I am reviewing the P&A on Parc Avenue near Laurier in Montreal. Their sandwiches are awful!! Theirs chopped chicken sandwich was pasty and the white bread soggy. It was gross plus!! Decent selection of merchandise and some great deals on cheese. They had all the essentials but prices on some items such as cereal and jam were a bit high. Some produce looked okay but the tomatoes were rotting in their packaging. Most disappointing was that we saw free lot parking on their Yelp page so we came here specifically to be able to have a place to park the car only to discover that a building has been demolished in what appears to have been the parking so now there is no parking here. Be advised- no place to park in a lot and street parking is difficult. See photos. read more

This gem, is my favourite supermarket downtown. They offer 45 min of free parking which is rare. Their fruits and vegetables are fresh and well priced. Staff is super kind and always have a smile on their face. Fantastic grocery store right in downtown Montreal, the perfect place to pick up ingredients for dinner on the way home from work. I'm not sure if it's Arab run or Greek run, because there seems to be many Mediterranean items here, they often stock up on less well-known brands and often direct from those countries, olive oil from Portugal, pure milk cream from Lebanon, smoked salmon from Norway. They also sell Ben & Jerry's ice cream at the lowest price in the city, bar none. Line-up are always crazy here but somehow you manage, very fresh vegetables and fruits, I find my fresh Greek figs for $6.99 for a box of 15 while Atwater market sells them at $1.25 EACH. Cheese, wine, meat selections are great. Bread is from Premiere Moissons. Their choices of chocolate veer towards European brands. They also offer home delivery. If you like to cook a lot at home then shop here. The fresh produce is exactly that: fresh. You'll see everyone shopping here from Concordia students to Westmount trophy wives to elderly Asian and Arab couples. While walking the aisles, keep your eyes open for bright, red signs on the shelves. They signal items which are on sale. Also a good spot is at the end of each aisle, where boxes of that week's specials are usually on display. Staff are young and friendly and helpful. This is the only supermarket I've ever gone to which has Radiohead's "Paranoid Android" or U2's "Numb" playing on the speakers while you shop instead of the usual elevator music. Dear P&A People: Please consider opening a new branch in Verdun, we're sorely lacking in great supermarkets there and you would be a perfect antidote to the food-shopping blahs there. read more

REVIEW OF THE BISTRO (on the 2nd floor) I had the "chicken masala" with rice twice at PA's bistro. Let's not kid ourselves, you can't compare this to an authentic Indian restaurant. Is it gourmet? No. But is it worth the $5.99 + tax, fast service, and convenient location? Without a doubt in my opinion. In fact it's hard to find any real food at that price nowadays. Now I would probably label it something more generic like "curry with chicken" but whatever - it says "Spécial du jour" on the receipt. A number of other dishes prepared in bulk in buffets were available as well including penne with cheese, sausages, potatoes - all can be put into the round aluminium container for a reasonable $5.99 + tax. read more

I was on LSD in here once and I had a whole MOMENT. As I perused through the natural foods section everything was good. I was in love with food. The fruit and vegetables were beautiful and the grocery store seemed full of possibilities. Even foods like cheese and bread seemed to radiate a light and energy that I could totally vibe with. I was browsing through the breads, deciding which loaf I would eat for lunch. I picked a good loaf and began to walk off when BAM there in my way were Lucky Charms for sale for $3.00. I stopped. I pondered whether I should buy the Lucky Charms or not... I would have to buy milk too... then I started paying closer attention to my feelings. I realized that the me who wanted these Lucky Charms couldn't even be called ~me~. This desire was an external force casting a spell over my consciousness. I was blinded by the possibility of putting this highly concentrated sugar designed by humans on my tongue. A powerful and unnatural super-stimulus. This was part of a larger understanding. Nature is designed to perfection around it's equilibrium state. The emergent products of nature are inherently balanced. When humans intervene in these processes and synthesize their own foods their just not going to be able to even come close to nature's effortless perfection. This is the human's natural proclivity for sanctity. To keep things clean and uncontaminated, pure. There is something to it. Of course, sanctity can be abused and forced, as in the fundamentalist Christian clergy, or the pure-breeding of dogs. But if we listen to this inborn desire for sanctity in without contaminating it with our own forcing of things, I think we may be able to enter into a powerful harmony. I decided to move back to the west coast. PA is full of well-designed products of nature and foods that will dis-regulate our body and our minds. Three stars. read more

I used to live a few blocks away from Supermarche PA and so of course, it was one of my go to grocery stores. Even when I moved, I still came to this place as they always have amazing deals and the fruit/vegetables are so fresh (because of the constant turnover). Anyways, I went back just to take a look and they have expanded! Wow, there's an upstairs now where you can order food?? CRAZY. I did end up buying two Valentina Mexican hot sauce bottles which were on sale. Anyways, always great selection of fruit, vegetables, cheese, and nuts. I have been a customer for 30+ years and still find the service at PA impeccable. There must be good customer service training. If you ask an employee for something, he will drop what he is doing to come and help ... he doesn't just point in the general directions as in most stores. The store is clean, has everything you need, the prices are good, the produce is fresh AND beautifully presented. The newer, bigger store on Parc is a delight! I love this place. Great cheese selection, lots of cured and sandwhich meats, a ton of bread and lovely produce. It is ALWAYS busy so be prepared to have a game-plan before shopping. They are a fairly small grocery store so some selections are limited (they only have one kind of coconut milk most of the time but like get over if you know?) but they are smart in choosing what to feature a large variety of. Good prices on name brand icecream, which is HUGE for a snacker like myself. Lots of vegetarian/vegan products, a large meat and fish selection. Dairy and non-dairy items are well stocked, they even have a small hot food display if you want to grab a rotisserie chicken. It is an accessible store (save for some narrow aisles) and they have very very accessible and affordable pricing on essentials such as fresh produce and grain. If you prefer a much wider selection or more hot food options, Adonis is a 3 minute walk away. read more

The PA is a small grocery store that packs a lot of punch. On the outside it doesn't look like much but it's what on the inside that counts. Their selection is very diverse and you can cook up a storm with what they sell here. They have an excellent choice of ethnic ingredients. I find that I can easily complete my shopping list here even if I'm looking for an item that may be hard to find in most grocery stores. Best part is their prices are fantastic and I'm always surprised by how cheap my grocery bill is here. Produce is generally pretty fresh here for the most part. I would say always watch out for expiration dates on things like milk and juice because they can be all over the place but I've never had a problem because I know to look for it. If you live near the PA try to avoid it around supper time during the week because that's when it seems to be the worst in terms of crowds and line ups. Weekends are busy but much more manageable. They've even got free parking for customers so you can take your car. read more

PA is definitely a great place to go and much cheaper than Mourelatos, IGA, and Provigo. Unless you have a car or the ability to get to a farm, Market (Atwater Market is wonderful), or other grocery stores like Adonis, PA is your best bet for downtown. Behind its frail exterior, it has a great selection of produce, great deals, and is sure to satisfy all, or most, of your needs. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they're always easy to spot as they're restocking supplies or running around doing something. They know their stuff and will help you with whatever you need. The only time this place, like any other place, gets frustrating is during rush hour. Avoid those, otherwise you're going to get stuck in line for what seems an eternity and you will get pushed around by shoppers that think they're stocking up for the last day on Earth. read more

Good store but horrible parking guy. We went to the place for grocery for over 15 years, suddenly the parking guy accused us over parked there for 2 hours?! We provide security camera footage from our house showing we were at home at the time he thought we parked there. Then he started mumbling we were parked over time last week, we live very close to the place approximately 5 minutes distance and we usually walk there , barely park there unless it is to grab something on the way home. The guy stormed out on us and made the baby in the car cried out so hard. NEVER GOING BACK! read more

I live about 10 minutes away by foot (or 2 minutes by car if I'm lazy) and this has been my go-to grocery store for the past 5 years, despite the fact that there are other grocery stores that are much closer. The good: - Very affordable groceries and fresh products. - Great selection of fresh veggis and fruits at very cheap prices. - Weekly specials, check out their flyers! - Great variety of homemade food, BBQ chicken, hummus, salsa, etc. - Fresh mussels, seafood, and live lobsters are available. - Amazing selection of Mediterranean food items all around, lots of cheese, etc. The not-so-good: - Very limited parking spaces if you are driving. - Can get extremely crowded in evenings and weekends. - Cashiers aren't the fastest or friendliest in the world, but they get the job done. - Rather lackluster selection of alcoholic beverages. Bottom line: A great grocery store that offers a wide range of fresh produces at very affordable prices. Great place to do your weekly grocery shopping, though if you are looking for more specific cooking or baking items, you may need to go to a bigger chain store. PA is pretty amazing but you have to understand its limitations. Extremely narrow aisles makes shopping at PA du Fort an adventure. And by "adventure" I mean shopping in a developing country. It can be very frustrating unless you shop at off-hours. Further, the type of people that PA attracts are usually spatially unaware and can be oblivious to the navigational difficulties presented by PA's small floor-plan. Along with Segal's, PA has the lowest prices on produce that you will find in the city... unfortunately, this is because it's old stock from other grocers and is expectedly a little shifty. In 2015, I have found nice red peppers for $0.99/lb and bundles of asparagus for $1.60. That is pretty crazy. They have a great cheese section with a large selection and seemingly half their stock marked down. Likewise, their meat section is quite affordable in comparison to other grocers. Though they have at least 10 ill-tempered cashiers on staff at peak hours, the lines still move fairly slowly. Pro tip: avoid lines with delivery orders, identifiable by small pastel-coloured forms being filled out and cardboard boxes with loud taping, and you will be out of there in record time. read more

MUCH better than those freaking Mourelato crooks located on Ste-Catherine, and PA Supermarche is only a couple of blocks away (west, towards Atwater). I love this store because the produce is fairly cheap, the quality is not "perfect" but then again I've never found perfect produce in all of Montreal, so I'd rather pay a quarter of the price than full. I once found strawberries 2 boxes for $4, and they were like delicious sugar bombs in my mouth. SO GOOD. The seafood section and meat section is also reasonably priced (I've shopped all over Montreal including Chinatown), and when you have SO many people going to the store, it's a sure sign it's awesome. Don't be fooled by its appearance. The food is of top quality and of the lowest prices around. read more

The supermarket is definitely not as clean as IGA or Provigo and the aisles are a lot narrower than those two, as other reviewers have mentioned. While the prices are almost always lower than other grocery stores, the quality of the produce is consistently worse - so be careful of over ripe fruits and vegetables. The prices sometimes differ by very little, so judge for yourself whether a slightly lower price is worth the potentially poor produce. The check out lines are reasonably quick, even for peak weekend hours. And there is a to-go section and organic produce section on the 2nd floor. read more

This place is great and has some great prices on fruits! Its very rare that its super expensive here, they usually have the best deals downtown. The line ups are a bit slow, but its usually because they are taking down the address of the person in front of you for delivery. Delivery is usually super quick, although once I waited over 2 hours and I live SUPER close to there. But its good to have, especially downtown, like who wants to carry around 100 bags of groceries! haha Its usually super busy so be sure to have patients when trying to get those blackberries that are on sale. Wow I couldn't believe that there was something considered cheap in Montreal! A friend brought me here instead of going to IGA or Provigo, she just wanted me to trust her, so I did. The prices are very comparable with those here at our most affordable super markets. I was able to pick up enough fresh produce and meats for a few meals int he week for about $40 which sounds about right. They also have all kinds of meat, sausages, cheeses, breads, spices, a nice middle eastern section and so on. When I live here, I hope I live close to PA! read more

I moved to Montreal to study and I lived around Guy Concordia for 7 months. PA is like a 5-minute walk from me and it became my grocery store every Saturday morning. At first I really hated how small PA is and thought, "Is this really where I'm buying my food for 7 months??" Then I visited Adonis, IGA, and even the Atwater market and here's my findings. So from Guy-Concordia station, for example - Provigo (Montreal's Loblaws, closed) is 4 minutes walk - PA is 5 minutes walk - Adonis is 8 minutes walk - IGA is 12 minutes walk - Atwater market is like 30 minutes really, really tough walk in the winter (And trust me, I am a walker even before Pokemon Go) I find the amount of time I invested to go to Adonis and IGA was NOT worth it at all. I find Montreal grocery stores in this area to be full of packaged, instant, frozen, and snacks (like chips and pop). So in Adonis and IGA, it's exactly the same as PA but bigger and with more shelves to fill. That's it. The variety of vegetables and fruits do not grow with store size. PA will meet all your needs if you're just looking for vegetables and fruits. That's the food I eat, I'm not sure about you. I was very angry at the beginning that the fruits are not consistent at PA, that's why I ventured out and explored other grocery stores. Unfortunately I found it's just the quality of foods in this area. PA will have basic fruits and vegetables, variety of eggs, milk, yogurt, cereal, dried beans, rice, flour. All the basics. For students looking for the unhealthy sodium kind of food from brands, there is Pharmaprix (aka Shoppers Drugs Mart) that's 1 minute from Guy-Concordia station. Adonis and IGA will pack popular brands that you love, including rows and rows of shelves of ice-cream, chips, instant you-name-it. Atwater market will sell the organic fruits and vegetables just like PA's upstairs. However the prices are ridiculous. I've never paid $4 per organic apple, this must be magic. Now the downside to PA is that the meats and the seafood isn't that great. The quality at IGA is a lot better. Also PA is super busy and the staff are students too, so they're all younger than me and more tired. I'm being honest, young students are always tired, they never want to do anything (like cooking). I was a student too in Montreal FYI. So my best advice is to visit in the mornings before 10:30am. The staff at this time are morning people, so they're a lot more mature in behaviour especially during Saturday mornings. Think about it. Friday nights? Not these staff. Since PA is always so busy, there is a lot of staff packing, stacking, check-outs, and CLEANING. PA is super clean and messy at the same time, but the staff will clean clean clean as people come and go. The morning staff haven't seen the sh*t from customers of the day yet, so they're super nice and will get things for you from the higher shelf. In conclusion, I hated PA when I first arrived to Montreal because I was used to Loblaws and T&T and other freaking amazing markets in Toronto. But overtime I found PA to meet all my needs compared to the other grocery stores in Montreal, so I am a happy, loyal PA customer giving my best smiles every Saturday morning. read more

This grocery store is amazing. I will list the reasons why: 1. You can find your favorite fruits and vegetables for cheap! 2. You can get so many kinds of cheeses for cheap! 3. You can get so many kinds of deli meats for cheap! This place is much better when it comes to the fresh ingredients you need to fix up an amazing meal. While they don't have as big of a variety of big name brand and dry products like the bigger stores like Provigo, they post new deals on Mondays and if you're a smart shopper and come by often, you'll find some awesome foods. The service is always really great. Just the other day i was shopping for corn and one of the workers brought in some fresh ones from the back. He personally helped me pick out the freshest and biggest ones. Definitely a great place to shop. PA is also great for finding some specialty ingredients. For example, they have a little wall near the breads with various kinds of Quinoa and Quinoa products. This made it easy for me to pick the brand and the kind I wanted. If you live near a PA, you should DEFINITELY shop here. And if you don't, it's okay too. They deliver groceries :) You can even fax in your order and they'll pick up the items and send them to you. read more

Most items are inexpensive at this place, but some prices are on the high side (Double Fruit spread it's $5.50). Still the overall bill is cheap at this place. Also, very important, a the refrigerated food near the cheese section, the smoked salmon spread is sold even when too old: they keep it even for 1 week on the shelves! I bought once when it was 4 days old and I had to throw it to the bin when I opened it at home. This item doesn't sell well, because it's expensive. Check the date on the salmon spread and don't purchase if it's more than 2 days old because then it doesn't taste fresh. Usually it should be consumed no more than 3 days after being packed. read more

No, true, it is definitely not a swanky, snobbish kind of grocery store with a focus on presentation and not on food. No, this grocery store requires one to be less concerned with presentation, but a foodie, nonetheless! The PA has an excellent selection of local and imported cheese, produce and meats at incredible prices. It is certainly worth investigating at least once!!! BTW, PA's homemade taramosalata is FABULOUS!!! Look for it by the imported cheese section of the store; you won't be disappointed! read more

I've gone to this store many different times and it's always busy! The vegetables mostly priced really well. You can find obscure sauces and hard to find ethnic foods. There's actually an interesting variety of food here despite its size. I personally love going to PA over most grocery stores. They have some amazing specials and butcher much of their own meat. You can find great deals on fresh produce, cheese and seafood. They often carry many "ethnic" ingredients as well. From huge bundles of cilantro to local cheeses for cheap, they carry anything you would need to get by on a budget.
