Stopped in here with our 3 year old to check out the kids area. The area as a whole is nice, however, the kids play room is slightly outdated and underwhelming. The play room was unorganized and the toys were run down and outdated. The book area of the kids section was nice and had some stem activities. This is my favorite and most frequented library so far for studying (and I've been to 9 different libraries this year). There are 3 floors. The 3rd floor is a designated quiet floor. And the 2nd floor, although it's not specifically a quiet floor, is usually quiet enough for me to not need headphones. Also, because there are 3 floors, I am almost always guaranteed to find a free table. There are over 30 tables throughout the library (not including cubicles). They also have a little eating area on the first floor which is great if you plan on being there for an extended period of time/during a meal time. They have some snacks you can buy there as well. You can eat non odorous snack foods in the library, but if you have a sandwich or got food delivered, you need to eat in the cafeteria area. Overall, this is my absolute favorite library. Plus all the staff has been very kind to me and super helpful. 10/10 would recommend if you need a quiet place to study for the day! read more

This place is horrible! The librarians do not care about the experience or importance of a students study. I have an Ap exam in two days and I have been kicked out of multiple places in the PUBLIC library which I pay taxes for. I want to shout out a special librarian who kicked us out of a TEEN SPACE which were were allowed previously by 3 other librarians. She insisted this is a 3D printing room only, however on the sign it said it was available if you were willing to make a reservation. Which we were, but Jody was not there (STACY IS the one to kick us out) anyway I want to thank the librarians who tried to accommodate us in the front, and additionally the librarians on the third floor who allowed us to sit there originally. read more

The folks at Syosset Public Library are exceptionally kind and easy to work with. The space is big and there are plenty of nooks and crannies for you to find, plop down, and get to work. They even have a 'cafe' area where you are allowed to eat- one of the librarians told me a lot of people actually order food to the library and take a break from their studies, research, general visit. They also have a bunch of comfy arm chairs that have an outlet built in, so you don't even need to worry about where to plug in your electronics. On my particular visits to the library, I worked with the 20/30's club on writing events. Jessikah and Stacy were a blast and amazingly accommodating to our writing group. On our final meeting they ordered us pizza and gave us brand new books I look forward to working with them in the future! read more

Library has a lot of areas for studying. They also have an area where you can purchase snacks. However, I will say that staff is not the friendliest. They don't seem welcoming. Additionally, male custodian does not knock before entering the woman's bathroom. He has opened the door to the women's restrooms without knocking a couple times that I've experienced personally. There's also one male employee librarian whose buttcrack has been visible on more than one occasion. read more

The only drawback to this library is it's so popular that getting a parking spot can be hard at times especially when they have a program. The reason for this popularity is because this is one of the newest and biggest libraries in the county. Having undergone a massive renovation a few years back this three story library features a cafe, brand new auditorium, conference rooms in the basement and tons of programs for the community. The first floor is big and open with a great selection of DVDs as well as a huge children's area with dedicated computers for kids and the auditorium is also on the first floor. On the second floor they have a fireplace! Great area to chill out and enjoy a read. Third floor has all their computers (tons), study areas and I think the teen/young adult area. The staff is plentiful and friendly. This is a huge library dedicated to providing great service to the community and they do a 5 star job! read more

Outstanding, clean library with a wide array of resources. However, the employees (bottom, first floor especially) have to be some of the rudest individuals I've ever come across. One would think and hope they would do a better job representing the town library with professionalism and decent courtesy. I have had numerous experiences in interacting with this staff but this following encounter is the last straw. Having gone with my mother to renew both our library cards, I was appalled by the overall experience from this one staff member who "helped" us. She was curt, snappy, and seemed dissatisfied in doing her job. She couldn't find my mother's info due to a name change. To try facilitating the process we tried to tell her to look up other names because no one wants to spend extra time on this. However, this woman had the audacity to cut us off by telling us "okay, calm down" any time we interjected. She thought she was subtle in her disrespect. We both had proper documentation for renewal and the information was updated in their system. She then said, "okay you guys are set". However, we hadn't received our physical cards. We couldn't believe she thought she was done. "Yes, we would like our cards". This needed to be explicitly stated to this woman, who then showed more attitude towards us till the end. To whoever reads these reviews, there are other past reviews who have stated how unpleasant some of these employees are. This sentiment can be fully corroborated from our experience in a simple renewal of our cards. These employees need to take a continuing education course on exhibiting basic human decency and respect. One would think when hiring a town's library staff, these factors are qualities to look for in the interviewing process. It's evident these people have never learned, and that's the fault of whoever hired them, or they have clearly forgotten. read more

The staff at the Syosset library have been incredible to me. The reference librarians on the 3rd floor went above and beyond helping me print an oversized document from a website. The librarians on the 2nd floor remember the kind of books I like and the ones I dislike. They always give me recommendations keeping my preferences in mind. During the height of the pandemic & honestly during any other crisis like super storm Sandy, the Syosset library is like a beacon of light. I love reading actual books and when I'm done, I love returning them. Use the library!!! You'll be glad you did. read more

This place is awesome. The library is pretty modern and spacious, with just enough study space for individual or group study. A bonus is that the librarians enforce a quiet environment on the third floor. There is an eating area downstairs and local food areas are not too far away (more convenient with driving than walking). If you're planning on an all day study session, this place is good for that. First off the bathrooms are clean and secondly, the chair and table heights are appropriately spaced so that you're not slouched over. There are also plenty of outlets nearby and water fountains. There are a limited number of parking spots, which I've heard people have problems with, but I've never had an issue with getting parking. read more

A shame Rosalie at the front desk is such a racist Karen. Rosalie always goes out of her way to make you feel unwelcome. I had a baby in one hand and she made me take out each book one by one, questioned whether I was allowed to borrow books here probably because I did not fit the demographic she felt comfortable serving. I drove a half an hour to come to this library on a Saturday afternoon. Too bad I'm easily distracted (the main reason I had to find a perfect library to go to) and got there around 3:30 p.m.They close at 5 p.m. Saturdays so I only had a solid hour to do my thing. Syosset Public Library is gorgeous!! Clean, white, big pretty staircase. Nice. Bright. Peaceful. Reminds me of being in college again at a real library with people who are focused on doing work instead of the usual Long Island library with the crazy homeless people who rock back and forth in the quiet section. There are many levels to choose from. Most spots were taken but I found a nice little nook up on the third floor. I was just thrilled by the set up here and it was super quiet too.I made a small dent in what I had to do.I will definitely suck it up and take another trip here if it means a great space to accomplish what I need to get done. This is a really beautiful library. The building is architecturally pleasing, but it's got a lot of emptyspace and a huge amount of glass- a lot of people keep their jackets on There is a small cafe area near one entrance with coffee (pronounced "kawfee" in Lawn Guy Land) and vending machines with snacks. The wi-fi is very fast. Also, I noticed the library staff are very friendly, unlike a multitude of other libraries I have frequented I can't comment on the collection, since I am not a member. read more

Got to be one of the biggest libraries I have been in. The Library is huge and has a great selection of everything, Books, magazines, dvd's, Cd's. All that and free wifi. There are plenty of places to just sit and relax. The only negative aspect as Drew & Tara pointed out is the parking. Definitely not enough parking for the size of the library. read more

Love everything about this Library except one staff who ruins the entire experience every time I go to the library. She is an old white lady with white hair who looks like the most miserable person I have ever met. It is a shame this beautiful library uses an individual like her for the front to "greet" and "help" people. I use those words in quotes because she does neither. She is dismissive, cold, and snappy. Just a bad attitude all around. Perhaps she needs to attend professional development or etiquette courses. read more

Quiet and clean. Fast wifi. Plenty of room to either hide in a corner or grab a desk. Lots of open computers to use if you don't have a lappy 5000 to bring with you. I was there for 4 hours today and I don't think anyone even looked up at me. Perfect for getting work done. They have a small 'cafe ' on the first floor with water coffee and snacks but they have to stay in that area. Parking can be a pain and I always wonder why you would make a library that can fit hundreds of people and then only make 40 parking spots. Wackadillio. I was a little disappointed there was no crazy homeless person hanging out and making strange noises, but whatevs. You can't win em all (is this not a library staple anymore?) One of the best libraries on long island. 4 Floors of epic library. I know you are not used to hearing library and epic in the same sentence, but let me correct your notions in this aspect. Syosset's library has the best collection of books, audio & DVDs that is unparalleled. Most books have either a 14 or 30 day return period, and most of the time you can even renew the book. Out of the country, and want to renew it? Do it using their online service, you can register your card online. This online service also makes it easy to request new books or other materials, renewing books, and even paying fines. Nifty for a public library. Their hours are pretty great, most days are open till 9, except for Sat & Sun. FOR ALL YOU STUDY ANIMALS: There are floors, and floors of study room. Want a bit of noise, some ppl watching? Try the first floor, you can even take a quick break in their cafe area with a magazine. Want to sit on a balcony overlooking some books and the main floor? Try level two, it also has a fireplace on the opposite side. You can even sit by the windows overlooking the parking lot, if you prefer some sun. Don't like to be bothered? Try the cubicles behind the computers, the 3rd floor is really silent. Need absolute silence? Try the quiet study rooms, which are very spacious at the back of the 3rd floor. CONNECT TO WIFI - its free, and very easily accessible to all patrons of the library. I have been coming to this library for over 20 years of my life, and it is wonderful. Even if you don't live in Syosset, grab a cup of coffee and read a newspaper on the first level, it'll be worth your trip! read more

The Syosset Public Library is a great great library. They have many books (although I think they scaled back their collection a little bit after the remodel to make room for more media), lots of DVD's and CD's. The remodel is beautiful and the library looks great. It's quiet, super clean and serves as a great place to read, study or just be surrounded by walls of books! Syosset Public Library holds some great memories from my childhood and I'm so happy to see that its beautiful face lift will ensure this gem of our neighborhood will be here for many years to come. read more

The Syosset Library is a good place to study but one of the downside is that the library closes at 9pm on the weekdays and 5pm on Weekends. When I come to library, I am more focused to study and do my work. But having the library close early interferes with my focus and I lose my train of thought. Back in college, the library closed at 1am everyday and on finals weeks, it was 24 hours. The upside of the library is that there are a lot of programs and places to study. The downside is that there are limited places. Another downside is that there is NO EATING anywhere but the small cafe. The small cafe is always the place that gets packed easily. Syosset is a rich town and the library got renovated for a reason. Why not make a bigger cafe space. read more

One of the nicest libraries I've been to. Clean, modern, and really peaceful. Perfect place for studying. Also isn't over-crowded.

Free fast wifi, three floors of books, and lots of study space. Only problems are the parking is limited and it can be hard to find a seat at peak times. The library offers some nice perks for residents. You can borrow museum passes to places like the Museum of Natural History and the Intrepid. Also there are many books you can take out electronically on an E-reader. Ask a librarian for more information. read more

I love this library and the accessibility it has as far as books and media; however, the children's room staff need to be more personable. My boys are shy to begin with, but always polite.There is no banter or friendliness about their demeanor and speaking as a teacher, the way you make kids feel safe in a learning environment is everything. I avoid this library for programs and come solely to let them do summer reading, teach them how the library catalog works and how to respect books. read more

The library is very open with lots of natural lighting. Parking and table space may be an issue sometimes, especially if you come later in the day. This library is wonderful. The main reason I loved studying at this library is that there were plenty of places to do it. There are three floors, and each floor accommodates different studying styles that students may need. For instance, the first floor seems to be a communal area, great for tutoring or group work. The second floor is a quiet study with nice seating and great natural lighting. And last but not least, the third floor is mostly small cubicles, but also offers a small room where silent study is enforced. read more

Since they renovated, the library has become dear more popular amongst students and adults and tutors. The librarians are helpful and polite, however they do get a bit short with patrons near closing time. Regardless, i highly recommend this library for anybody that needs a quiet place to do work. This library is great for anyone who lives in the area. Their return policy lets you take out books for a month! When I go, I know I'll be there for a long time. They even have an eating area with snacks and drinks. Their hours are really convenient and they're open late and on weekends. There's a lot of staff to help you find anything you need. They also have a lot of activities for the kids. I also love that they have free museum passes. I'll be taking advantage of this in the coming months as it gets warmer! read more
