I got the Braised Beef noodle #2 which was perfect soup. So tasty and the noodle cooked to perfection. The cucumber salad has a great delicious sauce. It sprinkled with peanuts. My husband got the pork with red sauce noodle # 2. So tasty. The servings was big . The large can share 2 persons. The small is enough for one. Service was a wait because they cooked it after you order. The noodle is freshly made and cooked. Ambiance was ok. The table and chairs were tight due to small space. People were lined up to eat. This Asian grocery store is tucked away inside a restaurant. Once you enter you have to walk down a flight of stairs and BOOM.... There it is! I love trying different types of snacks from around the world. My boyfriend and I decided to pick up a few goodies. The Lays crab chips are crabby. If that is not your thing, stay away! My boyfriend enjoyed the steak chips the most. The store itself is large. They sell everything you need such as food, toiletries, footwear and I think I saw a few calling cards. Marché G&D is a grocery store in Montreal's Chinatown. You have to go through a restaurant called Nouilles de Lan Zhou and go downstairs to get to this grocery store, which is very weird. Like you literally enter the restaurant, walk by the front part of the restaurant where the cooks are making noodles then go down the stairs which are smack dab in the middle of the restaurant (there are stairs going down to the grocery store and an escalator going up from the grocery store, both are inside the Nouilles de Lan Zhou restaurant!). Anyway, it's a fairly big Asian grocery store. It does not have a prepared foods section nor a bakery. It just has produce, shelf stable goods and refrigerated and frozen foods. It carries this mushroom fluff that I love. It's basically dehydrated mushrooms ground up. Sounds weird, I know, but delicious sprinkled on rice, soups, and salads. Not many stores carry this product but Marché G&D does and it's only $2.49 for a small bag. Service is meh. The cashiers are not really friendly, but they aren't overtly rude, so I'm like whatever. They charge $0.10 per plastic bag, so best to bring your own reusable bags, save the environment and save some money. read more

I wanted to buy fresh fish here but it depends on the day that they get the fish delivery. The day I went, the fish tank was empty and they only had some fish on ice. Sea bream goes for just under $10/lb which is about $4-5/lb cheaper than if you go to a fish market. However, depending on the day, you may or may not get them fresh looking. If you're looking for meat for hotpot, you have a lot of rolled up slices of meat--beef, lamb or pork to choose from. The rolls make them easier to thaw and also for handling compared to the slices sold in "western" grocery stores that are stuck together. read more

Recently renovated and re-opened after the neighbouring building burned down and the shop was flooded. They did some light renovation: repainted the walls, cleaned up (good for them) and most noticeable of all, added wooden panels along their produce shelves. Looks a lot neater! They also introduced some new products, especially in the noodle aisle. Prices are still fairly cheap, and that's why G & D is my weekly shopping place for produce. But as usual, it's good to be aware of the prices elsewhere. This week, for example, pomelos were a dollar more expensive than at Provigo. read more

They sell Chinese buns, dumplings, Baozi, all kind of sauces, huge pork bones, all kinds of noodles(even the knife-cut noodles if you know what that is), all kinds of authentic traditional Chinese food like marinated duck eggs, all kinds of chinese snacks, dried food... Chinatown is one of Montreal's most interesting and distinct ethnic neighbourhoods, housing wonderful restaurants, grocery stores and shops that sell anything from lucky waving cat statues to pottery. Marché G & D is my favourite grocery store here: large, clean and a spot where you will always find something new and interesting. It provides an opportunity to do your grocery shopping and feeling as if travelling through China at the same time. Any ingredient of Chinese or Vietnamese Cuisine seems readily available, from Bok Choy to chicken feet or dumpling wrappers. Strewn into this are occasional allusions to western eating, like Wonder Bread or Nutella. But what really stands out is the selection of fresh produce (Chinese specialities next to the ordinary selection of lettuce, tomatoes, apples etc), fresh and live fish and seafood, meat, and tea. And all of that at prices rather lower than 'ordinary' grocery stores. Cheap shopping and a sense of discovering a far country in one - can't get much better than that. So be bold and try something new! You might not know how to prepare a particular ingredient, but the Internet sure does :o). read more

On the walk back home, we stopped at this place as my oldest daughter was looking for something specific, and found it here. If you never entered an asian supermarket, be ready to see things you never saw before. Me and my youngest wanted to buy asian snacks to try out. The good: Lots of varieties, even Chinese Lays chips. Good fruits and vegetables section. Lots of varieties. The bad: Awful service by cashier. Stairs going down. Expensive. Minimum $10 to use cards. Alleys very narrow. Not the most up-to-date place. You have to go through a restaurant to enter, and not easy when restaurant is packed. Location easy to miss. If you are looking for something specific, or live an experience, this place works. If not, you can always look for a bigger chain throughout the city. read more

This place is always packed with lot of people having dinner or lunch at the top in the restaurant and downstairs at the Chinese supermarket purchasing groceries. I didn't expect this place to be so huge, but it is enormous. Dropped in to have dinner with fellow research scientists who came from China to attend the conference. We all ordered different variations of noodle soup dishes. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup which was the signature chef special dish. When they served us our orders. Oh my, they are gigantic bowls with so much of soup, thick chunks of beef, noodles, cilantro and spring onions with red chillis. The soup was scrumptious ( my mouth is watering right now), I enjoyed it. Loved it and would definitely come over here with a very hungry stomach. After having a lovely meal, we all went downstairs to shop in the supermarket. The vegetables were very fresh. Several sea food, fresh fruits, Chinese snacks, bread, noodles, sauces and more. This is a to go place if you need anything of Chinese origin. Recommend this place if you want to try out the awesome beef noodles. Wow, this is the largest Asian grocery store I've been to so far! It has a full sized produce section, as well as fresh meat and fish. Most of the other grocery stores similar to this one are small, and everything is crammed in. This one felt like I was at a metro or provigo (except they actually had what I was looking for). Good selection and well organized. Also, extra points if you stop for some delicious noodles at the restaurant upstairs. read more

You have to walk through the noodle shop to take the stairs down to this market in the basement. (Can't speak for the noodles as I haven't tried them yet because there was a line and they were bustling every time I've gone by, but they look really good and sure seem to be popular.) It's a bit of a strange location. Something about the basement gave me vertigo the moment my feet touched the floor of the market, so for that reason it wasn't the most pleasant shopping experience. They have a wide variety of Asian beverages, snacks, candies (including many types of Japanese KitKat), Pocky (they have one of the better Pocky selections I've seen in the area), seasonings... The freezer was lacking items I would hope to find, though with that said they did have some less common items like salted egg yolk ice cream bar. read more

I am a regular customer here mainly for some Asian snacks and the seafood. Sometimes for the beef stomach :p I highly recommend their seafood department. Compatible prices and nice service. The fruit and vegetables can be boomers sometimes. I once bought some big white peaches in a box, very good but the other week we bought them again, they were all dry out and rotten inside but perfect outside. Such a disappointment. Marche G & D Shopping at IGA and Metro is so vanilla. Everything comes in nice clean well labeled packaging orderly arranged on shelves in brightly lit aisles with a sketchy looking security guard always nearby. Don't get me wrong, the big chains have there place, I mean they do have a great selection of canned corn and frozen pizzas. Those times when Montreal starts to seem a little bland and I want to tickle my taste buds, I walk over to Chinatown and stop in at Marché G & D. As the largest Asian grocery store downtown they stock loads of stuff from pretty much every Asian cuisine. Like so many businesses in Chinatown, they are in an odd location. Find the entrance and push aside the long strips of clear plastic dangling across the doorway. Then descend down the stairs and WHAM! cluttered aisles, questionable smells, blaring Mando-Pop, strange animal parts, seemingly random organization totally devoid of windows and lacking any cellphone signal. It's a whole different world down there. They've got everything from fresh lemon grass (great when making Thai) to frozen chicken feet (if you are in the mood). You can also find fresh soy milk made in Montreal and a tasty selection of candy from Japan. You'll also find a pretty awesome selection of fresh green leafy vegetables, many that I've never seen before and some that I might consider weeds. Prices are generally better than the elsewhere in Chinatown and they have the best selection. Unfortunately they have a loyal following so shopping after work can be nightmarish. The place has tested my patience more than once but I still love it. Without Marché G & D I'm not sure I would survive. read more

Large, well-stocked grocery store in the heart of Montreal's Chinatown. It is a bit hidden since it is located on the basement floor underneath the Noodles of Langzhou storefront. There is a large selection of fresh fruits and vegeatables and a wide array of meats - typical cuts of meat for a Chinese grocery store. This store also features many fish tanks, the first I've seen in this area, with a wide selection of fresh fish and seafood. In terms of dry goods, they are also very, very well stocked with plenty of noodles, snacks, spices, rice, and other dry goods. The aisles are a tad bit narrow and the floors near the fish and meat markets are a bit wet. Prices are average: quality of fresh produce is a bit subpar, but prices are a bit lower. Prices of dry goods are a little higher than I'm accustomed too though. read more

Marché G&D has all the things you would expect in a typical asian kitchen: Dragon Fruit, Longan, soft egg tofu and dumpling wrappers, garlic chives, mochi ice cream, chinese sausage, bok choy, gai lan, and well really I could go on, but you get the drift. (Ok one more, black sesame ice cream!) It's located on St-Laurent in the basement, and is my new close to home one-stop shop for any time I feel like creating something with ingredients that aren't typical to my local IGA. The only thing that I could ask for more... expand on the candy aisle! PS It's open on New Years Day that's a plus in my books. read more

I heard this is the best grocery store for Asian supplies and that may be the case. Decent selection of foods, but the produce is not that fresh. Prices are still cheaper than Eden, but there are several things here that are cheaper at Segal's Market, e.g. Bananas here are usually $0.79/lb and they are $0.49 at Segal's. Regardless, I will continue coming here for my vermicelli, tofu, and curry needs! read more

Service is bad. there was lineup at 2 other cashes. The third cashier was free but did not event bother telling other customers waiting in other line. Nobody knew if she was free or not... Don't trust the price labels (specially in the frozen foods) Everything is messed up. I saw a 2 for $5.00 special on tofu fish pack but it scanned at $3.29 each. The manager ( the third cashier who was available but not taking any customers...) said this was an old price and they forgot to change the labels... Have they heard about Scanner price accuracy code in Canada???? Never go back there again... read more
