Went here for dinner tonight and had a great time. We had great food and the service was excellent. Will definitely return.

I have never had Venezuelan food before and was really wanting to try an arepa. We came for dinner on a Friday night and ordered from the menu. I ordered an arepa and my companion, wanting taquitos, ordered golden tacos (which are fried like taquitos.) The tacos came with rice (which was cold so she didn't eat it) and black beans, and some lettuce and cheese on top as a garnish. The arepa was by itself and small, although it tasted great especially the plantains. The two dishes were very close in price and I assumed it was a dinner plate but no. I doubt there was much more than 2 ounces of meat in the arepa. read more

The food here is delicious. Sometimes, getting the food takes a bit long, but the food is delicious and the staff is very friendly.

Two down and two to go. Eating my way through the Venezuelan and Colombian restaurants in Pittsburgh has been fun so far. It's a nice break if you want to try something in between Argentina and Mexico in Pitt. Pabellon takes over from Bea Taco, but maintains the familiar Mexican menu to increase its appeal. The restaurant is run by Venezuelans and features a very extensive arepa selection. The arepas were crunchy on the outside and well proportioned. This is the right way to make an arepa! The Catira and Pabellon were excellent. If you have never tried cheese sticks from Venezuela, try the tequenos. Their vegetarian options are limited, but ok for lunch. Service was slow but friendly. I will be back to try their other Venezuelan staples. read more

An unpretentious place right on 19 South. Plenty of parking. Serving both Venezuelan and Mexican food. Try the shredded beef empanadas. Yum. I enjoyed the a dinner plate called Pabellon Criollo with shredded beef, black beans and rice and fried plantains. It included a couple baby sized arepas (fried breads). Ask for a side of crema/sour cream. We took slices of beautiful tres leches cake and flan for later. Waiter was super friendly and made good recommendations. There was a steady stream of customers dining in and taking out. A good sign that they are developing a strong following. read more

I absolutely adore Pabellón! My partner and I go here often and enjoy the food as well as interior decor and relaxed environment.

The arepas, a traditional Venezuelan dish, are wonderful. I suggest trying one with the sweet plantains. The savory and sweet combo is delicious. One heads up, the kitchen is pretty slow. So our first taste of Venezuelan food in PGH. I love the plantains with the Pabellon dish. The empanada is made with masa, unlike the flour that I am used to. The ingredients are allowed to exude its flavor because it is lightly salted. It has a Mexican menu which we will try next time. read more

Great first impressions! I went a few weeks back, before they had the Pabellon sign up, and before it had appeared yet on Yelp. Even so, I noted how much cleaner and welcoming the place was with the new ownership--Bea's had really declined in both respects over time. I believe I was interacting with one of the new owners, who was super friendly and seemed excited himself to be starting up the restaurant and exposing us to Venezuelan food. Speaking of....haven't yet tried the arepas--which weren't yet on the menu at that point--but the tacos were very promising. I ordered three. Echoing some of the other reviewers, the tacozuela was my clear favorite, and make me excited to try some of the Venezuelan options when I go back. Also had carnitas and al pastor tacos, and both were solid. For both of these other two tacos, they included rice and beans on the taco, which seems a carryover from Bea's. I've eaten at many many taquerias in Arizona, California, and Mexico, and Bea's was the first to include rice and beans as a default addition to all tacos. Seemed like a way to bulk the tacos up, but the actual meat topping tends to get lost, so I'm not a fan of this approach. That said, all the components on the tacos were fresh and tasty! Looking forward to my next visit to Pabellon, especially now that the Venezuelan menu is up and running! read more

I had 2 traditional tacos (ground beef), chips and salsa, a side of guacamole, and the Jarritos fruit punch soda. Everything was delicious!!! LOVED the traditional tacos. Chips were served warm and were great. The salsa is a mild salsa, but so good! We ordered a side of fried plantains and they were so yummy!! We will definitely be back!! This is the SECOND time now that I've tried to order delivery from this restaurant and the estimated time was 20 minutes and it turned into TWO HOURS. this place really needs to quit using thirds party delivery if they plan to keep customers. Amazing and affordable. Highly rec any of the arepas and criollo. Good BYOB place and extremely friendly owner. If there are any fellow celiacs out there, very celiac-friendly. Dedicated fryers for anything with corn. Really hope this place sticks around, was pretty empty the 3-4 times I have been. This restaurant is phenomenal. My husband and I tried it for the first time last night. We placed a take out order and when we got home we realized they left out a few very minor items (a sauce and a side of plantains). We called to ask about it, thinking about maybe driving back and picking it up, they were very apologetic and also incredibly swamped with orders, so we decided to just forget about it. Despite the few missing items, the food was delicious. Earlier today the restaurant called to apologize again and asked for our address to send us something. I thought they might send a coupon or something but they actually delivered more food to our doorstep! I was blown away. Totally unnecessary but so kind. I ordered through Grub Hub. I became hooked on Bea Taco town and was devastated when they closed. Pabellon filled the void in my taco-deprived tummy. The pork taco was simple and yet one of the most delicious tacos I've ever had. I prefer simple, slow-roasted lean meats with just enough flavor to complement but not overpower the meat. This taco delivered exactly that. And the Tacozuela is something you have just gotta try. Sweet, juicy plantains atop beef, black beans, guac, and queso fresco. It's new, so hopefully my first order from Pabellon can help you make the decision to give it a try. read more

Typical Venezuelan food at exorbitant prices. They won't take payment at the table. You must pay at their counter prior to leaving. They open at 11 am and close at 8pm. They lost our business as we were a group of 11 and arrived at 8:30 to find it was closed. Restrooms need immediate remodeling, they are 100 years old and ugly! I haven't had arepas since I lived in Tampa but would visit my cousin in Lauderdale and we would hit up the arepa truck after a night of drinking at all the bars. These are fantastic. I ordered 3 different ones and all were incredible. The empanadas were great too as well as fried plantains and of course rice and beans. Next time I will flip the menu over and try the Mexican food too. My step dad is Mexican so I'll check back with another review after we try the Mexican side and see if as legit as the Venezuelan side. Love it. Oh and the owner is super cool and friendly. This would be a great place to have cater a party with a bunch of empanadas and arepas with some beans rice and plantains on the side. read more

I'm far from an expert on international cuisine, but I like to try new foods. Pabellon was a really great experience. I have had Venezuelan food before, empanadas, arepas etc. and am familiar with the tastes. The menu is double-sided with the Mexican dishes on the flip side (next time) I had the Pabellon deluxe(?) with a beautiful assortment of shredded beef, white cheese, scrambled eggs & fried plantains. It would be difficult to decide what I liked best. Also had a seafood empanada, excellent, and chips with queso, very fresh and delicious! Definitely going back soon to try the Mexican dishes. Server was very nice and helpful. An all-around excellent and tasty meal. read more

Great food and great flavors. Like the emphasis on Venezuelan cuisine, although the standard Mexican fare is here as well.

While the decor isn't much, the food more than makes up for it. Fresh, hot food, and a variety I haven't found anywhere else in Pittsburgh. My kids were literally licking their plates clean. It has become our go-to place to eat, even though it lacks a kids menu. We order a single taco each, but since it comes with two corn tortillas, I split it into two tacos--easier for small hands and the kids are full from that (and the chips and queso we order as an appetizer). I haven't seen arepas anywhere else in the Burgh, and it's a shame, these are so delicious. As I said, no decor, but I don't care, as long as the food is good. read more

The food and service is excellent but the seating is uncomfortable. We tried some different empanadas and burritos and agreed all were very fresh and tasted great! Highly recommend the food! The dining room is large and tables are spaced out well, but the tables and chairs are uncomfortable. Support bars under the tables smack you in the knees and the chairs have a very small surface, so unless you're a kid or weigh 100 pounds, they're not the best for comfort. Food is incredible and the service is top notch. We originally ordered from Grubhub and they struggled to get us the food in a timely fashion due to a lack of drivers. Fabulous!! Picked up for cinco de Mayo take out and they were only a few min behind despite the phone ringing off the hook and constant online orders coming through not to mention they were not fully staffed so I give them a ton of credit. Happy they are getting so much business- guy taking care of me (I believe the owner) was apologizing for wait(seriously it was less than 10 min behind) and super friendly seems like an authentic family business. I got red enchiladas with beef which were awesome and my fiancé had a grilled chicken quesadilla which we both believed to be better than Totopo. Found this place on maps because it was the closest Mexican restaurant and I was totally impressed. We picked it up and I wish I would have taken pictures. Everything was packaged in a way that kept it warm on the way home. The arepa were to die for, but what really stuck out to me was the empanada - delicious! The queso was a great addition to our meal as well. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for Mexican food that's unique! read more

Hands down the best South American cuisine in the south hills. Great quantity and the quality of everything speaks for itself. My whole party tried different plates and we got an appetizer sampler and every single item was tasty on everyone's plate. We would take pictures, but cleaned our plates too fast! This was my family and my first time at this restaurant and it was amazing! My kids immediately commented on the quality in customer service and how friendly and inviting the server was. The outside is quaint and you could easily miss it driving by, but the i side is clean and well decorated. The food was INCREDIBLE... full of flavor. It felt like a home-cooked meal. We ordered a chicken empanada, two arepas (reina pepiada & sifrina), two orders of taqueños (the best cheese sticks we've ever had!), a chimichanga, and enchiladas. Everything was a 10/10!
