This place is truly magical. Most photos don't do it justice. One would have to experience in person to really understand it's extraordinary quality. Had the pleasure of being invited to a wedding here last weekend. Dropped by for the rehearsal (my husband was a groomsmen) and stayed a second time for the actual wedding. Gosh, this venue is amazing! The mood is ethereal and the vibe is clean, organic, zen and natural. Settings such as these are oh so rare. Pros: - Outrageously beautiful. - Super clean. - Well maintained inside and out. - Spectacular view of the water. Almost panoramic. - Lovely second level outdoor deck with views. - Very cool indoor space on the first level. The open floor plan includes a living/ entertaining area, kitchen with high end appliances, and full bathroom. The bathroom was large and completed with quality craftsmanship and materials. Ideal space to host a bridesmaids pre-wedding breakfast and big enough for all to get ready together. The space itself is large enough to host a good sized bridal party without feeling cramped. Could also be used as storage for wedding reception supplies. - Additional second floor guest bathroom. - Despite the rectangular layout, venue can hold quite a lot of guests. Wedding I attended was around 100. Cons: - Incredibly steep driveway and walkway to get to the location. Those who have issues with walking or stairs will have a hard time walking up to the site. Believe me- I'm born and raised in San Francisco and this baby was ridiculously steep. Some wedding guests had to be driven up and down in golf carts. - Many, many, many stairs. There are more stairs through the private ceremonial entrance than there are through the main entrance (which is the brick staircase in front of the building). Again, for those who have issues with stairs it's something to consider. - Felt a little chilly in February. Overall, I'll never ever forget this special place and I feel blessed to have been invited to enjoy such a whimsical ceremony here. Hands down one of the most unique venues I've ever experienced. We had the most beautiful wedding imaginable at Overlook Hall, and it was truly a joy to work with Anna throughout the entire process of planning and carrying out this amazing day! I highly recommend having your wedding here on Catalina Island at Overlook. It was the perfect location for our 55 guests and could definitely accommodate quite a few more comfortably while still feeling intimate. We loved being surrounded by our family members all weekend and getting to see them everywhere on the island when we walked around. There were so many fun activities that we could do before and after the wedding, too - ten of us went zip lining the day before, and several of our guests went snorkeling and parasailing over the weekend. Even better than the location was the incredible service and attention to detail given by Overlook Hall. Anna was extremely kind and considerate with all of her communication throughout the entire year between when we came to see the hall and had the wedding. She truly went above and beyond with every aspect of our special day, and we are so grateful to her for helping make our wedding dreams come true! Not only did Overlook help us with planning, let us use the hall the night before for the rehearsal dinner at a very low hourly rate, and help coordinate vendors throughout the wedding week, but Anna also took photos during the wedding and sent them to us afterward so we would be able to share memories right away rather than wait weeks for the professional photographer's photos. It was an absolutely unparalleled, incredible experience working with Overlook Hall! Thank you so much!! read more

The Overlook Hall was the best place in the entire world let alone Avalon that my husband and I could have been married at for our 10.01.16 wedding! This historical venue is a treasure being that it is very affordable and so stunning inside and out, the views of Catalina are amazing, and there are no words for how helpful and sweet the wedding/event manager is. Ana is absolutely wonderful to work with and truly cared about our big day from the moment we met her. We just can't recommend The Overlook Hall enough! I would recommend the Overlook hall a thousand times over! The hall is beautiful, and is at a perfect location for guests and a breath-taking view. The truest heaven sent treasure of renting the hall however was the privilege of working with Anna. She was prompt to answer any questions, and always very accommodating to all our needs. Considering we don't live on the Catalina island, it seemed like it would have been a headache to plan a wedding from afar. With all the details of transporting stuff and storage logistics it would have been impossible without her cheery help. Quick story time... One of may tiny details I will never forget. My uncle had to build the wooden arch the morning of the day of the wedding. When he arrived and started working on it all was well until he realized the electric drill he brought over dropped dead :o ! I simply can not imagine what the wedding would have been like without the arch, as we had a minimal wedding and the arch played a vital role in decoration... Fortunately, to the rescue came Anna & sent her husband to snatch one from their home! My experience planning a wedding with The Overlook hall is nothing short of AMAZING, truly an answer to prayers. We used Overlook Hall as our wedding venue a couple of weeks ago and we couldn't have been happier with the venue, location, price and service from all staff members involved! The location has a gorgeous view and was perfect for our 75 out of town guests. It's very close to hotels, restaurants and just a short walk from the boat dock. We worked with Jenea and Anna from Overlook Hall over the last year organizing and planning every detail. Both ladies were professional, kind and extremely helpful. They went above and beyond to help us find and contact local Catalina vendors for food, alcohol, flowers, cake etc. Without their assistance it would have been extremely difficult to coordinate, being that we're not from the island. The actual wedding day was everything we imagined and more. Anna made sure everything ran smoothly and on time so we could relax. We would recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married on the island. We will forever be thankful to the Overlook Hall Team for making our wedding perfect! read more

We had our wedding here at the end of September and had a great experience! We were planning a wedding on a budget from LA and were so happy to find such a versatile venue. We can't speak highly enough of Overlook Hall! Anna is fantastic and went above and beyond on a daily basis in answering our questions and assisting in the planning process via phone and email. She was by far the best vendor we worked with from the island! The venue is beautifully historic, has high vaulted ceilings, gorgeous views, and an amazing patio! We held our ceremony upstairs and hosted a cocktail hour in the downstairs suite while the upstairs was flipped for the reception. Anna and staff were so helpful in setting up pews, chairs, and tables. Plus they include chair covers and table linens, you can't beat that! They also had great vendor recommendations, and went above and beyond in coordinating with our caterer. To top it all off, you can bring your own alcohol, so overall this is a great place if you're on a tight budget...or just really like awesome people and great customer service! read more

Overlook Hall was most recently my office away from New York as it was used as a "war room" during my business trip last month. Before arriving, I had no idea our venue would be so beautiful. The hardwood floors are nice, and the place was flooded with sunshine at all times of the day. It was in a very central area in town, and was a five minute walk towards anything near the harbor. The view from outside was lovely. I didn't have to walk too far because I thought the view of the water and the boats was great. I even loved the bathroom: it had a "home-like" feel and airy, complete with a claw bathtub. When I look back on it, I think I was almost a little spoiled to be able to work here for a few days! I imagine it is just as lovely as a reception hall or for get togethers. I hope to return again someday. Thank you for the great hospitality! read more

This is one of the best event venues on Catalina Island! We come over from LA every month to hold our Catalina Film Society movie screenings here. Tall cathedral ceiling, beautiful wood floors and beams, and the bathrooms are really spacious and elegant for our guests. We've never had a problem with the staff, and everything is all set up for us before we arrive - which is great after getting off a boat and checking into a hotel right before putting on an event. They even were able to convert the space from a wedding to our film screening in under 2 hours once!!! Can't say enough - thanks again!!! read more

This place is a historic gem- and it has been polished to a high shine. We just had the opportunity to exhibit artwork here, and were impressed with overall the feel of the room- beautiful light, exposed beams, as well as details such as antique furniture in the wc. beautiful hardware on the entry door. We worked with Mike, the owner and Anna, to plan the logistics and details of the event, and they were a pleasure to work with. Anna graciously handled things from the big to the small with professionalism, and grace. Bravo! Oh, and if you get a chance to see the bridal suite downstairs- don't miss it! On November 12, 2016 my husband and I had our wedding at Overlook Hall on Catalina Island. The views were beautiful, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the historical venue was absolutely amazing. Anna the event manager at Overlook Hall is the best. She was wonderful to work with from the first day we got in contact with her. She is kind, sweet, down to earth and a honest individual. She did everything to make this special day of ours it's absolute best. She answered every question I had through email or phone quick and promptly. As hectic as weddings are, she was able to make everything at ease. It was amazing to work with her. Our family and friends still can't stop talking about what a beautiful wedding it was and one of the best ones they have been to. We had our food catered from Steve's steakhouse, which was super delicious. We fully recommend Overlook Hall for any special occasion. We couldn't be more thankful for everything Anna and the owner Mike has done for us. They are very professional and willing to work with you in any way possible. My husband and I just had our wedding at Overlook Hall on 7-8-16. This was hands down the best venue we looked at on the island (and WAY better than anywhere we looked at on the mainland). I cannot thank the staff enough for all of their help the day of the wedding, and through all the planning. We planned the wedding from our home in San Diego, so it was not like we could drive over to the venue whenever we needed, but the staff was so professional and always responded to calls/emails (and quickly which wasn't the case with the other venues we looked at on the island). The view from the balcony was breathtaking, the hall itself is very rich and warm, with a nice feeling of the history of the island with a modern flair! If you are entertaining the idea of having a wedding (or reception of any sort in Avalon) I highly suggest Overlook Hall. it's everything I said above and more for a very affordable price! read more

Beautiful venue. Nice for business meetings, parties, or weddings. Remodeled location. The staff was attentive to our requests and responsive to questions. The only bad thing I could even begin to say about it is that it only has one restroom upstairs and one in the meeting room downstairs. And I mean one, not one men's and one women's... just one restroom. With smaller events or parties I am sure this is not an issue as it was not an issue for our group of 20 for a meeting. I appreciated not being hit with extra charges for use of the screen, projector, and easels with paper. The hardwood floors and exposed beams are so pretty and unique. They set up the venue however you like. I would use them again and look forward to doing business with them. We also used the smaller room downstairs for a group of 5 and it was perfect. The downstairs has a fridge, stove, and coffee maker too. I would highly recommend this venue. Parking would be nice for dropping off things at the meeting but this situation is typical of Avalon. read more

We returned to Overlook Hall this summer for our annual Nick Mayer Art Workshop titled Focus on Feathers. The space is a perfect, quiet, and serene setting ideal for focusing on watercolor painting. What a beautiful and historic venue! We used this space for a dinner party of just over 60 people, plus a small band for entertainment. The interior features beautiful hardwood floors, exposed wood ceiling beams and large windows with wrought iron detail. The exterior offers a unique view of Avalon and the ocean.
