There is also a projector screen and large tv that are used for showing sports events. Posters are displayed around the pub that provide you with the details of what is being shown for the next few weeks. Atmosphere: On a match night Rodney's is always buzzing. The last time I went Arsenal were playing Porto and the pub was absolutely packed. We could hear the cheers as we walked up Mortimer street! Once inside the pub we found a table near to the projector screen and watched the match. Everyone was in a good mood and the drinks were flowing. Drinks: There is a large selection of lager, cider, alcopops and wine on offer at Rodneys sports bar. All are sold at reasonable prices and the bar runs along two walls of the pub so there is always an opportunity to get to the bar when the pub is busy. Sporting opportunities: As well as the sports viewing facilities I have already mentioned Rodneys has a pool table and a darts board. You can play darts for free (just ask for the darts at the bar) whilst the pool table costs £1 for a game. The pool table itself is in a little room separated from the main part of the pub. Around the pool table there are several places to sit and overhead lighting. As the pool table is in a separate room it is easier to play a game as there is normally no-one other than you in the pool room. However there are several places in the pool room where your cue will hit the wall. The pool table itself is also not that sturdy and will move if you knock into it. It also seems to be on a slight angle. These issues do not affect your ability to play a game significantly and often provide you with a large amount of humour as your ball rolls down the table on its own accord. Staff: Several bar staff work at Rodneys. All of them are polite and friendly and add to the brilliant atmosphere of the pub. Overall: Rodney's is the best place in Herne Bay to go and watch a game, play darts or shoot some pool. Or if your not feeling sporty you can have a quiet drink on one of the benches outside. Whatever you end up doing you can't go wrong in Rodney's. Herne Bay's sportiest pub.

The food and drinks are cheap but the quality of both are somewhat questionable. Food: The food at this establishment is 'questionable'. Yes it is cheap and you should not expect gourmet food for £4.85. When I go in and have a few pints I end up ordering a 'beer and a burger'. For £4.85 the amount you get is actually rather good but I have not had a burger that I have actually enjoyed yet. The food normally arrives on your table late and lukewarm. The drink that comes with it does represent good value for money however. Drinks: We all know Wetherspoons is cheap and I normally stick to the cheapest pint I can find it which is Carlsberg at £2.25. I have always thought that alcohol at Wetherspoons is watered down, obviously I have no evidence to suggest this but I am sure a lot of other people think the same thing. Atmosphere: There is no music in the Saxon Shore which does make the whole place rather boring. There is a widescreen telly but for some reason the sound is never on which basically renders the telly useless when you go to watch sports. The people who visit Wetherspoons could be described as 'shady' and thats about as far as I'm going too with that statement. Staff: Some of the bar staff are good, whereas some are terrible. One female member of staff saw me waiting and served people who came in after me without even looking at me despite using the till I was standing in front of. Eventually I went and found another member of staff and ordered my food and drinks. There is a particular guy who works on Friday evenings who is brilliant. He is polite and helpful and often has a chat. The experience you have really depends on the member of staff who serves you. Overall: Its cheap, the service is 'ok', the staff are 'ok', the food is actually quite bad but its cheap and when your drunk you just don't care. The atmosphere could be a lot better. You only have to go into the top Canterbury wetherspoons to see how good this chain of pubs can be. Overall I am giving this pub 2 stars because of the lack of quality with the food and the alcohol and also due to the several rude staff who float around behind the bar.

Update: this is definitely the best if the twickenham trio of bbq joints. Staff are quirky but very friendly. Dulce de leche icecream/shake is to die for. Wings excellent. Sweet potato fries great. St louis ribs good. Beans with pulled pork very nice. Avoid the mac and cheese options, and pickles. Update 2: chilli watery, lacking in depth. Corn bowl okay. Slaw good but spicy.

The outside and inside decor look like a really terrible American low-quality food chain and I wasn't excited to try it. But! We had the loveliest waitress, very attentive, very happy to walk through the menu and spot on. The guys had banana milkshakes and I loved that they came with little bright green curly straws - cute to see these manly men with their petite straws. The food was really lovely too. One colleague got the hot dog - it was incredible looking, enormous and slathered with stuff. I did think it would be impossible to eat with your hands, but he proved me wrong. My chicken wrap was really tasty and nicely done, and the fries were delicious - possibly the best I've had in a while. When one friend couldn't finish his sausage platter with mac and cheese, the waitress cheerfully wrapped it up for him so he could carry it away. Nice! The music was terrific, a great mix of old blues. So why oh why is there a big screen telly playing current music videos over the bar, complete with naked writhing women and gangsters? Shut it off - you're ruining the vibe you actually got me to like. Is it cheesy? Yes. But it's supposed to be. And it's good. But shut off that damn tv.
