We would like to relay our experiences working with Chris as our realtor and how it came to be that…read moreChris ended his working relationship with us. Please understand that these are only our experiences and that people may learn, change and behave differently in the future. My husband first talked to Chris about a year ago based on a recommendation. After the initial discussion where Chris talked about his client's high satisfaction, his strong work philosophy and the experience he has, including being a builder, we decided that we would like to use him. After a year of searching on our own, we found the new home that we liked and contacted Chris again in mid-March so that we could start work on the contract. My husband met with Chris and the builder in early April to price out the options and after 2 weeks the builder emailed Chris and my husband the pricing on the custom options. My husband called Chris that Friday to talk about the options and the next steps that needs to be taken. After a few minutes Chris was busy with another client and asked if he could call my husband back. Sure, not a problem. Two days later I told my husband to call Chris and inquire as to why he has not called us back especially since the builder gave us a deadline of tomorrow to contract. During the conversation, I expressed my unhappiness with Chris and it was during that conversation that Chris stated that it seems that we were not a good fit for each other and it would be best if we worked with another realtor. That was the end of the conversation. Why was I unhappy with Chris? Let me start by saying the below occurred in a one and a half month timeframe (mid-March - end of April) with a deadline at the end of April. Even after being told the deadline was end of April, near the end of March Chris asked did we want this done at the end of March. My husband reminded him, that it was the end of April. During that time, we felt he was scattered-brained and not detailed-oriented. Even after sitting with my husband and the builder when pricing the options, he could not remember what took place. Although he is fast to respond to emails and phone calls at all hours, he does not remember the content of the conversations or what was in the emails. He said he would contact the lender and get them to email us a worksheet, but nothing came. I understand he can't control the lender, but he never followed up with either the lender or ourselves to see if we received the information we needed. He said he would call us back, but did not. When we inquired about why he did not call us back, he said that he thought he has called us back and we spoke already (he was of course mistaken). He was told about our end of April deadline to contract, but even 4 days before the builder's deadline to contract, there was no sense of urgency to either call us, or schedule the meeting to contract. Even after making it clear in multiple conversations and emails, he did not understand our singular need. We just basically wanted him to try and negotiate for an additional $4200 in closing costs. It felt like we always had to stay on top of him instead of hiring him to stay on top of stuff for us. We believe it might be that Chris has been very successful and has over time taken on too many clients and can not keep track of everything. All the faults above, I can handle. But the biggest reason why I am unhappy is when I told Chris about why I was unhappy (the above list), he did not mitigate my concerns at all. Instead of actively listening to mollify my anxieties, he instead proceeded to feel insulted and started to get defensive. He rolled out his list of credentials and expert knowledge, the satisfaction he has provided his previous clients, spoke generally about how he is detailed-oriented, how he works hard for his clients, or how he works to get the best deal for his clients. All I wanted was to know concretely that Chris understood my concerns and what specifically he was going to do in the next few days to alleviate my concerns. He did not do that. I did not need to meet with Chris to talk about this more. I did not need to know Chris's past successes. I did not need Chris to speak Platitudes and generalities. I needed Chris to show me, not tell me. Chris did not understand me as a client and he did not seek to understand my concerns. So in the end he told us we were not a good fit. It seems we were expecting too much.
