Pace Academy - I remember taking my little sister here a few times a week over a few summers for SAT tutoring. I would say that this place is better viewed as a baby sitting center with a splash of academic focus. My little sister's SAT scores only improved 5% over the course of each summer which i can hardly call an increase. If you're serious about SAT tutoring, go to infinity test prep... it cost about 10 times more but the gains are real. read more

I think these tutoring centers have to do with the teachers, of course. And the students you're with. It's all about the people, right? I went to about five different tutoring centers and I think this would be in my top two. One I liked because I actually studied, but out of fear since the guy would cuss us out and keep us "grounded" unless we aced his tests. I guess fear does work to a certain extent, but do you want to live that way? I don't and I don't want to raise others in that way either. There's tons of studies on this but anyhows... You really just take a bunch of tests at this center, which you can do on your own (though it's harder to do the self-study method). But this place seemed home-y, it had a kitchen where my fellow peers and I would bring our fast food lunches after school and just hang out. Everything was such a chill atmosphere, but we didn't take advantage of it. We did our work, had some fun, chatted up with the young teachers, etc. What I learned from this place was that I am not the best test taker. She figured out that I knew all the material, I just sucked at taking standardized tests. After figuring that out it was all good, just like how figuring out the root of a problem helps you gain a solution (or at least a different strategy to tackling it). Anyhows, it's been a million years since I've been here, so it's probably changed, though old habits die hard right? All those other tutoring centers still just reuse old tests and grill their students. I'd work here if I was in the area. read more

Regarding high school tutoring at PACE, the tutors are top notch. Tim (History/English), Adrianna (Math), John (Physics), and John Park (Biology) are true experts at their subjects and are very nice approachable people. Pace has an excellent Oxford Prep program--I can safely say the best--out of all the local academies in Cypress. But though it is probably best known for its Oxford Prep program, its other tutoring services do not lack anything. After being enrolled in Oxford Prep and subsequently being accepted into Oxford Academy, I came back to Pace a few times in high school for help in various subjects such as calculus and English. My math teachers did not simply assist me with my homework but guided me in learning chapters ahead. This helped me to be prepared in advance for quizzes and tests and develop study habits. Whenever I wrote an essay for English class, Tim was always willing to look over multiple drafts of it to see where I could improve it. He also made sure I understood the books I was reading on a deeper level by helping me analyze the literary texts to see the overarching themes. One thing that stands out to me about Pace in comparison to other afterschools/tutoring centers is its atmosphere. I got to know most of the teachers on a name-by-name basis for they all are very friendly. The principal is not only very nice but also very professional and experienced as she has led the academy for over 15 years. Also, because many students at Pace see its benefits and so attend for multiple years, you see many familiar faces, overall adding to the homely vibe. Pace is a place I definitely recommend; it was a place where I built up academic knowledge and friendship, a place I don't regret attending. read more

Pace Academy is an excellent environment for students to pursue their studies. It is especially convenient as its school program allows students to work on their schoolwork and relearn any concepts that they may have missed earlier. Its high school program is tailored to each individual so that they complete their homework and prepare for tests, including the SAT and AP tests. I hate Pace. They make students do Pace work before homework, won't let you read, and won't let you do Aleks. I would never choose to send anybody here, even my worst enemy! I highly advise going to Ace Academy, which is better because the teachers will help you, and after you finish your homework you can do their work. There is also break in the parking lot at Pace, and at Ace there is break in the back, where it is safe. I would not recommend this horrible place at all. read more

I am very happy with Pace Academy. They provided excellent communication and professional attitude about my questions. The staff was beyond helpful and upon meeting my kid, the staff gave special attention and was able to provide exactly what he needed for preparing for his placement test. As soon as I addressed specific concerns for my son, they were able to go above and beyond in prepping him accordingly. Highly recommend! Pace Academy provides a well established environment that allows the students to focus on their individual academic goals. They provide well selected tutors in variety of subjects who are very helpful, and with well organized programs such as the SAT prep as well as the Oxford Academy prep classes, it really is one of the best tutor places to send your kids for additional help for their schoolwork in Orange County. I personally have been a student at Pace Academy for a very long time and I can personally attest to their abilities to help and reinforce areas of academia that each students are struggling with. With that said, you have to keep in mind the students have to be motivated to seek out the help. I see few really low rated reviews with complaints that their time here simply wasn't worth it. I'm not going to point fingers at anyone, but in my experience, they provide very extensive and organized resources, and on top of that, very motivated and knowledgeable group of staff who will get you the help you need. Oh, Pace... The lazy summer dog days of my youth were instead replaced with intensive SAT tutoring at Pace Academy. I don't know about the credentials of the tutors, or the proven effectiveness of tutoring... My SAT scores were still pretty tragic, to be honest. They should really do a before-and-after study with their enrolled students, complete with charts and graphs. I'm sure all the helicopter/tiger/whatever-you-call-it Asian parents would be all over that. read more

Glorified babysitter. "Academy" it is not. It should be called "PACE Tutoring Center" or something more applicable. It's really just a place where kids do homework and are then required to do supplemental work afterwards. They also have SAT and other standardized test prep. The experience the kids get greatly depends on the person they get to work with, and there are some really great people there. It's a great place to have kids do homework and to get any needed help. That being said, the Korean lady who runs the place mistreats the kids. (I've heard stories of hitting.) She also treats the employees like crap. I've seen her verbally humiliate her employees in front of the students in the most condescending way possible. That's not an effective way get better productivity out of anyone (students or employees). Not to mention it's demoralizing, and it undermines any sort of authority that the tutors/teachers are supposed to have over the kids. The guy who works with the older middle/high school kids constantly doles out the verbal abuse. With either of them it is never about a positive learning experience. They only care about test scores, and they like to get results through fear. If your'e looking for individual tutoring, it's way overpriced. You're much better off paying a private tutor to come to your house. You'll wind up paying the tutor less for more, and they'll get paid more. Realistically, if you need a place to send your kids, you're much better off at a place like the Boys and Girls Club. They would have a much more positive experience. Not to mention they treat their employees better. read more

Pace is just NOT the place to learn, study, or ever be taught at. So this summer my very close friend came from Korea with her younger sister and enrolled at Pace to learn English. In a week, they hated it and wanted OUT. Pace's environment is just horrible. It is always too loud to concentrate, and the teachers aren't even helpful because there's like 30 students in one class. She paid for 4 hours a day, but only got twenty minutes of DIRECTIONS, and the rest of the time, she just did packets she could have been doing at home. My friend and her younger sister asked the manager for a refund, but the lady YELLED AT THEM. She couldn't believe it. The manager only let my friend get a return but not the younger one. My friend then went to Perfect Score Academy to get REAL help. If you go to Pace, I guarantee that you will regret it! read more
