We passed by late on a Saturday, and there was a huge line to get in, so we recommend coming during the early show on a weeknight - early for them is around 8-10 pm. Erykah Badu is always full of life when she graced the stage. She never seams to surprise me when she electrifies the stage with her free spirited and consistently evolving character. This multi-talented and neo-soul woman can sing and dance her heart out. I was highly impressed with her performance in Amsterdam. Paradiso is a former Dutch historical church, which was converted into a concert hall. This music venue programs a wide variety of artists from Eryka Badu, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz to Willie Nelson. The best seat in the house to me is on the balcony, where you can look down on the artist and get an amazing view over the whole floor level. Paradiso is more then just a place to see live performance. It's used for so many different functions when it comes to entertainment.

Lockers were a super convenient option for all of our coats/jackets. We started out on the first floor, but once it got crowded, we moved up to the second floor which was smaller, but less people. You can still see the DJ and first floor because it's kind of like a balcony set up. There's also a bar up here and a smoking room. I'd recommend coming here for a night out! but the crowd was a little younger.

Majestic, historic, and surprisingly inclusive. While the building looks incredibly formal, the atmosphere inside is welcoming. I've seen everything from full suits to smart-casual attire, so don't feel intimidated. I've uploaded some photos of the Grote Zaal (Main Hall), but pictures can't capture the acoustics. The sound is so crisp and 'near' that you feel every note. It's easily one of the best-sounding rooms in the world. It's right on Museumplein. Trams 2, 5, and 12 drop you almost at the door. I used the Q-Park Museumplein right across the street. It's very convenient, though I'd recommend pre-booking a spot on show nights. The Cloakroom is free and very efficient--use it so you don't have to juggle your coat in the steep seating rows! They often offer a complimentary drink during the interval (check your ticket!), which is a classy touch.

I stepped inside and thought I had stumbled into a fever dream: part Tiki bar, part neon speakeasy, part lost outpost of Trader Vic's, if Vic had moonlighted as a cyberpunk mixologist. Tiki skulls grinned beside robotic totems. A scent lingered in the air: smoky mango, lime, something herbal, something remembered. The menu was a printed passport to somewhere far from Holland. I ordered the Kraken's Breath. What came was less a drink than a rite. Rums, plural (of course), spicy mango syrup, jalapeño, lime. It was liquid memory. A sunburned dream. A blurry evening in Bora Bora, or maybe Belize. Somewhere I had never been but now missed deeply. The food came. Beef sliders. Karaage chicken. Salmon skewers. Mexican street corn. Sweet potato fries. Nothing matched and everything belonged. Like a band of misfits that somehow made perfect music. I asked our guide, Joshua, the server, prophet, and bearer of joy, who was behind all this. "Roberto," he said. "I design the cocktails, Roberto makes them." Of course he does. Can get a little crowded before the music starts, but if you get there early you can grab a seat. They have a basic hanging rack in the back (by entrance to back area) for hanging coats, etc.. Back area is the music area. Fairly small with lots of music posters and the like on the walls. Small bar area when you walk in and small stage at the back. Limited seating along the wall, but plan to stand if you want to see the band - lots of tall Dutchmen will block your view if you stay seated. You pay the cover to get to the back area. So feasibly you could stay up front and listen to the music first to see if you like it before paying the cover charge. Note: while you are not allowed to smoke indoors in restaurant and bars in Amsterdam, the bartender in the back area smoked non-stop the entire time.
