On Saturday, August 1, 2026, I was riding a Citi Bike during the Summer Streets celebration, starting at Dyckman Street, riding down Broadway to Park Avenue, and continuing into Brooklyn. I had my iPhone mounted on the handlebars. Somewhere along the route, I looked down and noticed that my phone was gone. I panicked. My phone was my only point of contact with the two friends I planned to spend the beautiful afternoon with. It was the only way I could contact anyone. I had no idea how or where I had lost it, and the only thing I could think to do was lock up the Citi Bike, get on the subway, and use my computer at home to search for my phone through the Find My app. When I got off the subway and was walking home, I met the first angel who helped me, an NYPD officer. I asked him to call my phone, hoping that someone would answer. He called, and to my surprise, the second angel picked up. It was Dana. She was with the Department of Sanitation, and she had my phone at 110th Street and Broadway. She told me that a good Samaritan had found my phone in the street and handed it to one of her sanitation colleagues. I immediately jumped back on the subway and headed downtown to pick it up. When I arrived, I was shocked by how kind Dana and her colleagues were. None of them had to do the right thing, but every one of them did. In the past, I found someone's suitcase in the back of a taxicab and returned it to the owner. I also found someone's iPod and returned it. I was stunned that so many people cared enough to do the same for me. I was thrilled and deeply grateful for the kindness everyone showed me. I asked to take a photo with them, and they graciously obliged. I do not remember everyone's name, and I am sorry. They are all heroes to me. Zohran, I am talking to you. Please give these wonderful people, along with the police officer who helped me, the keys to New York City. They deserve recognition. It is not about the phone. It is about doing the right thing, which seems to be so rare these days. Better yet, if you can swing it, give them all a two week paid vacation in Hawaii. I mean, seriously. Thank you to everyone who helped me. You are angels.

New York City Department of Sanitation My Heroes include…read morethe NYC Department Sanitation. The garbage never ends. It keeps on coming rain or shine, wind, snow, sleet, and hail. When I was really little my father had the old truck with the tarp on the back. He picked up trash at the rich people's homes in Greenwich. I used to get some great stuff like baby dolls and my mother got dishes etc. After a while my Dad and Uncle saved and borrowed to get the latest model garbage truck. In one of my favorite photos of my Dad he is standing next to the truck with a huge smile on his face. I even have an old news article that my father saved telling about the latest trucks back then. As much garbage as this city has these men are so friendly and pleased to speak to me. They deserve the kind words and praise. They aren't on the news saving lives. In an indirect way they do. Can you imagine with all the rodents and bacteria WITH garbage disposal what it would be like without it? Don't get me started on recycling. What a huge job. Please do me a favor and give them a shout out when you see them hard at work. I was a civil servant over forty years. I didn't have it as good as NYC Employees but I still remember everyone that gave me a kind word and acknowledged my dedication. A compliment doesn't cost you anything.

25th August 2025 Rye, New York…read more Sunny 82°F We were here for a lovely and lively afternoon of entertainment on the lawn of this beautiful estate in late August 2025. Free ice cream cones were served to guests from a local food truck. The Jay Heritage Mansion in Rye, NY, is the 1838 Greek Revival home of American Founding Father John Jay. The mansion is situated on a 23-acre site that was his childhood home and later a safe haven for his family. It is a National Historic Landmark, recognized for its connection to Jay's legacy of diplomacy, anti-slavery advocacy, and as a site representing diverse histories, including enslaved and freed African Americans. There is a lovely garden open to the public during the Spring through early Autumn on specific dates. Tours and visiting hours are listed on their website. Thus, Freedom of the Press was introduced as the First Amendment to our Constitution written in 1776. Just remember that. Freedom of speech. Eventually Saint Paul's Church was moved to its current location in Mount Vernon, NY, after the Revolutionary War. One of the best days I had at a baseball game was the day that I went with my daughter. I'd definitely return to a game but not sure I would bother with Monument Park again. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I've got all the photos of my favorites and my happy memories of my time spent there with my daughter. I'm recommending you go and create your memories. Get lots of photos for when you get older like me. It's not easy to remember everything I saw and everything I did!

I feel lucky to live in the community served by this Fire Department…read more Members of this department installed my car seat when I was pregnant with my first child, my children have attended the Annual Fire Prevention Open House for years. They are very present in the community, from installing car seats, attending Halloween events, and family days, to providing free smoke detectors. Fire Safety trailers at local events, and at the schools are a regular occurrence. During emergencies, I've witnessed them provided quick and efficient responses. I feel safer knowing that these capable firefighters are protecting my community.
