First, The staff is extremely rude, provides bold face lies of current course conditions while taking your money, conversely the conditions are sub par at best, divets in the greens, scrotch fairways the pace of play is god awful 3 hrs for nine hole and the conditions. This place is circus and has turned into an absolute dog track of a course. Won't ever be playing here again. read more

Overlook Golf Club - Golf Near Me - Hollis, New Hampshire

Course is beautiful. Great shape great greens. Great spot to play however....:. Tee off was at 1:15pm. Played 6 holes in two hours. Called the pro shop in which they explained slow pace of play and the season being the fall so golfers lose golf balls in the leaves (I get it). We would describe the group in front were not maintaining pace and the group ahead was already off the green when they were on the tee box. They said they would send a ranger out but never saw one and finished the front 9 in over 3 hours. Upon the turn, the starter said carts needed to be in by 6pm firmly. We finished at 615 (most groups left at that point on the back 9). As we were leaving, the starter told another staff member via radio that if they didn't have the cart in ASAP they would call the cops because of insurance reasons. Ive never heard this excuse before (including being a staff member on a course in the past) and it's insane to me they would use this threat. No rangers, no space between tee times, and then rush off the course by use of threats to call authorities. read more

The course itself was in great shape & at $45 w/cart it's a good value. Pace of play was good but it was a hot Tuesday morning. My issue was the clubhouse. The hot dog was gross & the lavatory smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Sure, it's not a "country club" but at least put a little effort into what you have. read more

Golf course solid 3.5 stars . Now let me vent 12:06 tee time . Play was very slow . Ok NBD , made turn app 3:50pm . Starter tells us must be off course by 4:45 pm as golf leagues starting times I guess . Um no one informed us of this when we started . No way are we going to be able to finish . No rangers on course to speed up play . We decide can't finish . Go to clubhouse to express our dilemma. Clubhouse person states if your on the last couple of holes you can finish ! WTF ! Why didn't starter inform us of this ??? Well you can have rain check ! No we want refund onto our credit card or cash ! No we can't do that . Really ??? What if I was from out of town on vacation and never coming back again ??? Sorry I'm pissed of this situation! Starter and clubhouse guys were nice enough I just disagree with the policy ! read more

My father and 7 of his buddies had a terrible experience with a rude racist starter. They had two groups of four. Directly in front of them was another group of four, and before them was a group of six youth. Movement was slow on the course. When my father's group got to the tenth hole, the starter came up to them and told them to hurry up and get off the course by 4:45pm. One of my father's friend asked, how do you expect us to move any faster when there are two groups directly ahead of us, with one group of six? The starter replied saying he can't control how fast the six youth move and that my father's group had to finish by 4:45pm regardless of what hole they were on. My father then went up to the group of four directly in front of them and asked if the starter asked them to finish by 4:45pm. They stated that no one said anything and no one approached them at all. At that point, my father and his buddies were pissed that they were targeted. Needless to say they will not be returning to Overlook and will not recommend it to their friends. read more

I appreciated that the rangers/starters working this afternoon,10/13 @ 3:00 pm. - one of the gentleman gave me a ride back to the pro shop from hole 1. It was a very nice gesture and appreciated that I didn't have to walk up the hill. Now this a gentleman course! We will be back again. read more

We were supposed to have a golf outing here for my fathers 70th birthday. It ended up raining and we didn't have a rain date so we decided to have a small party in the clubhouse. Everyone we dealt with in the pro shop and clubhouse were so friendly and accommodating. Particularly Leah in the clubhouse- she went above and beyond to make the day so special!! I can't recommend Overlook enough and can't wait to go back to get in our round! I've golfed there many times and it's always been spectacular but today blew me away....even without the golf! read more

This is a great course where most holes are challenging yet fair. I play here often and I live in Mass. it sounds farther than it is but it is close to Nashua. The course is in great shape. The fairways are beautiful and the greens run true. It is pretty much walkable except for an uphill climb to the 8th tee. The staff is friendly and they do a great job. There's a nice grill there too for the 19th hole. There is a nice putting but no driving range, which is the only shortcoming. Would highly recommend. read more

Challenging is right. This is a unique, well kept, and challenging course tucked away in Hollis, New Hampshire. - I played here on a Sunday. I've driven by many times, but never knew there was a golf course in there. It's not easy to see from the street. As you drive in, you see the parking lot and clubhouse. The pro shop is small but it has some nice things. Locker rooms are nice. The little grill / restaurant area is really nice. They sell the usual golf-course things here - hot dogs, cigars that are dried out, cookies, candy, burgers. I wish someone would maintain cigars at these places. They're always terrible. - But anyway the place has a green off to the side for chipping. No driving range here - but they have 2 little cages/nets for hitting your irons or woods. You have to walk up a path to get to the giant putting green. It's by the first tee, so if there's a backup, you can at least putt around until it's your turn. A starter waits by the first tee and will actually collect one of the 3 receipts you get from the cashier. You can't play unless he gets that piece of paper from you. Don't lose your receipts!!! I thought that was odd. I've never received so much paperwork from a golf course before. - It's a nice course! Green. Lush. Pretty. Some of those holes are darn challenging. Tough greens to hit. Water hazards just sucking your ball in. Odd angles. It's fun but it will drive you nuts. - It cost around $64 for me to play with a cart. Average for this area. I had a good time, despite losing 7 balls. I'd go again. read more

I played this course many times since it opened years ago. I played it recently and the course was in good shape. Before we made tee times, we checked that they still had the special that allowed replay for the cost of the cart. When we finished our round and asked for replay, they informed us they no longer had that special. I told them that the website still had it listed and they then told me they didn't have any open tee times. I went to the first tee and there were no groups that teed off for 20 minutes. I had not seen the staff in the past - not sure if this course is under new management or if there was just a turnover in staff. Based on our experience, we will no longer be playing this course. read more

The course was in great condition. The fairways were perfect, the greens perfect, and the staff was excellent. Love the holes along the river and was impressed by the conditions, especially when so many course are struggling from the lack of rain. Drove over 90 minutes to meet a friend here. Very pleased with my first-time experience at Overlook. Our foursome played the front-nine holes at twilight on a Saturday night; we essentially had the course to ourselves, and no one bothered us despite our slow play (the one pair that caught up to us were very friendly and agreeable in playing through). The staff gave us space, and our one interaction with the guy at the register was fine. The course itself is well kept, and benefits from being built in a beautiful location, right on a river. The front nine holes start off fairly easy but get progressively more challenging as you move along. Luckily alternate tee-off sections kept things doable for the beginners in our group. All in all, a very good course worth the reasonable pricing. Final Score: 8.5/10. read more

My husband and I have been going here for years and it is a nice course. They do have a problem on the weekends-it's called overbooking. The pay a marshall to be there but he never ever speeds up play. It is very common to wait for 20 minutes on every hole. Not fun! I am not sure why they even pay this guy! I'd have to say this is my favorite golf course in southern New Hampshire. I don't usually play during peak hours, so I can't speak to how they handle crowds, but I have had several excellent experiences here. The course is interesting, challenging, beautiful, and well maintained. I played here once early in the season and there were a few temporary greens out there, but came back more recently and all greens were open for play and in quite good condition. The layout is a lot of fun. Many elevation changes. Uphill and downhill tee shots, valleys, etc. There are several par 4's that require a wood or low iron off the tee. It's nice when a course doesn't allow you to just blast a driver off every tee. You need to play this course with your head. The course is a nice balance of open and wooded. It's set up in a way that provides some nice tree lines and shade, but you usually seem to be able to find your ball following mis-hit shots. Some nice ponds and streams, just a well balanced course. All the folks I have dealt with at The Overlook were very nice as well. As I said, I think this is my favorite course in southern New Hampshire that I have visited so far. I plan on playing here several more times during the season. read more

The slogan says it all...a public club with a private feel! The family owned course is always in excellent shape and the staff always make you feel welcome. The layout is challenging but accessible for all skill levels. This is definitely one of my favorite courses in New England! Oh! And their grill menu is excellent as well. One of the best courses on the area! The layout is challenging in some spots but forgiving in other spots. The staff is great and the course is reasonably priced at under 55 with a cart. Beautiful scenic water holes and well maintained tee to green! A must play if you're looking to head a little north of Boston (about a 45 minute drive), well worth the trip! read more

The course is quite nice and provides a good challenge. My only complaint is that the grounds crew was all over the place from 9 am to noon. Between the leaf blowers and the extra pauses while a mower or crew member was riding in front of the tee, it was very distracting for the entire round. Despite that, its a very unique 18 hole course. We'll be back... hopefully, when the grounds crew has left for the day. read more

This is a nice course. Very well maintained and accurate shots are needed. The staff is friendly and there is a nice clubhouse with food and beverages. An issue we ran into on a not so crowded course this past Friday was the Pace. 18 holes should not take 6 hours when there are groupings of 2's and 3 ahead of you. My take, it was a lot of memebers who are retired. No ranger to push pace that we saw. I would play here again for the challenge, but will do more research on best times and days to go. read more

Overall nice condition and layout. It can challenge all golfers. More of a target golf, course. Played a hand full of times and always in good shape. All the small ponds give the course a scenic view. The best part of course is the wedge practice area, where you can hit to up to a 70 yard shots. Also has two bunkers to practice short game. But no driving range:(. The club house is newer than other club houses in area. Would play again, but about 10 dollars to much. read more

We played the front 9 walking last week. Big error. Holes 7 and 8 are very vertical and wore us out before we could hit. Other wise I really enjoyed the course, which was in nice condition. This week we are doing the back 9 in carts!! read more

Played there on Sunday afternoon . Was pretty slow which I can understand except they have a starter ywho said nothing to the group that was slowing the course. I hit a ball left on hole six the ball was in the rough on one. I saw where it landed and when i couldn"t find it, my girlfriend said she saw the starter near there .I hit another ball finished the hole . I went up to the starter on one asked him if he picked up my ball and he said "probably". After looking thru a dozen balls in his cart he found it . Then he got argumentative and told me to keep my ball on the fairway. Anyone who has played the game has missed the fairway. He was very unprofessional and rude. Maybe it was slow because there looking for balls that are in his cart!!!. I have played there before and like the layout but he really left a bad taste in my mouth. Played Friday, 9/4/15. Haven't played Overlook in a while, probably 10 years or so. Having played this course a number of times, the number of doglegs were not a shock. Since we played on an offday, can't really comment on the pace. We were a cart twosome, caught the cart foursome in front, played through, Bob's your uncle, no problem. What's the reason for the 3/5 stars ? The grounds crew and the sand bunkers. The grounds crew was ubiquitous. Every hole, there was someone tending to a hole. If you're like me and teeing off while a crew tends to the hole, power down their landscaping equipment and wait until you pass by, is the equivalent of trying to urinate in the troff at Foxboro, you'll understand my trepidation. Someone was always there. If we're approaching a green, someone would stand quietly off to the side as we approached. Teeing off ? On at least 6 holes, we'd have an audience of grounds crew off to the side waiting until we moved on to continue their maintenance. May not bother some of you, but really gets in my head. Barely enough room for the voices I already have in there. The bunkers were atrocious. Very hard. Maybe 1/4 inch of loose sand before hitting hardpack. I'm usually good out of the sand. But the deplorable condition of the bunkers made it impossible to get under the ball and blast it out. My SW bounced off the hard ground and, instead of coming out under the ball with a nice blast of sand behind it, hit the ball thin and twice hit the side of the bunker and rolled back in. What was good ? The fairways were in excellent condition, the greens were in great shape. Smooth ball strike and a good pace on the green. read more
