Circling back to discuss the "lack of rigor" from another poster. I am a public school educator. Many of the teachers here previously taught in the public school system, such as one who taught for 20 years in LAUSD. The rigor is there. The staff emails all the time and answers emails quickly without needing to set up appointments--that's a HUGE difference than public school. What GCS does better than public schools is give grace--late work is accepted, retesting is often offered, and more. The funny thing is, this is an equity issue that many public districts are just now doing--LBUSD and LAUSD both offer these now. GCS has been doing this for YEARS because it's part of the praxis of Christianity--if you can have a second chance, they'll give it to you. So thankful to be part of the GCS community. I never thought we'd be private school people, but Covid changed that. Now I see the huge difference between public and private education--and I teach in a public school. read more

It is shocking to me that Mrs. Summers still works at this school and really disheartening to read the other review about her. I am a grown adult now and can look back and see the ways that some teachers really take advantage of the fact that children do not have the capabilities to defend themselves. I remember many instances of abusive language and outright racism towards me (one of the only Asian students in a primarily white classroom.) I remember an extremely problematic comparison of Asians to Jews when explaining why "people didn't like Jews." I remember her calling me the dumbest smart person she had ever met and treating me like my successes mattered less than the ones of my white classmates. I remember her yelling in class, and I remember her making me cry many times. I am a teacher myself now and am horrified that this was ever allowed. I am horrified that she still works there. People like this should not be allowed to be around children. I hope she finds a different line of work. read more

We chose Grace Christian School initially because we weren't crazy about the public elementary school we were assigned to. We decided to seek a private school. I originally had my heart set on another private school, but went to check GCS just to appease a relative. Honestly, I was LOOKING for something to NOT like because I wanted to have my argument ready for why "my" school was better than GCS. But I could not find anything to dislike about the school. The ladies in the front office and the director of enrollment are so incredibly nice and helpful. The classrooms were amazing, the computer lab blew me away. It did not take long for us to decide this would be our school. My daughter has been there for about a month now, and I am continually impressed with the school, the campus, and the staff. The entire staff loves and cares for these kids SO much, and makes them their absolute top priority. (I'm blown away by how many different staff members know who my Kindergartener is! When I was in Kindergarten, only 1 teacher knew who I was!) The principal, Dr. Pettinger is very personable and is always very visible and interactive with the kids and parents. Also, he is obsessed with making sure that the school is safe and well prepared for any emergencies. His kids are all grown and work in law enforcement. Several of the students here have parents who work in law enforcement. (They joke that they have more law enforcement personnel than Cypress Police Department!) The teachers are trained in CPR, First Aid, AED, and are (or are working on being) 100% CERT certified (Community Emergency Response Team). They are SO prepared for the El Niño season we are expecting. Other schools are asking to see their notes so they can strive to be just as prepared! I can rest assured if an earthquake or El Niño hits while my daughter is at school, she will be well taken care of...probably more so than we are at the house! If you choose Grace Christian School (and are lucky enough that they have room!), I promise you will not be disappointed. Check their website...it's very well done. They keep parents very well informed both by weekly emailed newsletters as well as flyers that come home with my child. There is so much genuine warmth and heart at this school too. It breaks my heart that we are scheduled to eventually move out of the area and won't be able to keep her here through 8th grade. read more

It took a lot to right this review, as a matter of fact it's taken an entire year. I could have gone about things differently, but long story short I pulled my son from this school last year in the middle of third grade while he was in Mrs. Summers room. Rather than trying to rectify the situation, it caused so much damage to my son that I pulled him and stated finances were the reason, when truly it was not, as I felt it would be simpler than trying to switch my son into a different class or cause him to feel more uncomfortable than he already did. I never intended to even write a review, but the comments my son mentioned to me today urged me to do so. (Yes an entire year later) Mrs. Summers was very condescending to the students and my son felt very belittled by her throughout his time in her class. There were moments he cried, and developed a severe nail biting habit because he dreaded going to school. It was on more than one occasion where I would pick him up and he would be crying as soon as he got into the car because of a homework assignment she indicated he didn't turn in, which many times she was wrong, because I would have the paper and keep them, or the sarcastic comments, we did meet to discuss these issues, but never did I feel she truly cared. Another instance when my son fell and hurt himself and I picked him up to a bloody knee with no phone call and him being told by her that "he's fine", when I picked him up i followed up and office staff agreed the teacher should have contacted me (this was a last breaking point for us, there were many other concerns, but this is to name a few) point blank ... as a child he did not feel welcomed in her class and it became a daily struggle to get him to school. This evening, as we watch movies dedicated to Easter my son tells me just because we are baptized does not mean we are going to heaven. That he can go to hell and that he's scared of going to hell. Then he proceeds to tell me his third grade teacher stated he can go to hell and baptism doesn't mean anything, that he should be scared to do wrong, because heaven is not a guarantee. My son is now a 4th grader at a different school, the fact that he even brought this conversation up, enrages me to the point where I felt the need to write this post. First of all, I do not agree with that concept, never would I want my child to operate out of fear, but rather of encouragement to be a child of God. I know I am NOT the only parent who said their child felt this way about this particular teacher, because during that time many expressed the same sentiment. Do I regret not speaking up and silently pulling my child from this school? Absolutely! But, after tonight, I feel it would be a disservice to my family to allow his experience to go unheard and after hearing my child tell me this with such fear, I felt inclined to share our personal experience. I do also want to be fair and indicate the following: the principal was wonderful and safety of the children on campus was priority. My son had Mrs. Mason and Mrs. Oswald during his 1st and 2nd grade year, they both were phenomenal and I can truly say our family adored them both. My son continues to talk about his favorite teacher being Mrs. Oswald! I wish his 3rd grade year went differently, but he is happy, thriving and feels very much loved by his teachers at his new school. read more

I went here from 2-5 grade and as I noticed in 5th grade the text books were from year 2000 or below. The history book was behind by 2 presidents before Obama. read more

Do you desire for your children to want to go to school? Well that is exactly what we got when we enrolled our 3 boys into the school. From the office staff to the teachers to the kitchen staff and playground attendants they are all wonderful! This is their ministry and they are serving God well! How awesome is it that your child could stay at the same school from preschool all the way up to 8th grade! What a blessing it is to be apart of this school family. We have a child attending, now starting the 6th year. We have been very happy and thankful for GCS thus far. Our experiences with teachers, the staff and the leadership have all been positive. I read the name Mrs. Summers in the negative reviews, and I don't even know who that is (so perhaps, she no longer teaches there). I have some experience with a local public school, and it is so nice to attend GCS. Even simple things like a kindergartener being able to play on the playground before school, or the efficiency of "car line" when dropping off and picking up your child make life so much nicer. At pick up, the teachers open the car door for the child to enter (parent/caregiver displays visor on rear-view mirror to confirm authorization for pick-up). On short days once or twice a month, day-care is provided until 3:15PM for no additional charge. Spanish language is part of the curriculum, even if it is not a rigorous subject until junior high. Unfortunately, and without explanation, in 2022-23 Spanish instruction "disappeared" along with the teachers who left (for unknown reasons). Chapel is held weekly, and classes present at chapel once a school year. Parents have opportunities to volunteer their time and be involved. My only complaint all these years is that the class size increased after COVID, in order to accommodate more children whose parents were disheartened by the public schools I imagine (and probably because it's more $$ for the school). Though safety measures were very satisfying, the increase in class size definitely was not. I wish classes would never go above 24, for the sake of quality education et al, at least not without an assigned teacher assistant. read more

I am a public school teacher myself- teacher & staff at Grace do an exceptional job. My daughter & son both LOVE their school & teachers! Our family has had a wonderful experience being apart of this "family"!! I would highly recommend this school program to anyone considering a private Christian school...
