Windance is fantastic. Great selection of gear, great vibes, the staff is always high-stoke and helpful. Definitely feels like a pillar of the windsport community, and not just in the gorge. The consignment area of the shop is a great amenity, and theyve got a pretty good demo fleet of boards, foils, etc if you want to try something out. Theyve also got the best windsport hardware section with all the different bolts, nuts, doodads etc that i seem to misplace at an alarming cadence. Walked in planning on spending $300-$400 on basic safety gear for a new sport and fully prepared/borderline keen to get upsold up to a full kit --so, literally thousands of dollars more than that. Walked out irritated enough to bother writing this review, having spent exactly $0. From the jump, front desk staff radiated general annoyance that I'd even walked into the place. A few basic questions about gear got me a series of one-or-two word answers and vague pointing. I get that we'd all rather be outside playing than working, but (1) basic civility is not difficult, and (2) the wind wasn't even that good that day?? Reading recent positive reviews, I have to assume this is just the kind of place that may have one approach to customer service for sporty-looking white guys and another approach for everybody else. I'm sure this doesn't apply to everyone who works here, but it's been a long time since I've had an experience this bad in a gear shop, and the owner might consider some level-setting with staff. read more

Can not give enough stars. My local So Cal windsurfing store bummed me out for the last time. I needed a Chinook colar snap for standard size. Local stated that my rig was old, this old, that old, buy new bla bla bla I need a tendon as well. Oh we might have it. Done. three strikes. Windance answers the phone. Super cool and I get the parts within two days in Palos Verdes Ca. The local shop..uh. maybe we can get it on a truck in a couple weeks.... Whatever. We know here my new stuff and parts come from here on out... I am getting into windsurfing in my '60's from surfing and sailing my whole life. I don't need bs, smoke and mirrors or anything else. This guy is amazing. The first time up on the mountain after getting my brand new board and I pull a rookie move and go over some rocks that rip my board up. After calling around in Hood River this place was able to do same day, repair and wax in a few hours. read more

This place was great! Very helpful, huge shop and lots of demo boards. Plus a ton of accessories. I came in for a new kiteboard and left with a whole lot more including a pair of bindings I've never even heard of but were the most comfortable bindings I've ever tried! I purchased a used sail from Windance online. They use a rating system which is defined on their website. This sail was rated B condition. When I received it, it had tears in the batten sleeves and the top strap was badly worn. It needed repair. I returned this sail and was shipped a 2nd one. The owner of the shop said this time he would ship me the best on he had. When I got the 2nd one, the main panel had at least 7 tears. It was completely unusable without repair. This shop is a gem. Dave the owner is super helpful and easy going. Great selection of new and used equipment at very good prices. Dave spent a long time with me going over sail dynamics and helping me with my purchase in a very open, non-pushy and relaxed manner. I would/will go to Windance for future windsurf gear needs and spread the word! The shop is split in two. Windsurf gear on one side, kiting on the other. Personally I like this seperation of gear, makes it easier since I don't kite and don't want to look at kiting harnesses etc since irrelevent for me. Location wise it's a little off the beaten path- just around the bend / over a small bridge from the heart of hood river shops, and I found it to be a breath of fresh air because of its seperation. Feels like how maybe Hood River was in earlier years- just a guess as I've only recently been coming. As a bonus, there is a nice coffee shop and organic market and small thai trailer/outdoor patio restaurant in the same little pocket. Glad I found this place and I would highly recommend this shop and dave in particular for new or used windsurf gear and/or rentals equipment. read more

They're now called Windance Boardshop, as they deal in all kinds of boards. Having never been there, I stopped in today to see if they had an obscure part for an old pair of Flow bindings that I had as backups. John was awesome. He found the part I needed and then charged my a whopping $1.80! These guys are straight shooters and passionate about helping the community enjoy their board sport of choice. They also had great pricing on the gear I checked out. I'll be back to buy a NEW pair of bindings very soon. read more

Poor customer service. Older grey haired guy was very, very unhelpful when asking about a board I was planning to buy from them - So, I just figured they were too busy and I would buy online anyway and have it shipped. Ordered board online, payed with card, then got an email the following day saying the board was out of stock, but I could buy a different board for 400$ more While waiting, I overheard a conversation w/ another customer. The customer asked if they stocked heal straps for kite boards. The salesperson responded by saying ' those are for kooks', and not much else. The customer blew it off and said "well I guess I'm a kook ' - The salesperson just looked at him and acted like he was too cool for school. I wanted to support a local shop - It just isn't worth it with these guys. Ordered the board from some very cool guys up in the Seattle area without any of the issues or attitude. read more

Got a week-long gear rental and bought a helmet. The gear was top-notch: new sails (one straight from the factory), skinny masts, etc. Reasonable prices. Just a few service-related glitches short of a 5-star place. Would be back happily. read more
