Plus sweatshirts, t-shirts, jackets, hats, fashion jewelry, stunning colorful glass ornaments and some really pretty textured throw blankets. Also a few blankets in PNW patterns. In the back corner there is an area dedicated to food and pantry items from Oregon called the Farmers Market. Jams, chocolate, hazelnuts, honey and other items stock the shelves. Soon they will be selling local beer, wine and cider. The store is laid out nicely with lots of room to browse. Customer service was great! The woman working there was very enthusiastic about their products telling me about the history, the foundation and future plans. No surprise, I ended up buying a pair of earrings! I swear I could open my own jewelry store! Will definitely visit again while making my rounds in Oak Street.

Succulents have been all the rage the last few years and they have a bakers rack filled with them in small pots of different shapes and colors. A gift that anyone would enjoy receiving or to decorate your own home. They were a bit on the expensive side but at the same time, the pots were cute. My Christmas colors are silver and white and I have many silver reindeer on display. Amongst the stickers, I found a pack of glittery reindeer stickers for $10 that I just had to have! So bummed they didn't have my size! Instead I opted for a black crochet sweater made in Italy. The style was unique; oversized with fitted half sleeves, tunic length, boxy yet somehow managed not to look like a big sack! It actually flattered a women's curvy shape. The day I visited was the annual tree lighting known as Imd Dreaming if a White Salmon Christmas - don't you just love that! The shops were open and offering lots of sales. This gorgeous sweater was 50% off plus another 10% off for the sale so for just $45 I have a gorgeous and functional addition to my wardrobe. Christine was working that night and she was super friendly, welcoming and helpful offering objective opinions as I was trying on various items. Christine made all of the beautiful macrame pieces hanging in the shop, some 10 feet long. They add a texture to a space without competing with anything in a room. I'm now dreaming of a white macrame wall hanging for Christmas! Definitely visit this shop right in the heart of White Salmon nestled between restaurants and other boutiques. The plants are healthy and thriving. I wanted everything! Gerbera daisies are one of my favorite flowers. With their bright colors of yellow, orange, red and pink, they remind me of happy faces and I always plant them in my containers. In winter months, I buy bouquets to brighten up my space. Typically I buy the yellows and oranges, which I call sunshine colors. At Good News Gardening, they had a variety that I had never seen; the petals were much thinner and in abundance, adding so much texture and whimsy. Even though the tag said Gerbera, I had to ask one of the ladies working there if it was, indeed, a Gerbera Daisy! Next year, this is where I will buy them, no question. As I wandered around, I noticed every section had unique varietals. The dahlias were the size of a dinner plate and the colors of peach, yellow, white and pink in one flower stopped me in my tracks. Only to be outdone by the vibrant orange and white striped variety. In the herb section, options are boundless. At least a dozen types of oregano. Spicy Italian oregano? Yes, please! Dozens of types of mint (plant only in a contained area) and so many varieties of basil. More types of lettuce and tomatoes than I had ever heard of or eaten. This incredulous reaction occurred in every area that I visited. I have been gardening for 40 years and today I learned so much! Wow. Inside they have houseplants and a huge section of seeds. I'm totally into Oregon wildflowers like the delicate blue cornflower, bright orange California poppy, yellow & orange milkweed and yarrow to name a few. They had seed packets of each or mixed. Lots of seeds for veggies, too. The section was extensive! When you are inside you will be serenaded by the dozens of little birds that found their way in and are sitting on the poles or in the rafters singing their songs! Everyone here is happy, and who wouldn't be?! Everyone working there was super friendly and helpful. They genuinely love what they do and are so knowledgeable. They don't just want to sell you something, they want what you purchase to grow and thrive. Shout out to Maria who shared my love for that incredible Gerbera Daisy and showed me all the different colors it came in. Prices are a bit higher but the quality and uniqueness makes it totally worth it. Next year, I will head directly here without even stopping anywhere else. With my limited amount of space for flowers, I only want the best and unique!

Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business.

They don't just recommend shoes, they fit you for the pair that best meets your specific needs and fits you properly. For anyone who has suffers from foot or knee pain, you know how life changing a properly fitted pair of shoes can be! In addition to a robust shoe, sneaker, running shoe, hiking boot area, Shortt's has all of your camping needs covered. Tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking equipment, dehydrated food, small cook stoves and more. They carry every color and size Hydro Flask and totes and coolers, too. Jackets, rain gear, hats, caps, swimsuits, sunglasses, clothing, waterproof pants and tops, maps, books - they have it all. The only section that I wish was more robust is the swim section. I swim an hour a day and while they had a few swimsuits, goggles and swim caps, I was looking for a mesh bag to carry my swim fins, gloves and goggles. They had three TYR bags but they were super bright neon colors and I want something more subtle. This is a family run business and they are all about personal service and as a result, when the store is crowded it can be challenging to get assistance because those working there definitely give full attention to the person they are widening with. It's worth the trade off. Definitely recommend.
