Dare County Regional Airport is a small airport that serves small aircraft. The widely advertised OBX air tours leave from this airport as well as biplane rides and helicopter rides. In addition to sightseeing tours the airport also serves a charter service that flys to and from places like Raleigh, Dulles, College Park and Norfolk. Many of the take offs and landings are from the banner planes. Private plane rentals are available too so bring your log books and prepare to get checked out by a local pilot if renting a plane is in your plans. In the summer this is a busy airport! The airport is a cute building built in beach fashion. The waiting area consists of large, comfy leather sofas inside and a small deck outside. Beverages and snacks are limited to a few vending machines. Many of the passengers traveling through here seem to be getting on air tours so while there are often people waiting around, no one seems to be waiting around long. Overall, it's a clean and comfortable waiting area with lots of windows for viewing aircraft. I loved watching all of the planes coming and going from this busy airport and I thoroughly enjoyed a scenic tour of the Outer Banks. With so much traffic I was surprised to learn there is no ground control or air traffic control - just a group effort via UNICOM 122.80.

Norfolk International Airport was a really pleasant airport to travel through. It's relatively…read moresmall compared with a lot of major airports, but I actually liked that because everything was easy to find and getting around was simple. The layout makes sense, signage is clear, and I never felt like I was walking forever just to find my gate or get where I needed to go. The airport was also very clean, organized, and surprisingly quiet. It didn't have the hectic or chaotic feeling you get at some larger airports. Everyone I interacted with was polite and friendly, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed. It may not be a huge airport with endless terminals and amenities, but for actually getting in, getting through security, and getting to your flight without a hassle, it does a very good job. Overall, a clean, comfortable, and well-run airport.

It is the primary airport serving coastal Virginia and northeast North Carolina with scheduled air service provided by American, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United. When I lived in Virginia Beach, friends and loved ones would fly in/our of Norfolk International. Picking them up and dropping them off was always easy peasy! The airport was always clean, inviting, and had friendly staff top to bottom! My best friend visited from Birmingham and arrived on a Delta flight and we spent probably an hour or more posing in the airport taking photos! Same with my sweet Momma when she visited me for a week! We relaxed, I brought her flowers to meet her at the gate and it was painless to pick her up and to drop her back off, sadly, to say goodbye for her return flight to Huntsville, Alabama. There are two concourses, Concourse A and Concourse B. Concourse B was the concourse my sweet Momma and my dear best friend arrived at. I would recommend Norfolk International Airport for all your coastal Virginia and northeast North Carolina needs! Thanks, Norfolk International!
