there for 20+ years and even teacher Evelyn who retired comes back every now and then to help out when needed. She does this because she loves the kiddos. Robyn is now the Director which is fantastic she's been a teacher for many years and has always communicated effortlessly. Our kids love all the teachers but they absolutely adore teacher Stacey. They talk about her all the time and even ask for play dates and sleepovers with her, that's awesome!!! We are so happy with this preschool and blessed to call it our kiddos second home/family
