Very casual dining. Food is simple but good. Sometimes it takes a while to get food after ordering.

If this course was on Scotland, they'd be chartering flights.to go play it…read more My in-laws are in Kearney and I sneak out to G'burg at least once every visit. The course looks like it was layed out as the earth formed and somebody had the good sense to mow it, drop in some cups and build a clubhouse. Wild Horse is a seriously amazing course, not pretentious, just an all-around great golf experience. Do yourself a favor and figure out how to get there. It's the deal of the century.

Course was good, not amazing, like you'd think for being a top 100 public course, but good. The…read morereason I'm giving it 3 stars, and not 4 stars, is I left my range finder there and I called them to see if they have it, they did. They proceeded to tell me someone will get it back touch with me to ship it to me, bc I live 5 hours away, "when they have time". That's a typically code word for "it's not really that important to us, but when we absolutely have nothing to do will get it done if we think about it". But, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I waited a few days, nothing heard back. I called them back, and politely asked them again if they have gotten to it. they said they'd get it taken care of, great! So I waited a few more days, nothing heard back. Now, I'm getting irritated and frustrated, today, I call back, and the guy says the person who can take care of this isn't in today, I mean seriously, is it really that difficult to ship it back? I'm offering to pay for it. Now. I'm telling him how frustrated I am because this isn't getting done like they say they would, and he gets all upset bc he can't take an ounce of frustration from anyone, then hangs up, after telling me "maybe you should look after your stuff better" Guys, grow the f up, as if none of you have ever misplaced anything and needed someone's help, what're we, 5 years old and completely self unaware? It takes 5 minutes, 5 f'in minutes to get this done! This goes to show how customer oriented they are, which, they obviously aren't. I were them, I'd have it done within a day, or delegate it to someone else bc this is such an easy task; I shouldn't need to wait over a week for them to even start the shipping process. Anyone can get this done, it's simple. Seriously, do better, this is ridiculous, y'all sound like a bunch of 95 year olds who take 10 times longer to get things done than it should.

Clubhouse staff couldn't be better. Unfortunately, one the problem is nearly a deal-killer. They have the most arrogant, passive-aggressive, inconsiderate greens-keeping staff I've ever seen, in about 50 years of golf. I hate to complain, because the rest of the staff is so good, and so accommodating. But when you have to wait on the tee several times in the same round while a greenskeeper mows the entire fairway, not once just pausing to give a chance for a safe hit, it tends to destroy what would otherwise be a truly excellent experience. I've worked as a greenskeeper, and I understand the need to get the work done; and it's my choice to go out early, when they are working. I'm always deferential to the workers and let them keep working whenever it's not literally in my way. But I've played this way my entire life and have never seen any place where I've been made to wait while the greenskeeper does his entire job, when a brief pause would let us both be on our way. In fact, I usually end up making good friends of the greenskeepers. Not here.

This is a challenging course, and not one for beginners. Because of the elevation changes, it's easy to misjudge distance, so bring a range finder. Greens are not lightning fast like many desert courses (there are cactus out here). On one hole, you're so close to a Wendy's that you can walk over and get a Frosty while others in your group tee off. Heritage Hills is a gem and must-play if in the area.

It's an hour north of where I grew up in northwest Kansas and is an easy drive and an excellent test of golf skill. Growing up in high school, they used to have a $10 greens fee for students on weekdays and I'm actually not sure if they still have that, but even if it's more than $10, it's definitely still worth it. This golf course is definitely not for beginners. There are huge slope changes and many blind shots. There are also a bunch of bunkers, lots of tall native grass, extremely undulating greens and the course has a little bit of length. It gets extremely difficult playing in the wind, and in SW Nebraska it blows pretty hard 320+ days of the year. I came up to Nebraska for the annual John Mullen Memorial Pro-Am Tournament. It's an extremely well run event, and always raises between $15,000-20,000 for the foundation which is really awesome considering the small town. The pro's get paid well if you play well so it attracts many good players who want to play a great golf course and have a chance at some good money (winner gets paid $2200 on a $150 entry fee) Anyway, the golf course is fantastic. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me is because the greens aren't as fast and demanding as they used to be. It was a cool and wet spring so the grass hasn't filled in as well as usual so they couldn't chop down the greens, but they used to be really really difficult, and the harder; the better!!! Now it seems you really have to "hit" the ball instead of just being able to stroke it and get it started down your line. I saw a lot of good putts that should be fast, that were hit on a good line, and the grass slowed them down and they missed low and short. If they could speed them back up, this course is a 5 star experience.
