The prekindergarten - third grade teachers were remarkable, exhibiting Christ-like qualities. The education she received through the third grade was stellar, through and after COVID. These teachers really cared about the social-emotional and educational needs of the students that were entrusted to their care. Even when my son said it was time to change schools I stubbornly held on. But fourth grade confirmed that it was indeed time to move on. During the first week of after-school band practice my granddaughter's instrument was taken and damaged by a student in the upper grades. I spoke to the principal Mr. Venticinque, and after watching a video of the lunchroom my granddaughter's statement was confirmed. I wish this was the only incident that took place during the fourth grade. Unfortunately, it was not. She was sitting next to a new student who stole her school supplies. The teacher said she was unaware of the incident, but the new student confirmed that she stole the supplies because she didn't have any. I still do not understand how a teacher cannot monitor a class when there are only fourteen students in the class. My granddaughter actually prayed to get the fourth grade teacher she wanted. And, unfortunately she received the teacher she prayed for. This turned out to be the reason we would leave OLS. This teacher yelled and humiliated students all year. Every day my granddaughter would come home with a different story. Even though the teacher's anger wasn't directed at my granddaughter, children shouldn't be subject to this behavior from adults. She would yell at students if they didn't wear the correct color for Dollar Dress Down Day. I couldn't understand why her anger was directed at the children when parents make the decision as to what their child will wear to school. My granddaughter came out of school very upset after sitting for a test that she studied hard for. This fourth grade teacher took points off her test because she said my granddaughter was talking. I approached the teacher and told her that my grandchild was telling a student to stop cheating off her paper. The teacher asked why my granddaughter didn't tell her. I told her that she was scared of her. She looked shocked and said she would speak to her. That conversation never took place. After this I didn't approach the teacher with my concerns for fear of retaliation against my granddaughter. When the school year was coming to an end we decided this was not the school environment my grandchild should be in. I approached the principal with our concerns regarding this teacher. He responded by saying no other parents had mentioned this to him. He also stated that this fourth grade teacher never yelled. I knew that both of these statements were not true. I told him that her parents would make the decision as to whether she would stay at OLS. My son emailed the principal, Mr. Venticinque and requested a day and time to meet with him. He didn't respond to the email until mid summer. I was a faithful volunteer at OLS for four years. I actually thought this would make a difference in how my grandchild was treated. Unfortunately, it did not. The behavior of the fourth grade teacher, delayed responses from the principal and high teacher turnover are just a few of the reasons why I would not recommend this school.

I also have arrived to this facility and have seen mainly African American children with diapers full of urine and/feces and face full of snot and etc and when asked why the child looked that way there is never a valid reason. there is lack of competency and accountability at this facility it should be closed down truthfully

This school goes from K-Grade 8 and is really small and focused on giving each student individual attention and maximizing their potential. When I graduated there were only 135 kids in the entire school and my class was made up of 15 kids. It has a synagogue on the main floor because the school rents the upper floor and basement which is where they have a gym. This is a private school without the uniforms and has lots of field trip activities and even puts on annual plays at Queens Theater in the Park. If you're in the neighborhood then this is a great place to bring your children to. The relationships you create here are extra strong and I am still friends with almost half my graduating class. P.S. It's expensive as hell though

First of all, with the amount of money you pay for tuition, the school has no nurse or a counselor on staff. If anything happens to your child they just send him or her to the principal where they give him or her a band aid and cold compress. They even made a 4-year old hold an ice-pack on her fore-head all day without a teacher's help. And may God help you if your child is a little strong-willed, they will not only treat the child as a plague, but you the parent also. I have never seen a school so intolerant as this school. Their attitude to the parent who complains is unbelievably rude. I think the worse mistake I ever made was bringing my child to this school. My child has since gone to Catholic school and is doing very well.
