My mother was a resident at The Sheridan at Bethel Park for 4 years. Senior Lifestyles is the…read morecorporation that runs these facilities. They advertise themselves as an assisted living facility which means they are governed by certain state regulations. During my mom's stay there, they have gone thru 4 executive directors and 5 RNs. The facility's most recent director and RN resigned a few weeks ago after having worked at the Bethel Park facility for just 3 months. That left the facility without a director on site and without any nursing supervision. As a practicing RN myself over the past 40 years, I believe they are in violation of several state regulations as they claim to be an assisted living facility. My mom paid $6700 a month and the only service she really received was medication administration. And that was a disaster. All too often, I would walk into my mom's apartment and find her medications in a cup on a table that was not in her line of sight. On other occasions, I found pills in her chair, on the floor, or in the sink. As an RN, if I sign a document indicating I gave a client their medication, that means I witnessed them taking it. I know most of these places are run by med techs because it's cheaper labor for the company. I dI'd not expect med techs to do anything but witness my mom taking her meds. That's a service we paid for. Because that was a grievous issue numerous times from my perspective, I contacted a director from the corporate office on two occasions. Needless to say, the problem persisted which led me to assume that corporate was really only interested in collecting the residents' money each month. Because The Sheridan was no longer a safe place for my mom to reside, my family and I chose to move her to a facility that was 5 hours away from the city that she's lived in for 93 years. That in and of itself was very traumatic to her. For the past many years, I've been under the impression that only the elderly that could afford it got good care. After our experience with The Sheridan and SeniorLifestyles organization, I've come to realize that affordability does not equate with good care. It was heartbreaking for me the day we walked my mother out of The Sheridan and all because I knew there were well over 100 elderly folks still residing in that facility many of whom probably had no advocate to speak for them. What an abomination that corporate America and specifically Senior Lifestyles would take advantage of one of our country's most vulnerable populations. I am thankful for many of the staff that cared for my mom along the way doing their best in a situation that should never have happened. I am thankful those individuals have moved on. I have absolutely no respect for Senior Lifestyles corporation and would never recommend The Sheridan as a place to live. I rated this organization a "1" because I had to give the review some star rating. If I had it my way, they wouldn't have received anything above a "0."

Although there are some wonderful care givers here, it doesn't make up for the deplorable care your loved one will get. Look at reviews on other sites like Google. They are usually short-staffed, and the support, like the social worker and business office are horrible. My brother has COPD and dementia. They offer no support for family members who are trying to navigate through protecting their loved ones. In fact, they encourage dissent, which could potentially leave the resident with no one to advocate for them. Twice, my brother ended up in the hospital. Both times, my other brother and i had to push the staff to check my brother. No one was coming in his room. If we weren't there to find someone, he would be dead. This is no exaggeration. No communication. I learned my brother was receiving Hospice Care from.an outside facility, following up with me. Today, I found out that, for the last month, they have been working with my brother to go home. While the social worker said they don't need to tell us when he's being discharged, the members of the Hospice said they were assuming my other brother and I would help with his care, which cannot happen. The social worker is q constantly talks over people when they try to talk. I am now making sure that I have someone else on the line with me, communicating by email, and/or recording conversations, because staff members told my brother I'm "imagining things." Saying something like this to a patient with dementia, which causes him to be paranoid, is not only irresponsible, its potentially life-threatening. I can only assume that they said this to cover up for the complaints and concerns I voiced. In meetings, administration has been outright hostile to me, feeding into my brother's paranoia, as well. His dementia symptoms are classically exhibited. The only reason for their actions I can think of, is because I've registered so many complaints, and they're trying to have family members visit him less, so they can get away with their deplorable care. My other brother and I were tag-teaming, going in to be with my brother almost daily. Now, he doesn't trust us, and doesn't believe what we say. I was told by a nurse, when she called to tell me he fell, and that he was running a fever, not to come in, because I "aggravate him." Awful. If you were thinking of having your loved one here, because of their reputation in the past, dont!

After visiting quite a few facilities, we chose Artis. It is bright and clean. The staff are friendly, caring and understand how to care for dementia patients. Although it is a secure facility, it doesn't have a "locked in" feel. My father has been at Artis for two months now. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the entire staff. They treat my dad like family. They call him by name. They genuinely care about him. He is clean. His room is clean. He participates in activities like exercise class, bingo, noodle ball, movies and more. He is happy and comfortable. No, it isn't home. But I feel that it is as close to home as it can possibly be. I know he is safe. I know he is cared for. I know he will not wander away. Thank you to every single member of the Artis staff.

If you want to send your loved ones here or you would like to work here as either a kitchen worker or aid, run and run away fast. Worked as a server for almost a year and had to leave because I didn't feel morally correct continuing to work there. It's borderline abuse for the residents, they are fed the same things every week, nothing cooked fresh all frozen and often times cooked improperly using a shortcut to make it quicker and easier for the line cook. Extremely unsanitary conditions the dishwashing machine barely gets the job done and would fail any state inspection. It's not a stretch to say that some of the deaths in this building were a direct result of the kitchen and nurses neglecting the residents dietary needs and serving food that would immediately be pitched at any restaurant. In regards to employment, you will have absolutely no job security working here. The Executive Operations officer Tammy McElhose who has authority over the entire building has successfully gotten rid of 3 dining directors, 2 human resource directors, multiple servers and multiple nurses all in one calendar year. The lack of management directly comes from her firings, making the nurses and kitchen staff job much more difficult without having a boss to lead the way. If your looking to find a new place to work, or send your loved one to a nice home to live out their golden years, RUN far away from Integracares Pines of Mt Lebanon location, your loved one will be susceptible to the neglect and horrible conditions that are found there.
